- Carnsalloch Chapel on The Mount was built for the Johnstone family of Carnsalloch in the 1850s, the architect being Edward Buckton Lamb, a Gothic revivalist. The last burial in the crypt was circa 1957 and the house was sold to Leonard Cheshire Homes, remaining as a home until circa 2000. It was briefly in use as a school.
Fantastic Roger 👍👍👍👍
Sad neglect
So sad to see these type of historical buildings going to ruins.
Yes - and so many of them.
Thank you for this video. I am a direct descendent of the family coming in from the states to do some genealogy when I ran across this. It's solved a mystery as to the exact location of my father's family's remains. Do you have Facebook or another way we might private message for further conversation?
You can email me at rgriffithk@aol.com.
Hi Maisie, is this true about this being your family? There's a channel on here that explores abandoned places and they've actually went down the hole to the graves and have filmed them :( you can see the bones etc it's really not right
There's still people in the Crypt
Parts of them anyway
Requires a bit of TLC Roger
I am tempted to cut down some trees, etc :-)
A day's work with a chainsaw, basic tools and some herbicide would at least pause the gradual destruction of this bit of our history and heritage. But nobody cares enough.
@@ianfraser8347 I wonder if Kirkton has an active community group of some sort. It doesn't look like it as the community notice board has items from over a year back.
They un subbed me from you
