As a kid I used to dream that I was a ‘49er panning for gold. One way of copping with this virus isolation gave me a new hobby with pay dirt! I know it’s not to get rich, but after 5 bags, I’m getting fair panning skills and not dropping everything on the carpet! (🤪 My first bag had several decent flakes and one picker, I lost it all when I turned over my hand holding the uncapped bottle. If there was more than a couple of dollars worth, I’d follow your assaying video and cut a hole in the carpet!) I am disabled and cannot get out into nature right now so a bag at a time and lots of TH-cam videos is really fun. Thank you for all you do!
I don't know about others... but Dan I appreciated your honesty from the beginning. For me finding any gold in my pan is exciting.... thanks for all the great videos. I'm learning a lot! :)
As a recently retired science teacher it would have been fun to do this for my classroom. I taught all hands on science to at risk students with behavioral issues. These were all inner city kids and it was always amazing how they became excited about learning. When they first came to us the system had failed them and then spit them out. They hated school (couldn’t blame them) so it was so rewarding to teach to mastery as my philosophy was that education should be taught as exploration. I think this is why I have enjoyed your videos so much. Thank you.
Thanks Dan, pay dirt is not going to make you money but if you count how many times I’ve spent the day at a creek or detecting in the bush and came home with much less gold than it cost me to find it, then pay dirt is an effective way to boost your tally and revive the need to go and find more! Keep doing what you do Dan. It’s GREAT!
When I was a kid (7?, 8?), my dad took us on a vacation trip to the mountains. Everyone fished the streams, but I didn't catch anything. So my dad took me to a stocked private pond. The guy baited my hook, and told me to jig my cane pole up and down so the hook just touched the surface of the water. After about 10 seconds, a 3 lb trout hit my line, and I "caught" my first Rainbow Trout. This Bucket-O-Gold is like that.
I think it looked like fun. I also think my wife would focus on the fact that the dirt cost me $600. To that end it would be a fun experience that also gave my an opportunity to sleep in my car for a month. I love this channel. Good stuff mate, for Australia.
Another fine video!! Buying pay dirt, like you said,"you won't make money but it will be fun!" What a blast finding nuggets and a good amount of other sized gold. Keep prospecting,it's closer to reality! That's More fun!!!
The comments are almost as entertaining as the video.😂 Thanks for doing something most would Love to try but can’t afford. Beautiful Gold. 80% guarantee is fantastic!
I'll sell you a $100 bill (Canadian or American) and guarantee to buy it back for 90 cents, thus a 90% return of your money. Eh? (corrected re GSR reply)
While reading all these comments, there is one "X-Factor" no one is talking about. That being your initial cost in a Paydirt bag/bucket versus the cost to go find that same amount for yourself out of the land. You've got gas, food, lodging, clothing, equipment and other misc items. The old adage when it comes to finding Gold is akin to spending a dollar to find just .05 cents of Gold. A lot of effort without the R.O.I. So in some cases, doing Paydirt in the comfort of your 'abode' could be about the same (cost wise) as looking for it out in the Wild. I think for a number of people that don't do any form of mining should consider practicing with the small packs of paydirt and then practice again and again and again till you don't lose any of the fine stuff. The cost for some of the small packages would equate (value-wise) pretty much the same as the cost of filling up your Gas-tank to go find the gold.
Speak on it Saucehunter good point it would actually cost way more money in costs for food ,gas, misc, items to find as much gold as Dan had in his bucket
I love watching pay dirt videos. Give it 5 years and this will be an investment, bit like playing the pokies at the moment but at least you get a free bucket. 🤣
I think you're cool. I appreciate your comments before you opened it saying it won't be profitable. To me I would rather see you struggle for fine gold then to pay for nuggets put in dirt
This video is a perfect example of what Mr. Guitars was saying. He uses a third party buyer because he doesn't want the favoritism. I am happy to have seen that exact happening caught on digital and preserved forever on the internet.
In 1974 on a shooting trip we took the hub cap of a 64 holden and tryed to pan with it, i found a few specks and the gold bug got me im now eighty and not in good condition to pan again i would have to buy some pay dirt what a wonderful idea its the gold in the pan not the cost of getting it,it was exiting to see so much gold a month long prospecting trip might cost you more for less gold thank you Dan.
Hello Dan, My buddy sells paydirt and gave me a small bag in exchange for a book I had. My wife and I panned it on new years eve. SOOO FUN. Now I'm gonna buy a 20 dollar bag from him and give it yet another go.
I have purchased pay dirt and although you don't ever receive a 100% return (which I don't expect) it's a lot of fun. I've never found the nuggets I get prospecting than what I get with pay dirt so it is exciting to pan through it. I also use pay dirt as unusual Christmas and Birthday gifts, the response has been overwhelming positive, greater than I expected. This is the only channel I have subscribed to, I really enjoy your videos Dan! Thank you!
@@kd5ctt I had no clue! There are some small hills outside Abilene, in between Buffalo Gap and Coronados camp. Since I've gotten hooked on prospecting I've wondered many times if those hills produced anything? I found a lot of quartz and iron ore as a kid hunting out there.. I'm in the black hills of South Dakota now but I may just go do some panning next time I visit!?
You guys have shit loads of oil in the ground and no gold.. and you guys are looking for small flakes of gold... You guys are looking for the wrong element if you ask me.. Up here in b.c. we have tons of gold and no oil. Thats like me going out and looking for oil in gold country.. Its like wiping before you poop...it doesnt make sense You guys need to be getting your hands dirty with black gold and not the yellow stuff..
I am a bit confused. If the whole point of panning paydirt is to train yourself to be a better panner, then you should start with a known quantity of gold at different sizes to then compare how well you did in your recovery. Hopefully you are 100%, but you sure will be better then 80%. If you can't find at least 80% of the gold in a bucket, then you need to keep practicing. So if I put $3200 into buying a number of different nuggets and fines, assuming I can find all my gold in the bucket, I now have an essentially free learning tool, which I can reuse as many times as I need in any different condition I want to simulate. I have saved myself $600 that can be used for fuel or equipment. That sounds, to me, like a more sound business decision for your hobbie. What am I missing here that is worth $600?
Pay dirt is more for funny and you can also buy paydirt from areas that have gold so you can see if there is enough gold worth to go to where it was collected and pan there outside in the wild
When you started I thought of slot machine.. I wonder if the payout is similar... Haha. Should be pretty good. Gino i am sure fixed up a pretty good one. Watching to see the tally.
I lost money from my pocket once and found it years later embedded in soil where I sat in a park next to an art gallery. Nuts. I think I lost it in a drunken blur more than 20 years ago..maybe found it 3 year later I can't remember.
I've been wary of purchasing pay dirt for the very reasons you mentioned. I would like to get some to learn how to pan and learn how to get more fun from it as you do. This source you showed, Eureka, looks promising. It's my desire to deal with people who have integrity. That's what's important to me. Thanks for showing us what we could expect to receive. I hope Eureka gets a lot of business as a result.
I would never spend big money on a bucket. I like to get the little $5/10 bags from gift shops at the places I visit *if* its local gold. Ex: Barkerville. Yes, still losing money, but it's not much. I like having the local gold as a real souvenir.
When you buy pay dirt from Dave Varabioff at www.goldbay.com, you buy the specific amount of Gold and then that Gold is added to the dirt for you to pan. There is no "Buyer BEWARE", 100% satisfaction guarantee. You get what you pay for!
Should of added an ounce of your own gold the the bucket! Gino would see the video and be thinking , " did I add gold to the bucket twice? Man I blew that one"...lol
I watched the whole video! 3x actually. Going for a 4th. I've learned so much from you and I appreciate your hard work. I wish I had something to practice with. Nowhere to really pan where I live. Ill habe to drive to Tennessee to go. Planning a trip soon. :) ill go use all the skills you've taught me. ;)
Good video, Dan. However, I would never invest in a bucket of sand. I used to pan up in Oregon, and although I didn't find very much gold, I enjoyed the thrill of just finding gold in my pan.
@huckfinnsj - I have heard before, that Oregon is a great state to pan. You got to do, what a lot of people don't get to do. That is part of the reason why paydirt bags/buckets are popular.
Dan, it's amazing how many snarky, unkind comments on here. Cynicism is alive and well...too bad. I thought you made it pretty clear that buying paydirt is not for investment purposes. It is for fun Anyway, thanks for doing a quality video. I found it entertaining. I would suggest that classifying is appropriate for miners, for those who are trying to make wages, it makes sense. However, for those of us who are recreational panners, I suggest not classifying at all. Why? Because I prefer to find gold in the bottom of my gold pan rather than in a screen. I find that enhances the Eureka moment for me. As the owner of my own paydirt company and I love sharing the Eureka moment with others, and I love to hear my customers share their approval for our paydirt. So why buy paydirt? What a lot of folks don't seem to appreciate is that not everyone lives near gold-bearing land, so buying paydirt is their only option. Likewise, all the gold bearing land East of the Mississippi is on private property where you can't go without permission, so buying paydirt is their only option. Not everyone has the physical ability to go prospecting and meet all the physical demands of such a venture, so buying paydirt is their only option. Not everyone can afford the time or the financial resources and equipment required to go prospecting, so buying paydirt is their only option. Purchasing paydirt is the only rational option for a lot of people...I'm one of them and I love it. Thanks again for the video. I enjoyed it...and you inspired me to offer a 52 gram bucket on my store. mdv
Thanks for the info. I never thought of it that way. I got the fun factor/convenience but I never really saw how a lot of people don't have access to gold-bearing dirt since I live near a lot of gold sites. Now I have an even higher level of appreciation for the pay dirt market.
Cynical my ass. When social media influencers/youtubers make videos showing how great "paydirt" is from a specific store, and the store makes it specially for them with high yield, suckers can buy from them and get screwed, royally. Paydirt gold yields should be GUARANTEED since they are explicitly salted with gold by the vendor. Anyone reviewer with integrity would purchase these items through double-blind purchases so that the vendor doesn't know it's from some internet reviewer.
@@hawkeye-d1m He disclosed that this was a special bucket made for him and emphasized that you shouldn't buy paydirt expecting a net profit, because you won't find one. It's not his fault if someone skipped through to the part of the video with shiny stuff on screen and lacked the critical thinking skills to understand that businesses don't sell literal gold at a loss. Whatever sucker does that and ends up dropping $2500 on paydirt from an anonymous/shady source with zero prior research would have probably just blown the cash on scratchers and lotto tickets anyway.

My girlfriend had ordered me a 3lb bag that comes with a pan I like from this country for £36 with no guarantee of gold.Miller did a review not long ago and it wasn't that good so I'm not expecting much from it.I didn't get the chance to say there's a bag with a gram guaranteed for £60.but it will make a change from panning roadside cons out and I like the pan so it's ok.it was a present and you can't look a gift horse in the mouth.😁👍👌
I've wanted to practice panning for a while but I think I'm going to cut up some old lead sinkers and if I lose some I haven't lost anything or lost $600 on pay dirt. But thanks for the information!
This. I've always said that the real money in gold is in buying it from idiots wasting their time working six hours or more a day for ten bucks worth of profit and selling it to rich women in cities. Also gold prospecting equipment. I've made 2 wash plants, one man portable one on a trailer. I then sold them immediately without ever getting to test them in the wild for a ridiculous amount of money (the only thing close was when I built a $5k motorcycle and sold it for $25k when done - something I could repeat all day long but don't because I'm a moron) mostly because I used PVC and plastics and heat welding to assemble it making it far lighter in weight and passing several laws in Australia on machinery. A high banker sells for $1k+, yet has about $60 worth of parts to it, and I sold it for half market price. You can't tell me that's not a ridiculous scam. I actually felt dirty selling the above three machines I mentioned, I cannot morally do it. I feel like I'm a mugger or something because I know it's NOT worth that. Idk how companies like Gold Hog and Keene etc sleep at night. That's why I stick with my day job. But you're correct; the real money isn't in finding gold it's in exploiting the addiction. Just like art, or all the dolphin trainer ambitions young women have; the real money in art is selling art supplies, the real money in authoring is selling book publishing, the real money in music is paid distribution, the real money in modelling is banging hot chicks on the casting couch, uh, I mean selling them headshots for $50 a photo, etc, etc.
I loved the adventure of your nugget bucket panning fun. I too would try this because I'm 78 and physically could not go hunting for the gold. But I want the adventure of finding gold so there you go. LOVE YOUR SHOW!
As if. They knew they were selling this to a youtuber. He made money on that bucket. (a tiny amount, probably a hundred bucks or less) And they knew a ton of people were going to see that and come in and try to buy some or that was what they were hoping anyway. However not everyone is going to look at the date on the video, because people are notorious for being spontaneous. Today he would have made over a grand with the price of gold, give or take because of purity.
I haven't bought paydirt yet. I have bought nuggets from coin dealers and another place in California. When I was buying gold it was about $275 USD per ounce. Cool video. Thanks. Cheers!
Pulling gold out of the dirt then putting in back into dirt makes little to no sense to me. That is unless your making 30% or more to do so. I wouldn't buy remixed gold.
This is absolute best case scenario. You know the owner of the shop. They "custom made" this bucket for you. They know you're doing a TH-cam video. And then at the end you have to stretch the truth to come up with a $2,600 final value. The only concrete way to value the bucket is by the weight of the gold. The shape and desirability of individual nuggets is subjective. It should not cost hundreds (best case) or thousands to learn how to pan some gold. These buckets are just glorified scratch tickets, they aren't helping the hobby they are taking advantage of people.
@@Danhurd Was it $500 USD worth of fun? :D I'm glad you were very clear about "paydirt if for fun", otherwise the comment section can get pretty rowdy LOL good job on the video man. Ill see you next month!

Not all gold is found created equally. I have grown up being told that Scotish and Welsh gold is pretty darn pure and is worth more than in other countries. You mention a few times that your paydirt has Australian gold in it as it is big and shiney and worth a lot more. Australian gold is found in larger pieces but I thought it wasnt as pure and is worth less pound per pound (as such). I have looked online to try to identify which country has the purest gold but it only seems to want to list the biggest producers of gold or gold reserves. With your expert knowledge, can you let me/us know which countries have the best gold (quality not quantity). As this person knew you were coming and it would be on YT, could he have seeded the bucket with more than usual? Maybe do a blind test in a month or so.

Take all the gold out sep for like one or two nuggets.... and conveniently leave them on top also lol
Pay dirt can be a great learning aid but I would much rather see the gold come out of the ground. Nothing beats the experience of finding it your self in the great outdoors. ;)

This video basically showed me how panning works and I like that
Thank You Dan
As a recently retired science teacher it would have been fun to do this for my classroom. I taught all hands on science to at risk students with behavioral issues. These were all inner city kids and it was always amazing how they became excited about learning. When they first came to us the system had failed them and then spit them out. They hated school (couldn’t blame them) so it was so rewarding to teach to mastery as my philosophy was that education should be taught as exploration. I think this is why I have enjoyed your videos so much. Thank you.
Dan Hurd your the best kind of person! Keep on keepin on!
Thanks!
I agree I enjoy watching Dan's series on Gold Prospecting.
Please keep your Videos coming Sir. Jef from Southern Arizona
Don't throw out the left over dirt, it's worth $500 😂

this video has probably made him 4k. TH-camrs know how much this stuff makes!
That's because it's not a how to pan video, DUMMY!!!!
don't forget the bucket.
Big lol for you
Thanks Dan, pay dirt is not going to make you money but if you count how many times I’ve spent the day at a creek or detecting in the bush and came home with much less gold than it cost me to find it, then pay dirt is an effective way to boost your tally and revive the need to go and find more! Keep doing what you do Dan. It’s GREAT!
So this is like someone catching fish, selling them to a store, then the store putting the fish in a barrel, and selling it for people to fish in?
Nailed it brother 👊👊👊
Hahaha precisely
When I was a kid (7?, 8?), my dad took us on a vacation trip to the mountains. Everyone fished the streams, but I didn't catch anything. So my dad took me to a stocked private pond. The guy baited my hook, and told me to jig my cane pole up and down so the hook just touched the surface of the water. After about 10 seconds, a 3 lb trout hit my line, and I "caught" my first Rainbow Trout.
This Bucket-O-Gold is like that.

Another fine video!! Buying pay dirt, like you said,"you won't make money but it will be fun!" What a blast finding nuggets and a good amount of other sized gold. Keep prospecting,it's closer to reality! That's More fun!!!

I'll sell you a $100 bill (Canadian or American) and guarantee to buy it back for 90 cents, thus a 90% return of your money. Eh? (corrected re GSR reply)
Wise Ole Geezer Circa 1941 that would actually be less than a 1% return. It would need to be at least $9.00 to be 9% of $100 so, no deal 😉
@@garyssprinklerrepair
Sorry typo error. It should read OF your money, not ON your money.
The cost for some of the small packages would equate (value-wise) pretty much the same as the cost of filling up your Gas-tank to go find the gold.
iv been saying this for years to old now so if i want to pan and see gold today buy some pay dirt .
Speak on it Saucehunter good point it would actually cost way more money in costs for food ,gas, misc, items to find as much gold as Dan had in his bucket
I love buying paydirt. You dont buy it to turn a profit it is for the fun and that feeling you get when you unearth gold.
Wouldn't it make more sence to buy the gold online and then just mix in it a bucket of dirt? Make your own bucket...

I think you're cool. I appreciate your comments before you opened it saying it won't be profitable. To me I would rather see you struggle for fine gold then to pay for nuggets put in dirt

He clearly said it was a custom bucket and for fun.

Hello Dan,
My buddy sells paydirt and gave me a small bag in exchange for a book I had. My wife and I panned it on new years eve. SOOO FUN. Now I'm gonna buy a 20 dollar bag from him and give it yet another go.
This would have been much more entertaining if the intro didn't insinuate that Gino hooked up a salted bucket specifically for you...
Right!
doesnt even matter... he got roughly 1500-1700 in gold, spent 3200. YEET
Seriously... what even IS this tomfuckery?
"no black sands which is unrealistic"
Yeah cos I get 18 nuggets in a pan every day lol
lol
LOL WHERE THAT AT EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I have purchased pay dirt and although you don't ever receive a 100% return (which I don't expect) it's a lot of fun. I've never found the nuggets I get prospecting than what I get with pay dirt so it is exciting to pan through it. I also use pay dirt as unusual Christmas and Birthday gifts, the response has been overwhelming positive, greater than I expected. This is the only channel I have subscribed to, I really enjoy your videos Dan! Thank you!
I occasionally will buy paydirt. I don't get a lot of big gold in Texas so it is nice to see some larger pieces in my pan from time to time.
Agreed
I'm from Texas, Abilene to be exact.. Lol I didn't think we had any gold in Texas?
@@TheJrains I have found gold in Llano, Castel, Mason, and even in North Texas on the Brazos.
Its like wiping before you poop...it doesnt make sense
You guys need to be getting your hands dirty with black gold and not the yellow stuff..
Correct
Pay dirt is more for funny and you can also buy paydirt from areas that have gold so you can see if there is enough gold worth to go to where it was collected and pan there outside in the wild
He's making more than that on this youtube video, assuming he gets 1m views, the video will have paid for the bucket itself

When you buy pay dirt from Dave Varabioff at www.goldbay.com, you buy the specific amount of Gold and then that Gold is added to the dirt for you to pan. There is no "Buyer BEWARE", 100% satisfaction guarantee. You get what you pay for!
The gold you get is less than 0.05% to what you pay for the bucket of gold.

It is for fun
Anyway, thanks for doing a quality video.
Now I have an even higher level of appreciation for the pay dirt market.
jaw willow Sounds like you are advocating socialism to me.
@@MdvGau okay boomer... you wouldnt socialism if it bit you in the a$$
@@hawkeye-d1m He disclosed that this was a special bucket made for him and emphasized that you shouldn't buy paydirt expecting a net profit, because you won't find one. Step 1: Open a pawn shop.
Step 2: Profit.
Step 3 make a TH-cam channel about it

Come to Australia 🇦🇺 mainly Western Australia go metal/gold detecting and if you look in the right spots you’ll for sure find a lot of gold
just as much gold in victoria!

"Custom"
I think that was Lynch paydirt.
This one is a custom bucket that cost more.
This is actually very accurate with the costs, he didn’t add any extra gold.
Awesome as a gift. I would not spend my hard earned cash on it
I did in fact watch this whole video!
I haven't bought paydirt yet. I have bought nuggets from coin dealers and another place in California. When I was buying gold it was about $275 USD per ounce. Cool video. Thanks. Cheers!
For 3 grand it should be more like over 2 Oz?
8 ads on this video, I’m sure this video paid for that bucket by now.
Fuckin right lol
🤣🤣🤣
As a newer prospector this is a good way to learn. Thank you for sharing.
I could not agree with you more than I do already !
@@fl4k_40 lol right only some of the gold they added to the dirt
