That bluetooth update is needed enough for docked decks which have only gradually gotten the support we need. There's still some interface nitpicks I have over things that can only be navigated reasonably on touch screen via the game mode. Mostly browsing for game news, game store page & review pages.
All these portables push the specs of the hardware. They never mention the horrible software that it runs. It’s like owning an M chip iPad Pro but it can’t utilize the hardware to the best of its ability because the software bottle necks it.

Just buy a Gaming PC with a AMD GPU (RX6700 is like a PS5) install bazzite. And you're done. Heck even mini PCs with AMDs ryzen 5 8600G are possible with this.
The ability to save the past few minutes of gameplay will be great. Sometimes I do some stuff that are insane for my skill level that I wish that I had recorded it.
HDMI CEC - If your TV has a "quick start" or "fast boot" feature, turn it off. This has sorted HDMI sync issue for me. You may have to access an engineer/hidden menu to achieve this. Hope this helps.

Great news!! This is one of the features that needs to be in place before SteamOS can be released to PCs. The out of the box experience has to be better than Windows if Valve wants to succeed.
Steam machines are a pretty cool idea, but I'm already have a pc, laptop, tablet, and deck, so I won't be interested in buying it at least for the next decade... if it's not something mega-groundbreaking 😅

Decky Recorder has been a great help for getting Deck clips, but it has been rife with problems here and there since its inception. The recent issue I've had is that if Replay Mode is enabled and you then go into Desktop Mode, it can result in a black screen and usually, you can't do anything except to restart the unit. Disabling it fixes it, thankfully. An official solution by Valve means less issues, an easier method of dealing with clip management, and sharing directly to social media (+ exporting to PC) will be pretty handy.
Thank you for this comment. I had no idea why my Deck kept getting stuck on a black screen almost every time I went into Desktop Mode. I never would have linked it to Decky Recorder. It's a feature I almost never use on the Deck, but I do go into Desktop Mode quite often and it was driving me crazy, so I think I'll disable it.

A Linux based Steam console PC hybrid would definitely be something I'm interested in. I'm so sick of Windows and Valve has a great opportunity to give Linux another huge push. There are some things I would want from a Steam console. 1st of all it has to be good value again like the Steam Deck was. 2nd it has to do gaming and productivity, the PC platform was always good for both and that's what's special. It's why there is modding on PC and art and writing and video creators etc. Steam can't lose that, and if a Steam console becomes the cheapest and easiest way to get into PC gaming then we need that to stay part of the ecosystem.

I have an OLED and an LCD Deck and the latest SteamOS update completely removed Decky Loader. I know it was having a ton of problems with the previous update but it seems like my LCD was just fed up with it lol.
Decky is the problem and not SteamOS. Decky writes into SteamOS immutable filesystem and when Steam updates it expects no changes to that system which was supposed to be read-only. Decky does a poor job (ie doesn’t deal at all) with updates. This means the user needs to disable/uninstall Decky before updating the os to ensure 100% no issues. Decky devs need to address this. They keep perpetuating this issue and never educate its userbase about why this happens. Its awful TBH.
Valve has said they intend on building out an operating system again similar to what the old steam machines had so its likely further testing on this that were seeing with the HDMI CEC implementations.
I'd buy a SteamMachine as long as it took ~100W at most (preferred 50-60W) 1080p target is ok to me or High-settings 720p target. 200W+ for current consoles is absurd to me, and that's the reason I have not bought a PS5 (+stupid soldered SSD). I can't wait for Nintendo to announce the details about the Switch's successor - I hope the power consumption will be within Switch's parameters.

How long you can record into the past doesn't really have much to do with how powerful a device is, it's just how much storage do you want to reserve for it. As for a steam box for the tv, I won't buy it myself... I already have a powerful PC that I could use on the TV (actually I have an HDMI cable running to it already but I only use it to watch F1 with multiple streams at once). I also have an Xbox series x... But I find I don't enjoy playing on my tv that much these days. If I wanna play on the couch I'd rather use my steam deck, and otherwise I play at my desk.

To me it always screams lack of confidence in their own game I'm always happy to see more "exclusives" coming to Steam. This is where all my games are at. I've had my collection since 2012. I would most likey buy a Steam home console. I dont have a gaming pc other than the SD, and I'd like a "cheap" option to play Steam games I've accumulated on a more graphically capable machine. Plus, I don't think it would require a sub to play online multiplayer which would be awesome!
We need a 4K spec steam machine so that development on a current console device can be future proofed for implementing it as a handheld later. It would be nice to work out the optimization kinks as a console and transfer that knowledge towards a handheld with cheaper manufacturing as surplus chipsets are developed. Imagine getting a $400 handheld in 2 years that plays everything that comes out like gta6 (assuming it’ll be on pc) but can be plugged into a tv for 4K games with decent frame rates. Then you wouldn’t have to work out the kinks with tdp in the beginning and suffer terrible unplayable games. You could slowly trim the fat with optimization until they can slap it into a handheld with the added benefit of years of support from valve and the community instead of starting out with an all new device.
Regarding the Zotac Zone; while probably useful for the suggested brightness and volume I feel like those jog wheels at the base of the thumbsticks are intended as an alternative to using a stick or the trackpads for things like rudder control like on some of the old Microsoft flight sticks. If not that then they're probably meant as a nicer way to move through menu options like the jogwheel on some iPods-add some clicks via a haptic motor and honestly I'd be sold on that. I mean it would honestly make most RPGs that much faster to navigate.
The only issue with this is battery life. With it being so optimized as it is, adding more onto the load would only make the battery drain faster. If they can make it integrated within steamOS to where it's very minutely in the background, there may be a chance...
Steam Console also needs to replace a Fire Stick or Chromecast to compete, so Valve eventually needs an out of the box solution for setting up Netflix, Hulu, and so on without tinkering. A console should also aim to be the only thing you want to boot up for anything.
A steam machine with the power of a series x to pair with my steam deck is exactly what i want. enough power to play my games at high settings at either 60fps to 120fps without having to mess around with hardware. Advantages of a console and advantages of steam all in one. Then i can stream to my steam deck or just play natively on my steam deck. This is my dream

Im 100% interested in a steam home console, my pc makes my room way too hot. It would be nice to have a smaller box that uses less power and generates less heat.
1) who gives a ... about gameplay recording aside from streamers. 2) I was waiting for GoW Ragnarok to wishlist it and buy. seeing PSN needed for single player game is big NO for me. 3) still waiting for option to have downloaded games for my SD card without needing internet connection and huge game/cache update load when switching my SD cards... not even 3rd party scripts working for offline play with SD switching.
It's not like recording or streaming long-form gameplay with OBS, like he said it's for making short clips like on other game consoles. The sort of thing average joes do to remember something cool they did in-game and rewatch/share it later. Maybe you found a glitch or got an impressive kill, that sort of thing.
No offence to this guy but being able to record a game on the deck is wayyyyyyy down the list of critical things the deck needs. This guy is on a podcast with others and it’s awful they don’t do research and just are so far off the mark it’s awful.
Downloading in sleep mode is not currently possible with x86 architecture. That would require ARM architecture which is currently not a good option for running PC games.
It's critical all right, it's critical for me to understand how to disable it :) Nothing is for free, this feature eats resources and erodes your SSD faster. I'm pretty sure the occasional bragging rights it gives you is not worth it.
Being able to see battery remaining on connected devices would be huge (as my PS5 controller has died during gaming on more than one occasion!). I am running the beta client and looked under Bluetooth settings but don't see any new options to allow the viewing of battery level for those devices. I am assuming that missing option is why I don't see the level of the attached devices in the quick access menu either. Maybe I am just not seeing it or looking in the wrong place but wonder if anyone else has found this new option?
recording to disk all the time takes up battery and constantly writing to storage wears it down over time. I'd shut it off for ~5hr flights along with turning on airplane mode.

IDK about a console, but I'd straight purchase a new SteamOS Desktop Edition. Screw Windows.

Im 100% interested in a steam home console, my pc makes my room way too hot. It would be nice to have a smaller box that uses less power and generates less heat.

1) who gives a ... about gameplay recording aside from streamers.
2) I was waiting for GoW Ragnarok to wishlist it and buy. seeing PSN needed for single player game is big NO for me.
3) still waiting for option to have downloaded games for my SD card without needing internet connection and huge game/cache update load when switching my SD cards... not even 3rd party scripts working for offline play with SD switching.
It's not like recording or streaming long-form gameplay with OBS, like he said it's for making short clips like on other game consoles. The sort of thing average joes do to remember something cool they did in-game and rewatch/share it later. Maybe you found a glitch or got an impressive kill, that sort of thing.

No offence to this guy but being able to record a game on the deck is wayyyyyyy down the list of critical things the deck needs. This guy is on a podcast with others and it’s awful they don’t do research and just are so far off the mark it’s awful.

Downloading in sleep mode is not currently possible with x86 architecture. That would require ARM architecture which is currently not a good option for running PC games.

It's critical all right, it's critical for me to understand how to disable it :) Nothing is for free, this feature eats resources and erodes your SSD faster. I'm pretty sure the occasional bragging rights it gives you is not worth it.

Being able to see battery remaining on connected devices would be huge (as my PS5 controller has died during gaming on more than one occasion!). I am running the beta client and looked under Bluetooth settings but don't see any new options to allow the viewing of battery level for those devices. I am assuming that missing option is why I don't see the level of the attached devices in the quick access menu either. Maybe I am just not seeing it or looking in the wrong place but wonder if anyone else has found this new option?
recording to disk all the time takes up battery and constantly writing to storage wears it down over time. I'd shut it off for ~5hr flights along with turning on airplane mode.
