    Hans could be a grandson of Ariel and Eric. He looks similar to Eric and has red hair not to mention he comes from a huge family like Ariel. Which would explain the the 70 year gap in the timeline between the 2 movies.
    Also Eric was just chilling out on the sea. He was supposed to fall for the princess of glowerhaven but didn't. But I'm completely infatuated with your theory too!

      That's right! Frozen and The Little Mermaid were based on stories written by the same person! It would make sense for them to be set in similar places amd times. (Depending on the writer's style.)

      it doesn't really work because of how the characters pronunced the name Anna ..the "A" sounds like an O sound. It's "Onna" So Hans Christan Onna-Sven.. So unless they pronunced Anderson's "A" as Ondersen

      Karla Pinkie I love this and I really wish it could happen.. but with the locations and links between all thses movies, comes a rather important peice of (widely concidered - close to being) 'cannon' information. I am of course referring to the ship at the beginning of the little mermaid.
      (The info I'm using is from the creators of the respective movies)
      While Ariel explors the sunken ship (believed to be the sunken ship of Anna and Elsa's perants) she is placed at 16 years old, while Eric is, shortly after, celebrating his 18th birthday (then fire, Ariel save him, yadda, yadda, yadda). These ages are very important! (And cannon from the creators).
      Now over to Frozen.. When the King and Queen or Arendale die, it is confirmed that Elsa is 18 and Anna is 15. It is 3 years later when the Events of Frozen take place. And what is the confirmed age of Hans at this point? 23!.
      The earliest the little mermaid could take place (with the ship) is 3 years before Frozen.. but 3 years before Frozen.. Hans would be 20... but.. he couldn't be the youngest then.. as Eric is 18.. therefore, proving this incorrect.
      Yes, I know the whole 'Ariel explores the sunken ship of the King and Queen of Arendale' thing isn't cannon... but one of the big reasons so many fans place The little mermaid in Denmark.. is because it would make sence for the King and Queen to go to a wedding of a princess accross the Sea in Germany (from Norway).. so the ship could have easily sunken in Denmark.
      I appreciate it a lot if anyone reads this.
      If I've gotten anything wrong, then please correct me.. or let me know if you agree with my findings.

    I was convinced you were going to say that Eric's brother is prince charming from Cinderella, since the king attends to Eric's and Ursula's wedding. And it would make sense for the father to go to his son's wedding instead of the king of a nearby country, specially in such sort notice. But I love your theory too!

    Since that Rapunzel is German, Snow White is also confirmed to be Germany in the 19th century. Does that mean Snow White a. Was a ruler of Corona and/or b. Rapunzel's ancestor?
    The same could be said for Belle and Cinderella (More likely her prince) since their both french and the prince also been pictured with brown hair and brown eyes?

    I did something a while back. I estimated when exactly each Disney Princess lived and what country they lived in. Snow White in the mid-western Holy Roman Empire, Cinderella in Alsace/Lorraine, Sleeping Beauty in France, ect. But one Disney Princess that really gave me a headache was Ariel. Most people believe that her story takes place on the coast of Denmark and others believe that it takes place in one of the Mediterranean countries. It's half and half. I used to believe that The Little Mermaid took place in Denmark. One, because the original tale was written by Hans Christian Anderson. Two, Eric's name has Nordic roots, and three, the dress Ariel wears when's she's touring the kingdom looks like a "watered down" (for a lack of better words) version of a traditional Danish dress. But, other than that, that was all the evidence I had. Now, I strongly believe that her story takes place somewhere in the Mediterranean and not Denmark.
    For one, the geography. Eric's kingdom is portrayed as very mountainous. Last I checked, Denmark is very flat, aside from a few cliffs. Eric's castle was intended to look Mediterranean, and I have proof. In the filmmakers' commentary, John Musker and Ron Clements said they wanted to give Eric's kingdom a Mediterranean look: “That exterior of the palace Roland Wilson designed...uh, he was a great draftsman, he designed the prince's palace. He did a drawing that we loved that combined these sort of Mediterranean elements, uh, made it a palace unlike any other sort of Disney fairy tale palace, and uh, with the white-washed stucco, and was really going for a warm, southern Mediterranean feel that he thought would be attractive to a mermaid who had been stuck all her life in the cold ocean.” John Musker (45:31-45:53)
    Ariel's story is for sure set in a Mediterranean country. The fish that are seen in the movie are very vibrant in color and closely resemble the marine life in the Mediterranean sea. But, what country is The Little Mermaid set in? I would think Spain in the 1830's. Her story could honestly fit any Mediterranean country, really, but The Little Mermaid certainly doesn't take place in Denmark, sadly.

    I personally think Hans is related to the two thieves in Tangled Eugene used to do business with. I mean all three of them are redheads, and as Hans told Anna, his brothers were mean to him, and those guys don't seem like the type of people you would want to mess with.

  • @AlashiaTuol
    @AlashiaTuol 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I think Eric was the firstborn or secondborn prince. Because even though Eric seems so sheltered and unimportant, he _is_ king by the sequel, which means he must've inherited anyways. Also, in the Disney musical stage adaptation, Grimsby begs Eric to return to shore, "fulfill [his] father's dying wish, and take up his crown" (to which Eric replies that that's not the life for him).
    I think it's possible Eric tried to excuse himself from being in line for the throne, but something happened and he ended up King anyways. Of course, this implies something major must've happened politically with the Royal family, if a family member that dissociated themself politically had to step in and rule. Some kind of incident or scandal involving the majority of the other heirs.

      Actually correct me if I'm wrong but Ariel was queen in sequel so Eric would be king, also I don't think hans and Eric are related the southern isles could mean the islands in the Mediterranean sea because some people called it the southern seas making the islands the southern isles, plus if hans and Eric are related then who are the other 9 princes? I'm not sure if I'm right but that's my theory on one of my favorite Disney movies the little mermaid. I love Ariel and Eric so much!!!

  • @mollybirdgrace9955
    @mollybirdgrace9955 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    That's a really cool theory.
    A year or so ago when doing backstory for a fanfiction I actually theorized myself based on some different factors that it was actually set in Monaco starting with the warm, Mediterranean location and the really diverse array of fish that would make more sense in someplace like the Mediterranean or nearby than up in the seas around Scandinavia. Plus two factors concerning the rule of Monaco --- one, that wouldn't require Eric to ever be king, because Monaco is ruled by a Prince, and two, it would explain his lack of importance because the Prince of Monaco rules over one city region, not a very large country, and I believe at the time of the Ariel movie (I went by a clothing and architecture analysis I can't find the link to right now...) Monaco was nominally under the control of France, meaning the Prince of Monaco was nothing more than a symbolic/ceremonial role.
    But your theory makes a whole lot of sense too! Man, now I want to write a parallel story where Eric has Hans as his whiny baby brother! You can bet he'd never stand for Hans' behavior in Arendelle.

    • @mollybirdgrace9955
      @mollybirdgrace9955 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Niikkii yeah, but that didn't mean Disney's had to be. The original Princess and the Frog was German. New Orleans is definitely not Germany. Besides, I still stand by the fact that there are a lot of tropical fish for the cold northern seas, even if Fangirl's theory does make a lot of sense from a different perspective.

    It never crossed my mind as a kid that Erik’s father or even his mother were never around although I did use to kind of wonder why his life style was not as traditional as other forms of royalty in other fairytales. However as I got older I came to the assumption that both of his parents were dead and that the reason why he wasn’t showing any interest in getting married or becoming king was because he was just being a careless who didn’t want to succumb to his responsibilities. This is supported in the Broadway musical in which Grimsby tells Eric in the opening musical number that he wants him to fulfill his fathers dying wish of taking the throne. Also in the little mermaid 2 it is likely to assume that both Eric and Ariel are king and queen of this area they rule over but I guess it’s easy to assume that both the play and the sequel are not canon.

    We know exactly when The Little Mermaid happens. In The Little Mermaid tv-series (s2 episode 8 "Metal Fish"), 15-year-old Ariel meets H.C. Andersen and this meeting inspire the author to make a fairy tale about a mermaid. This must have happened before 1836 when Andersen wrote his famous fairy tale Den Lille Havfrue.

    Due to the little mermaid being published in 1836, and the big sleeves Ariel wears, the movie must take place in the 1830’s. Also the map in Frozen Fever is dated to 1860, and it takes place a year after Frozen.

    Excellent video.
    Very good work on the placement of the countries.
    We know that Frozen and Tangled have an official connection, since Rapunzel is seen meeting Anna just before Elsa's coronation.
    My theory is that Corona was the last port of call for their parents' ship before it sank at sea.
    I always assumed that the river leading out of Arendelle Harbor is a sealane that eventually reaches Corona.

    If you want a set date for The Little Mermaid, it gets even harder. The painting in Ariel's grotto when she sings questioning the burning of fire during "Part of Your World" is the painting by French artist Georges de la Tour and is titled "Magdalen with the Smoking Flame". It was painted circa 1640. But after the artist died his works were forgotten until 1915. The painting currently resides in the Louvre in Paris France. The question how did the painting in the Little Mermaid end up with Ariel? It's also clear that the painting is still in good condition and has not been in the water long for the oil paint to start dissolving. Which means the painting was purchased before the painters death in 1652 and sunk with the ship transporting it. Meaning the Little Mermaid takes place much earlier then Frozen did. In fact if you take Moana in to account where Sebastian the crab is mentioned, it's possible that the take place very close to each other.

    • @Eszra
      @Eszra 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem with this theory is that Hans' brothers are all named in the Frozen novelization. It's entirely possible that TLM takes place a generation before or after Frozen, and Eric could be an uncle or nephew of Hans. He certainly is not Hans' father. For starters, he's not cruel and vindictive. And, as you said, Eric's land is a principality, not a kingdom, which is what indicates that Eric is not the crown prince.

    in poor unfortunate souls, ursula says the words 'come winds of the Caspian Sea!' so that has always lead me to believe that Atlantica is there. and Eric's seaside kingdom is on the coast. the main kingdom could be another place as during the wedding we catch a glimpse at two people who resemble The King in Cinderlla & the guy he was always yelling at (the one with the single eye glass, cant remember what thats called lol.). but the difference between the person we see at the wedding and the King in Cinderella is that the person we see is older. perhaps its likely that Eric is the brother of Prince Edward "Prince Charming" from Cinderella?

    • @rvawildcardwolf2843

      Cousin is more likely. The prince in Cinderella is an only child according to that movie. But the king's wife according to Cinderella 3 was a redhead he met at a beach, so maybe one of Eric's parents had a sister who married that king. A nautically inclined redhead as a positive experience/memory could also have skewed Eric's tastes a bit, at the risk of seeming freudian.

    What about the amazing tropical sealife a hop, skip, and a plunge away? Could Eric's kingdom be in the Caribbean? That would explain Sebastian... Or maybe colorful coral and fish are just prettier than sand and rocks lol Or maybe Triton's power keeps it a tropical climate even in waters off Scandinavia.

    I don't think the friendly Prince Eric is one of the evil Prince Hans' 12 older brothers, but, if Noah Schnapp, who is very handsome with short black hair, plays Prince Eric, who isn't an evil character like Prince Hans, in the live-action/CGI remake of "The Little Mermaid", it would be as if Disney brought Charlie Brown and the little red-haired girl together, if Francesca Angelucci Capaldi, who has long red hair and a beautiful voice, plays Ariel, that is!

    Fun fact. We can see a large painting of Princess Aurora and Prince Philip on the wall of Eric's Castle. Has relatives been confirmed? And if we look closely, we see the King and Grand Duke from the Cinderella are guests at the wedding of Eric and Vanessa. Are Prince Charming and Eric brothers or cousins? Something like that could at least be imagined.
    From the TV series we know that Little Mermaid happens sometimes after 1837. Ariel is one of the few Disney characters who have met their own creator. Ariel met Hans Christian Andersen, face to face. Somewhere Anna, Elsa and Rapunzel running around at the same time (And in map of Arendelle we see the Roman numbers MDCCCXL which means 1840). Did Ursula possibly kill the parents of Anna and Elsa? Maybe, we'll see the storm in both.
    And where is the Gloverhaven harbor from which Eric was sailing back to home with the statue? Is Glowerhaven Amsterdam?
    P.S. The fan-made chronology has include some others mistakes, such as Tarzan, who was born in 1889 and is the second other Disney character who met his creator E.R. Burroughs in the TV series before 1912.

  • @drl16
    @drl16 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    That does seem to fit. Elsa and Anna's parents' ship sinks and the popular Disney Conspiracy theory is that Ariel visits that very ship AND at the end of the Little Mermaid, Eric uses that same ship to kill Ursula. Now another Conspiracy is that Eric's castle is like, "a summer castle" but within serious reach of the main castle, at the wedding scene it looks like the King and the Duke from Cinderella show up. There's literally a video on the Little Mermaid/Cinderella crossover but you get it. Disney is by no means simple when it comes to its movies, heck I even found a scene where The Evil Queen might just be alive, happily "Chillin' Like a Villain" (yes pun intended) in Halloween Town from Nightmare Before Christmas. So overall I think your over thinking is right on the money.

      Yes I remember hearing this theory but I don't think it's Areil, maybe Areil and Eric had another child or it could be Areil grandkid. Becuase I remember in Cinderella 3 that the King mentions that his wife gave him a shell and how he treasures that gift also the kingdom in Cinderella isn't near any ocean or sea ( At least from what I saw) so I think that Areil's descendent married the king and the shell came from the beach in the Little Mermaid (I might just be imaging or saw it wrong but in Cinderella 3 we see the Queen and she had red hair)

  • @rvawildcardwolf2843

    This had been my fan theory since Frozen came out.
    I'd also like to state the idea that Eric's uniforms are Naval, as he's a seafaring guy, while Han's would be dress uniforms of the Army, so there's that difference.
    And we have to consider that Ariel's dinner dress was probably brought out of storage from a previous noblewoman of the castle (A cousin or sister nobody bothered to talk about) so it's fashion being off or outdated could be expected.

    Alternate idea to Eric being Hans's older brother, he could be the son of one of the older brothers that already got married and had kids (we don't know the age differences of the siblings -- in my own family, the age gap between the oldest and youngest of my dad's kids is 18 years, plenty of time for me to have an older niece or nephew now that my younger sister is in her 20s). If Little Mermaid comes a few years after Frozen (if you believe the sunken ship Ariel explores is the ship that Elsa's parents were on), then in this time Eric could grow up and be old enough to marry Ariel.

    It's been confirmed that that Little Mermaid is in Denmark as that's where the writer is from.
    But I don't think they are brother. It's more likely that Hans is brothers with the two thefts from tangled. As they look a lot more alike.
    I think Eric could be related to Cinderella's Prince Charming as they look more alike.

      Taylor Edwards while she has made a lot of assumptions with this theory, it is still possible that Eric became king. The heir(or heir depending on how many brothers were ahead of him) could have died, been found unfit to rule, or advocated the throne for the their own reasons. The little mermaid 2 takes place at least a decade after the original and a lot can happen. If a couple of the brothers became the thieves from Rapenzel like one theory suggests, they could been seen as unfit to rule. Others brothers could give up the throne due to joining the church, romance (being gay, love with a divorcee, love with someone of low status, etc) or maybe not feeling up to the challenge. This theory relays heavily on all Disney animated films being connected and that the locations are based on a real world map. I don't think either has been confirmed so this theory probably isn't true. Actually, I don't think we ever see any family members on Eric's side and with 13 brothers there would be a picture or something. Based on what I have seen about Eric, he probably wouldn't be the brother to pretend you don't exist unless you really made him mad and then he would probably confront you.

    I kind of have an idea for a theory. I watched the nightmare before Christmas yesterday and noticed something. When jack holds the town meeting to talk about Christmas, Sally looks apprehensive. She is supposed to be the most level headed Halloween-ite, but she wouldn't have any reason to know about Christmas town so why would jacks idea of Christmas bother her so much? I also wonder why she's so much more put together (pun) than everyone else in Halloween town.

    I love this theory and I really wish it could happen.. but with the locations and links between all thses movies, comes a rather important peice of (widely concidered - close to being) 'cannon' information.
    If I've gotten anything wrong, then please correct me.. or let me know if you agree with my findings.

      infinityrose92 Eric being Greek is a really cool idea. He could certainly have the look, as do several of the townspeople. It also goes along with the fanon of Ariel and Hercules being related, since Atlantica doesn’t seem to be too incredibly far from the shore. But yeah, you’re absolutely right about the architecture and environment. I always just assumed that it’s supposed to be Denmark, given the source material, but this makes way more sense.

    I like this theory but frozen takes place (as i believe) in the late 1830s/ early 1840s due to the overall technology in the film but in the little mermaid, during the scene where the birds are stalling the wedding you can catch a brief frame of the king and his brown haired friend( i cant for the life of me remember his name) from cinderella which takes place in the 1890s due to the fashion and technology also, so unless there is at least a 30 year sibling age gap between hans and eric i dont think this theory works

    It's Denmark...it takes place in Denmark.
    Believe me, I wracked my brain trying to do this very same thing, when I tried to either confirm or bust the possibility of Agnar and Aduna being Tarzan's parents, by tying the burning ship in Tarzan to being Eric's ship in Little Mermaid...needless to say, completely busted.
    The problem is, while it busts the Tarzan Parentage Theory, Denmark is the opt location for the events of Little Mermaid taking place as it's effectively partway between Arendelle and Corona - the locations of Frozen and Tangled; so while it's not possible that Ma and Pa Frozen are Ma and Pa Tarzan, it's plausible that their ship is the same ship that Ariel finds in her movie.

    Let's broaden the idea of the Disney Princess family tree.
    So Eric and Hans are brothers, and Anna and Elsa are sisters. When Anna and Elsa's parents get an a shipwreck, there's been a theory that they were washed up in the jungles of Africa. They then had a son named Tarzan. Since they were on their way to a family member's wedding, there's also been a theory that they were going to Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder's wedding. Since the king and queen were going to a cousin's wedding, that can only mean that Rapunzel is Anna and Elsa's cousin.
    Crazy
