The last time I tackled Beauty and the Beast, I got a lot of complaints for claiming that Belle's romantic connection happened way too fast. I'm here today, with evidence, to show that this love appeared at a break-neck speed.

I'm afraid you need to watch the film again. We clearly see Maurice back at the house, filling up with supplies and determined to go rescue Belle. Just after he's left, Gaston also shows up but finds the home empty. So he orders Lefou to watch over the house until Belle and Maurice get home. I think you're right about the Beast's castle being half a day or so away but Maurice didn't fully know where it was as he found it when originally lost and he might not have been able to take note of where he was travelling when in the carriage.
It's hard to say how long Maurice was searching for Belle but it's possible he came across other villages or lonely houses while looking for Belle. Bad weather could at times have forced him to take shelter for several days at a time and after what happened in his own village when trying to get help, he might have just stayed silent whenever he encountered other people. So Belle could potentially have been at the Beast's castle for a few weeks before Maurice finally becomes completely lost in the woods after becoming more desperate to find her.
Not exactly. We see him go home for all his maps, a lamp and absolutely no coat. He would have been ill within 48 hours. The woods he turned Phillipe away from were bare, even the birds were singing, they do that when migrating or hunkering down for the winter. He wore a cape/cloak when he left or the fair, and if history serves, they were traditionally held during harvest months. With there being no food, wine or water taken, he most definitely did not have supplies.
I would like to point out even the people who created the film think of Belle as being there much longer than a few days. It was actually a running joke among the staff of how long was Maurice lost. To the point that there was a drawing of Maurice at the pyramids looking for Belle.
Where did you see or hear this thing about the pyramids? Hahah, I would love to see/hear that. I haven't seen the movie's special features or anything though, so was this on the especialmente features from the DVD or some interview somewhere? Cheers
And then Selena came along and said no that was fake what she saw in the mirror which makes sense because the next time we see him he's still in town which doesn't make sense if he was out there so it actually makes more sense to be fake but also this series also fixes the age problem the original had with the cuss by making the beast is probably at least a teenager in this book when it comes to the flashback moments and plus the only reason why he was cursed and this book was because the enchantress who was actually in love with him tried to prove to her sisters that he loved her but she found out he only cared about her because of her beauty so she cursed him and the transformation took time to happen to be fair the books might not be Canon but since they were intentionally made his prequels to the movies and have stuff from the movies happen in them I considered thame Canon but I also consider the fact that these books contradict the Disney sequels but the only Disney thing that takes place after this does not contradicted that actually explain something from that series and makes it makes sense is descendants because of princess Aurora being maleficent's first daughter which is something we Lund in this series and no she didn't do it the way we expect no she just she was never pregnant she just use magic to create a baby and the reason why I just make sense is it explains why Aurora's daughter Audrey is able to use maleficent scepter in descendants 3 to be fair I don't know if Serena actually attentionally did this but it feels like she did this on purpose and plus it makes sense as Canon but I also leaves Tangled the series in a weird spot but that's a part point for another day summarize we don't know how long belle was in the castle for if you consider the Disney villain series as Canon
Okay. Sorry Fangirl I have to point this out.
Belle’s father did ‘go’ home after being booted out of the bar. (Just before Library scene and after Wolf scene between Belle and Beast.) He stuffs his belongings into his pants pocket. Gaston goes to this Aslemen guy to pick up Belle’s father intending to lock him up. Gaston arrives and leaves with Aslemen carriage. He leaves his sidekick behind and that’s why Gaston’s sidekick is a snowman in front of Belle’s father’s cottage.

Thank you; I was thinking the same thing. So it's possible that he did pack something that would maybe, at least have him hold out for a few days. But since we know how incompetent he is with directions he probably got himself lost again. Meaning Belle could of been staying at the beast's castle for about a week before she rescues him. Granted it's still not that much time; but it's still more that what Fangirl originally described.
That's true. Lafu becoming a snowman is meant to show that time went by.
I always thought that time went at different rate near the castle. 'cus of the "ten long years" thing, and that the season is noticeably different, and that the Prince's picture isn't of an 11 year old, and that Bell's farther is there long enough to get deadly sick in one day from Bell's perspective. So it could that's moths for her and the rest of the castle, but not for her dad.

As I said on the last video a lot of the details only really make sense if time moves differently. There's also no guarantee that Belle wasn't expecting her father to be gone for weeks. It could have been a 3 or 4 day journey when he got lost in the woods. The weather in that town was extremely strange. The start of the movie shows late fall with the end being winter.
Not to mention that in the extended scenes in the DVD, You have the "Human Again" sequence where the servants spruce up the castle for Belle and the Beast's upcoming date. With the clearing of snow and planting of flowers I would place that scene around early Spring.
So, Belle leaves to find her father around late Autumn, if you also take into consideration Belle's Enchanted Christmas she's clearly there through, at minimum, Christmas, and at the end of the original movie you have early Spring.
This, in my mind, only cements the theory that times flows differently in the castle and likely the grounds as well, making Belle's stay with the Beast somewhere along the lines of 4 months, instead of the 4-6 days of Maurice's timeline.
I always assumed Belle was there around a month (4 weeks), based on my experience on french weather while I was staying there. While I was there, the weather changed surprisingly quickly, I was there at December and I experienced bright sunny days, heavy rain and snow (Also the first time I saw it) in the course of two weeks. And my second time going, it was September and we only had bright warm days and heavy rain and wind. Based on these, I thought Belle started about start to mid December and broke the spell about January. With Maurice eating wild vegetables.

We only see him go searching for Belle then him collapsing. We don't see him as we remained focused on Belle. We don't see his search at all.

Morice did go back home before walking into the woods. But he only grabbed like, a map and a scarf, or something. Then Gaston showed up at the empty house, and left Lafoo their to stay and watch. But that changes nothing with your theory.

Corny Hale i whole-heartedly agree. I consider myself a feminist and I don't need a man to validate me, but I enjoy romance and lately I feel like Disney is straying from their roots, trying to remove the romance arc all together so that the new females can be "more empowered" which I feel is so counterproductive. I remember when Anna got such crap for ending up with kristoff. Ariel gets crap for going after Eric even though he wasn't the sole reason Ariel wanted to be human; her father pushed her over the edge when he destroyed her treasures. cinderella was emotionally abused and all she wanted was to escape her life for a night-- never did she seek out or even know she was dancing with a Prince. and my baby belle fell in love without looking for it. none of the princesses should be faulted for being a reflection of the era they were made in so people should stop over analysizing stuff when it makes them miss the real point of the movie

I always thought Belle was at the castle for a few months and I thought she arrived very late November or December and the ending took place in March or April because of the sequel it shows she was in the castle over Christmas and at the very end there was a deleted line in the beauty and the beast finale sung by Mrs Potts (it was actually used in the 2017 remake) where she sings “winter turns to spring” and spring usually starts in March/April time so I always assumed she was there for the good part of 3 or 4 months! Your theory makes so much more sense though because Maurice couldn’t have been in the woods for months hahahaha!

I don’t agree with the comment about Belle being boy crazy in the video. She wasn’t boy crazy, she fell in love with the beasts like minded and appreciative personality. If she had been boy crazy her and Gaston would have gotten married and she’d have kids with him by day four or five. However, he wasn’t her type by any means. Boy crazy usually means going for any beautiful guy that crosses your path and her being a well read head strong girl, she would never marry Gaston or be with him in anyway.
Personally, I still standby my theory that it was over the course of months with the scene with Belle and the Beast in the snow being over the course of the winter (I've been to France, so I know the weather can change drastically there. But it's nowhere near the level of short term change as Florida where it changes in a matter of hours, going from hot and sunny to being a hurricane in the span of 20 minutes. For it to go from fall to winter and back again, it would have to take a month, at the very _least_ . ), but I think it's one of those things that's open to interpretation. Let's face it. Accuracy to real life isn't a priority for the writers, so they could hand wave things in order to focus on other parts of the story. What I think happened is that the writers left it vague and up for people to decide for themselves in order to make the relationship between Belle and Adam more believable without putting a whole lot of effort into that part of the story.
But Belle is wearing the same dress throughout all of Something There. That's what leads me to believe that it all takes place on the same day.
In the original fairy tale, part of the curse is that the castle grounds are split between summer and winter.
The stained glass of the castle alludes to this.
When Belle walks out of the house, it shows it is spring time.
When the mob is still in the village, it looks to be a stormy, spring night.
The trees behind the singing mob are still barren. When Chip looks outside at Maurice's machine, the grass, though darkened by the night, appears to be a vibrant green. As if it is still spring.
Wait.. who is Adam?
It was spring at the beginning of the movie you can tell because the flowers are blooming and flowers outside near or in winter flowers wilt

3:04 - yep. That was pretty scary when I was a child. In my mind it somehow combined with the imagery of "Treasure Planet" (I watched both movies within a week) and that mix was the source of my nightmares for quite a while...
That carriage was so creepy that I immediately forgot it during the movie and remembered it when you mentioned it. It has been around seven or eight years since I forgot it.

I figured Belle wasn’t there for a very short time.
At the start of the movie all the leaves are still on the trees. The leaves are all red so it starts in autumn. When Maurice is traveling through the forest you see there are very few leaves left on the trees.when it cuts back to belle in the village it's autumn again. By the time Maurice is taken back to the village its winter.

Yes that's true but she should not be considering the live action remake because of the fact that technically speaking only one thing from the remake is kind of Canon to the original and that's kind of the enchantress thing but it's also different in the beast within book that in the live remake so why I'm saying is the ending of the book The beast within is where the enchantress who turns out to be someone who was in love with the beast until he broke her heart came up to the castle and bought the beast back to life which means she is not responsible for reversing the curse she wanted it to happen for sure we see that throughout the book that she doesn't like his sisters wanting to kill belle or the beast and also when he was cursed also contradicts though live action remake so technically the book is actually the thing she should be referring to not the live action remake
There is also a the thoery that time at castle moves faster than time outside. One of the factors in this is actually how Morice because so sick of it had only been a day since he had been in the castle.

The answer is simple. The film starts off near the end of autumn, then goes to winter by the time her father got to the Tavern. He then goes off searching for her and it is the end of winter by the time the Mob head to the castle.

Yes I agree she was there for a short time but belles father did go back to the cottage since you have to pass the cottage to go to the woods. He grabbed a few supplies before taking off but he didn’t pack a lot of things. I would say he may have spent a few hours at the cottage to but regardless it would only affect it by a day or so

Anni Mikkola why would it not be canon? The princesses and characters at any Disney park or resort will respond to questions about their sequels as if it were canon. You can ask Ariel about melody her daughter and she will gladly tell you about being a mom. You can ask belle in person about her Christmas sequel and she will tell you anything you want to know while wearing her Christmas dress from the sequel.. So if the princesses themselves are required the act if sequels are canon why wouldn't they be?

Anni Mikkola I did and I have watched all the movies several times. On top of that my boyfriend who works closely with belle and the other princesses at the magic kingdom are told by the managers and higher ups that run the Walt Disney corporation that the sequels are canon. I would like to know where it is written in stone that sequels are not canon. I can see certain sequels to certain movies not being canon like Atlantis the lost empire. But what about Pocahontas , Aladdin and and Cinderella?
Tommy Seay people are going to talk to the actors about sequel-related stuff anyway, so they have to play along, they can't be like "wtf are you talking about, I have no daughter". It's not like Enchanted Christmas counts when we are talking about the original BatB:s timeline.

Please consider the enchanted Christmas movie of Beauty and the Beast so Belle was there for quite some time I feel like the timeline got mixed up when her father goes looking for her. he may have lost his supplies because it does show him back at home getting supplies, right before Gaston shows up with the Dr to take him away. Aurice must but must have run out of supplies and got lost again
I do see your point but you missed 1 detail. Belle's father does go home to get supplies. (Maps and a lantern) at that point, he could have collected a loaf of bread and some water we as the viewer just don't see it. Also, I believe the time in the village flows slower than at the castle. I made it to the end. I would love more theories on the dark crystal.
Maurice Did have supplies because it shows Gaston coming to find him Right after he leaves. Then Gaston tells Lafou to stay till "Belle and her father come home" and then Lafou becomes a snowman lol

While 1991 BaTB is my absolute favorite film, I have to say the lack of created plot holes in all versions of the source material is really nice. Not even sure they would really count as plot holes as just vague time frames for pre Belle time period. It's quite fascinating to see what authors come up with, really.

On the scene that bell is in the snow throwing snow balls it is winter but when she saves the beast there is no snow. Also I doubt that it stopped snowing because during the whole movie it was snowing on the castles end of the land. So I don't think it just stopped snowing magically.
I had a ton of snow about two weeks ago. Two days later it was 50 degrees with no trace of snow. Weather is weird.
Lafou being posted at the house I think means he couldn't have been there more than a day. If he leaves and comes back, he wouldn't be a snowman, and if he was staying there too long he would be dead.
Does that mean the movie was set in winter because of ‘Something There’

To be fair. Most Rom-Com films have the couple fall in love in a matter of days as well and some get married asap. So its not a disney phenomenon...

Belle's father does pack things, which pushes the timeline at least up to a couple of days further. And maybe your last comment about Belle was a bit cruel? Other than that, Her father is rather easily angered, which is what he goes on. I'd rather say, that the time he spent in the carriage gave him time to go through many different emotions, which then leads him to be hasty, when he finally makes it to the inn, when noone seems to react, he then starts to panic. You might think this is a short time for him to swap emotions, but he changes emotions just as quickly, when Belle convinces him to try again in one of the first scenes, when he then talks about her trip into town, when Gaston says that they'll help him out, and finally when he then goes from dispair to determination the second he gets home, which can't be very ar from his home, as we also see in the first song "Belle", when she goes through town to swap her book for a new one.. :)

The castle is enchanted so.... time goes faster in the outside world than it does there ? Even if the beast was a normal handsome human guy you can't fall in love in only a few days. Not enough to break the spell. She rejects Gaston so it makes no sense.
Crazy girl if you had watched the animated film alittle more closely you would know he did indeed go home and get supplies we see that part right before we see the scene with Belle and the beast feeding birds together which speaks to the fact that he had run through his supplies before Belle saw him in the mirror... I also find it odd that since the movie has him blatantly state that the beast loves belle any thinking person would think rather than have her take her father back to the village once he sent her to help him the beast would have suggested to her to bring her father to the castle to recover and mend. And then if they wished to go back have them go back to the village that was the only problem I saw in both movies when he released her rather than trying to get her to bring her father back to the castle to make up for his earlier cruelty thus hastening the ending of the spell he sent her to get her father and return to the village which caused most of the problems for both Belle and the Beast
The live-action film does fix some of the plot-holes the original created, but like the musical, they aren't fixed entirely. Despite what I previously said when I praised the musical, it is considered a separate canon and the same goes for this movie. Both are remakes in their own respect and should be handled differently.

However, when a girl finding a passion in fairy tales literature took a opportunity to live a twisted prince experience, she'll never hesitate to invest in this love to know more about herself.
