Wow! This is truly so eerie, yet beautiful at the same time! The green path and trees are stunning as you make your way to the old chapel. Amazing it is dating back to the 400s, wow. The chapel is so picturesque, and does give you the vibe of being watched. Such an old graveyard there too. The music you paired this footage with is perfect! The old stones with the inscriptions are incredible, wow. Amazing how old they are. I can see why you felt uneasy, and the raven sounds would certainly add to the eerie paranormal presence. Hi Ms Kayak, those ravens/crow noises were actually recorded while there! The place did creep me out a bit and I tried to narrate it as such. The building is completely original and from the late 1800s. There used to be another church and/or monastery there and hence the finding of the old stones. Did you see the face? This was a very peaceful place, perhaps a bit too peaceful. When those ravens/crows started sounding off it made me feel uneasy. I did have the sudden urge to run but resisted. Show no fear 😂Having said that I'm glad I only read about the haunted stories after my visit

This place is pretty ancient in terms of a place of worship and burial grounds so who knows what lurks there. I didn't hang around too much longer after that even tho it was somewhat hermit friendly. My family holiday was at Sandhead caravan park in the summer of 1981 and we visited this place in the evening. I was 16 at the time and it has always stuck in my memory. It was very peaceful and tranquil and it was a nice summer evening; in fact, just like your video here. But as the sun slowly set and the sky became tinged with red, and some colder wind came in from the sea, the atmosphere changed. Crows or ravens coming back to roost for the night. After a while here, you get a sense that you have "overstayed your welcome". My dad looked around and then said "Ok...let's get back to the car now". Later in the week, an old lady at the village pub said we should not go there and should not go back. It's a strange place. Yes, a lot of people report a sense of being watched. One of the stones reads in Latin: ‘Here lie the holy and chief priests, Ides, Viventius and Mavorius’ so it seems these 'high priests' were buried around here a very long time ago. Another stone apparantly alludes to the Book of Revelations, which of course is a scary part of the Bible. One of the inscriptions INITIUM ET FINIS, translates to "The beginning and the end".
That is an interesting story and I did actually feel uneasy after a time there. I thought it was the crows/ravens making their noise. I was glad I read the haunted stories after the fact or I may have not contained the urge to run. I certainly shall be in no hurry to return I have to admit. Thank you for the story and cementing the idea that I shall not make a return visit.
@@TheHikingHermit You should return:) Did you notice that some of the gravestones have skulls and crossbones on them? This was common on grave stones from the 18-19th century as a reminder of mortality. These symbols were part of a concept called "Memento Mori," which translates into "Remember that you will die." It was a reminder to the living visiting the graveyard that they too will die, and therefore you should live the best life that you can while you still can. In your video at around 2.06, the inscription on that grave reads:"Long days and nights he bore great pain, physicians tried but all in vain, then God in his wisdom thought it best, to end his pain and give him rest". I always remembered that and it unsettled me at the time. Whoever it was, they had already been in the ground for 140-160 years before I visited on that June night in 1981. It's either that grave or the one next to it, or one along that row. It may be weathered away now but if anyone visits they can look out for it. It is probably still readable.
@@sdm7372 I was a little unnerved on my visit. I have to admit I didn't look at the grave stones in detail but it seems I may have been missing out. Also I noticed on my video but didn't see it at the time what looks like a face and a hand on the grave stone at around 1:50 It's a spooky place that's for sure
@@TheHikingHermit Yikes--what is that on the gravestone at 1.50?! Saw it on your other vid as well. It looks like some demonic face and hand. That was definitely not there in 1981. I can say that for a fact. Maybe it is weathering or some joker painted it. Either way it is seriously creepy.

Well I was OK until the ravens/crows started up and then it was creepy. At that point I did start to feel uneasy. I'm glad I only read afterwards that the place is supposed to be haunted. Thanks for watching 👍🙂

Hi Ms Kayak, those ravens/crow noises were actually recorded while there! The place did creep me out a bit and I tried to narrate it as such. The building is completely original and from the late 1800s. There used to be another church and/or monastery there and hence the finding of the old stones. Did you see the face? This was a very peaceful place, perhaps a bit too peaceful. When those ravens/crows started sounding off it made me feel uneasy. I did have the sudden urge to run but resisted. Show no fear 😂Having said that I'm glad I only read about the haunted stories after my visit

The Christian history here is so old and the chapel is in a beautiful location and you had lovely weather, it would definitely have been scarier on a dull day 😃 Fabulous to see some of the oldest memorials in Scotland. Hi Anna, I did get a bit uneasy when the birds started. This place has probably got history going back earlier than the 400s. Had I known beforehand about the stories I may not have even gone. Spooky history, but beautiful location! My grandparents and many aunts & uncles r buried at a little church with cemetery on the premises outside the church in a remote little town.
This place was a little creepy and had a haunting beauty. The chapel is no longer used and there is a bigger church not far from this location that is no longer used as well. Quite sad but good that it's preserved. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great weekend 👍🙂Paul

This place is pretty ancient in terms of a place of worship and burial grounds so who knows what lurks there. I didn't hang around too much longer after that even tho it was somewhat hermit friendly. My family holiday was at Sandhead caravan park in the summer of 1981 and we visited this place in the evening. I was 16 at the time and it has always stuck in my memory. It was very peaceful and tranquil and it was a nice summer evening; in fact, just like your video here. But as the sun slowly set and the sky became tinged with red, and some colder wind came in from the sea, the atmosphere changed. Crows or ravens coming back to roost for the night. After a while here, you get a sense that you have "overstayed your welcome". My dad looked around and then said "Ok...let's get back to the car now". Later in the week, an old lady at the village pub said we should not go there and should not go back. It's a strange place. Yes, a lot of people report a sense of being watched. One of the stones reads in Latin: ‘Here lie the holy and chief priests, Ides, Viventius and Mavorius’ so it seems these 'high priests' were buried around here a very long time ago. Another stone apparantly alludes to the Book of Revelations, which of course is a scary part of the Bible. One of the inscriptions INITIUM ET FINIS, translates to "The beginning and the end".
That is an interesting story and I did actually feel uneasy after a time there. I thought it was the crows/ravens making their noise. I was glad I read the haunted stories after the fact or I may have not contained the urge to run. I certainly shall be in no hurry to return I have to admit. Thank you for the story and cementing the idea that I shall not make a return visit.
@@TheHikingHermit You should return:) Did you notice that some of the gravestones have skulls and crossbones on them? This was common on grave stones from the 18-19th century as a reminder of mortality. These symbols were part of a concept called "Memento Mori," which translates into "Remember that you will die." It was a reminder to the living visiting the graveyard that they too will die, and therefore you should live the best life that you can while you still can. In your video at around 2.06, the inscription on that grave reads:"Long days and nights he bore great pain, physicians tried but all in vain, then God in his wisdom thought it best, to end his pain and give him rest". I always remembered that and it unsettled me at the time. Whoever it was, they had already been in the ground for 140-160 years before I visited on that June night in 1981. It's either that grave or the one next to it, or one along that row. It may be weathered away now but if anyone visits they can look out for it. It is probably still readable.
@@sdm7372 I was a little unnerved on my visit. I have to admit I didn't look at the grave stones in detail but it seems I may have been missing out. Also I noticed on my video but didn't see it at the time what looks like a face and a hand on the grave stone at around 1:50 It's a spooky place that's for sure
@@TheHikingHermit Yikes--what is that on the gravestone at 1.50?! Saw it on your other vid as well. It looks like some demonic face and hand. That was definitely not there in 1981. I can say that for a fact. Maybe it is weathering or some joker painted it. Either way it is seriously creepy.

I always wonder how scared you would feel if you don't hear about the place being scary before you go. Without the sound, I'd just say it looks like a beautiful old little chapel. But then again, I am not a huge fan of ghosts and such.
