- After an initial test, I decided to buy a new Fraser River Claim. This is my first bigger test to see how much gold is actually there. And I am pleasantly surprised with the amount.

Option A. I enjoy watching the smelting process.
Option A with a twist- include the gold you panned including the mercury bits and see how much more comes out.

Love your videos Dan my husband has turned in to the best person because of your videos they have gotten him up and doing a lot more research and getting him outside is priceless
Have you tried a shoulder pole? A 2m long pole across the shoulders. At either end is an arm-length rope with a hook at the bottom. Squat down a little, hook the hooks onto the bucket handles, then stand up. That way, you hands can be used to just steady the buckets as you walk rather than having to grip tight and hold the buckets up through your hands, wrists, arms, and shoulders. When not being used to carry buckets, you can use it as a walking stick and add to your look as a wizard.
I was thinking the same thing
Asians for the win lol
Yup neck yoke
Yoke
That was my first thought. Using shovel handle with pad for shoulder.
What you need is a bucket yoke. They've been using that for centuries here in Norway to carry heavy buckets. (Norwegian: Åk)
I like it when you and Jayson collaborate. So that's my vote.
Same.
Hey Dan. Been watching your videos for years and have to be honest....I'm jealous lol. My Son and I pan here in northern Ohio for glacier gold . We don't find much but you think you get excited when you you find a couple dozen pickers in your pan you should hear us when we find a couple specks waaaaa hoooooo. Anyway , I just watched you lug those 5 gallon buckets 10 miles and by the end of the day your knuckles will be all raw from your arms dragging on the ground on the way back to your truck. I know people have given you ideas on how to get the paydirt back to the high banker. I have another one for you. What about getting a good military surplus one or two man life raft and some good strong rope. Fill your buckets or even quarter or half fill the life raft with the paydirt. Then float the raft by dragging it back to where your high banker is located. It's worth a try and sure might save your back if it works and besides you don't have to feed the life raft like you would using a donkey lol. I know this might sound like a dumb idea but you have to expect this from a dumb old fart like me. I'm almost 75 years old and my Son 48 but we are getting out next year after the spring run off as we know where there is a nice long corrugated pipe with natural riffles built right in to catch the gold. Oh one more thing. I sure pray you can swim as those bear tracks were HUGE!!!! Only way to maybe escape is to jump into the river. I know bears can swim too but if I had a bear after me before I made it to the river he isn't going to catch me as he is going to be slipping in all the do do I leave behind me. Take care Dan and GOD BLESS. Mike
My suggestion for carrying those buckets of soil/rock: Bring a couple of strong lads with you! LOL The gold sponge was really interesting!
For those curious about the rule about highbankers draining into the river; The idea is to keep the riverbank sediment more-or-less where it is already and not get washed further downriver, contributing to erosion. For a setup like Dan's you would be correct in thinking it'd be too negligible to matter much, but the law is in place to stop one becoming one thousand or letting one big operator destroy a region.
Over the winter months, when you're not out harvesting the good stuff, would you do a video on the buying/leasing a claim process?
he has a few videos talking about it, maybe not in extreme detail, but he has mentioned it a few times already.
In the location that I usually go mining I have a similar situation where I have to carry buckets down river. Some times I use a paddle board or blow up boat to move buckets of dirt.
Yeah, a paddle board would work i would think unless topsy-turvey.
Dan, to speed up the cleanup process I found for me what works best is to tilt my pan at almost a 90 degree straight up with the gold and black sand in the deep crevices of the Garrett Super Sluice Pan. Then I constantly shake while letting the water remove the black sands. This way I get down to almost all gold deep in the ridges. I have never seen any videos where this is done. Everyone wants to swirl back the overburdened to reveal the gold but it’s always time consuming. Try this process.
"Amazing to see so much gold in one place. Great work!"
🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks! There is a ton of gold here, but the problem is getting it out
Take it to MBMM. Always love to see Jason on the videos.
A fellow fella with back issues feels for you my friend.
Always enjoy your collaborations with MBM Jason.
Good vids. Handles- take 3/4 pvc length of your hand width saw one cut length wise ( not in half ) start by slipping over the metal and line up on the handle pvc glue together duct tape quickly before glue sets. There is such a difference it’s all comfy Have a great day !!!
Reminds me of the small bedrock pocket I panned on the Yuba River in California's Mother Lode country. It contained a high percentage of flakes that were clearly amalgam (as tested by evaporating the mercury in a test tube in open air). Once you see it, easily remembered. That stretch had been worked back in the days of the '49ers, probably Chinese miners noted for their thorough cleaning of stream channels.
In the forest we use a type of electrically powered wheelbarrow callt "Schweizer Karre" (swiss cart) made by the Czech company Bravo. It may not be much help on the river, but it could be useful on various other claims where loads have to be transported uphill and downhill. We use this motorized wheelbarrow to transport pieces of wood for firewood through uneven forest to the next road. You do have to lift it, but the motor means it moves on its own, which makes the work easier.
Thank you so much for updating your introduction music!Flour Gold Wizard has a mini sluice for cleaning up his flour gold.
I would love to spend a day with you, your knowledge is what I admire. You understand things that we would not normally think of, and I have a very acquiring mind. Pity this is not possible but keep up teaching us.😊
Love the Paydirt that I got for my Bday! Wife got me some panning equipment too so I can go out and enjoy nature.
I’m not a gold miner but isn’t there something like a wire brush, stiff brush or broom you could bring to get all that small stuff out of the grooves of the bedrock? I know you use a vacuum but has to be some lightweight tool better than your hands.
@@jamesskorupa8694hand dredge, picks, hands and yeah you could probably use a brush
@@jamesskorupa8694 I've seen him use screwdrivers something like a mini crowbar (I'm not mr tools)
Been watching you for years, most relaxing videos on TH-cam, thanks Dan. Merry Christmas
dig up the black sand lines made in he highbanker tailings. send that with your panning tailings as well.
I liked seeing the "Cerro Gordo" shirt at 21:30! You, Jason and Brian are my go-to guys for learning and entertainment. Thanks Dan. Merry Christmas!
Cart hell, you need a donkey. :)
How many donkey do you need, sir…
Or a "Baba Yaga" type heavy lift octocopter that takes up to 40kg payload
I like that one and call the donkey " Will "
Or train a bear.
Donkeys can be an ass 😂
We're the same age, similar health issues, and I've opted to coin hunt the stuff they've already broke their backs to get it out of the ground! Still enjoying your channel 😉
Dan, I wanna say thanks I’m a 72 year-old bedridden retired preacher. I look forward to watching your videos for years now thank you sir. Rev. Paul M Vining Sr Eustis Florida.
Dan, you can use the gopro while it is plugged in if you take the battery out.
Don't even need to take the battery out, I do it ALL the time
Follow in the footsteps of the Egyptians and use a RAFT! You could load where you dig, tie a long rope to it, then just float it down to where you want to hi-bank, save your back!
He has to bring it up or across, we aren't allowed to high bank close to water
@dougmcmillan2483 a 10ft walk up the bank beats a 100ft walk along the shoreline to get to the 10ft walk up the bank when moving 4 buckets of anything.
@@IIIIlIIIllpully system for taking the major weight off with a easilly set up and easily moved mountable leverage pointwith drawcable, you can then bring the buckets in bulk or with ease allowing for easy movement and fast transfer from collection point to highbanker point and you wont have to modify the terrain or damage nature or whatnot. Gotta just use all engineering techniques when hypothesizing the best way to make things easier, you never know what one will do the trick sometimes unrelated forms can be applied for unique areas
So much cost, and work, to save 10 minutes of hard labor. It's like spending $20 to save $10
@Danhurd but what about the reduction in back pain? Certainly, that's got some value? :)
Dan, I think that is one of the best videos you've ever made I thoroughly enjoyed it and part of the benefit is that beautiful view. Think so much for sharing❤.
Where is pioneer Pauly when you need him to carry those buckets.
He’d spill more than he carried
If you want to move heavy stuff along the banks of a river, have you considered a boat? Canoe, skiff, or just a small inflatable would work. You could have just floated it all downstream in one trip, no carrying necessary. Haul it along shore empty to take it back upstream. (Reminds me that large wilderness canoes are sometimes called prospector canoes because they're designed to go far up rivers and carry a ton.)
In the good old days prospectors had a mule for moving paydirt ... but these days mules are hard to find outside of Ottawa ...
Nice...lol
I don’t have a suggestion for a wheel cart, but I do for a better vacuum! I’ve used the Milwaukee, but my 2gal Makita 18v is better. with only 5ah batteries it lasts just as long on high and hepa- wet/ dry. Hose is nicer too.
There’s a product called the Forearm Forklift Bucket Buddy. It could be a Low cost, takes up very little space and weight, that might be worth checking out for lifting and distributing the weight of the buckets across your shoulders.
That's a lot like the pot lifter that I've been suggesting for heavy rocks. It needs two people but he and a friend could bring out huge rocks that he usually has to leave behind.
I'm going to second this suggestion
Yep.
I find your videos very rewarding, love the results regardless
Good morning everyone from Michigan
Detroit area here..... Good morning!...🙂👍
@guidorea8347 just outside of Port Huron
Always good to catch up on older episodes.
Go old school and use a yoke, carrying pole or whatever you call them. English is not my first language :) I have carried heavy loads of water in bad terrain using a shoulder yoke. Works great!
Dan love your videos. Instead of a cart what about a cheap little raft load her up float it down holding a guide rope. Just a thought 🎉
Today I learned that I'm older than Dan.
in the 10-15 years ive been on youtube, ive never once been unsubbed from a channel that i didnt do myself.
Send it off to Jason

WOW, that was some hard digging..
Prayers for your back, lol..
And thanks for the microscopic look at the amalgamated gold/mercury.. It looks pretty cool, but knowingly dangerous..
7:03 you need a sherpa
Or a fat truck . Basically a Canadian made sherp.
Great video Dan. Super funny and honest about the carrying of the buckets and the special terrain that you’re dealing with.
Buy a Jon boat Dan!! YOU CAN PUT 8 buckets in there easily and just float it up stream to the high banker! You should’ve classified it too!!
Agreed next to water a boat is the route would go bu I l prefer watching your hard work for me from my bed Lot easier for me leaving it o the professional
@@saragandey8625 he would’ve got twice as much gold!! Maybe 4x if he classified n boated!!
So much cost, and work, to save 10 minutes of hard labor. It's like spending $200 to save $10

Ever tried panning out here in Iowa?
Turns out that you'll need a permit from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources based on the location and certain amount that your panning for in Iowa.
Hit that 👍 for DAN THE MAN folks.!!!
Have you ever thought about bringing an inflatable raft? Fill the raft up with dirt, have it tied to a rope, let it float down the river, pull the raft in once it's downstream, unload from the raft.
Dan get a hover cart from the year 3000 it will save u
Hi Dan, I love your vids. My natural jealous instinct does make them hard to watch sometimes, most of the time, just inspired❤️❤️❤️
Send them to Jason.
Thank you for another well produced gold prospecting adventure. Beautiful river and fun music and commentary. Thank you.
24:46 dude that is amazing. Hour and a half on a beautiful day, and you got this? Outstanding.
I am still subscribed, Dan and I always hit the thumbs up button, usually before I watch.
A monowheeled powered cart like the packwheel might work, or any of the monowheeled carts made for trekking/hiking might actually work, and the ones with powered assist like electric bikes and a fat wheel would probably manage the sand as well
Realy enjoyed the video as usual! Thanks for sharing your adventure 😀
Just need an inflatable raft and a length of rope. Anchor the rope half way between dig and process area. Fill buckets, place in raft, shove raft into stream. Walk down to the process area and take the beached buckets out of the raft.
Good job 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Glad you enjoyed it!
I still say a good strong cart is the way to go. Frame out some hardware cloth to cover the cart and classify as you shovel into it. Super fast and better than carrying rocks.
If you plan on spending a lot of time there, it's really no big deal to clear a little cart path first. You can line it with tailings so it's solid.
Impressed by the athletic 👟's and bare hands. Reminds me of my youthful adventures of just full bore slam it home attitude!!!🤪
Now that’s some nice GOLD!!! Thanks for the hard work for Dan, love your content.
I would love to see you put all the gold back in the black sand and send it Jason at MBMM to see what weight he gets from smelting.
Balance is exactly what it needs. I'm 77 and when I carry a heavy load in one hand I use a cane in case I need to help. I normally don't use a cane, but it can help.
Nice thumbnail sir. What a blessing to watch you have so much fun. I tell lots of people about your videos.
Time by the river looking for the mother load! PRICELESS...
I just had a thought. Have you ever seen those rotary brooms that are used to sweep gutters and driveways? Try one of those on that rough bedrock. As for the wheeled cart suggestion.... my input is pack goats. Look at some videos of pack goats. They are impressive.
Awesome! Happy to see you find so much gold. Fargin!
Hi there. You need 1: a yoke to carry your buckets and 2: a Shaker table with a magnetic separater. The last one is kinda pricey but will pay for itself over time.
Hers a tip..goto the auto wreckers n get some seat belts.. using straps with some hooks and a adjuster ..takes a bunch of wight off the arms and let's the body carry the load
will make the carrying way easier..
Haven't seen ya in awhile glad u still at it ❤❤
Dan the man Glad to see ya doing what you love bro, happy Holidays bud blessings to you and your family.
Planning to go BC in this summer from Toronto.
Hope we will have a same luck 😅
Never really was interested in panning for gold but this was really interesting
That is hard work. But you seem so happy to be doing it.
Have you tried a small flat boat? You could load the buckets and walk the shore with a rope. Easy downstream and easier up as well.
A slightly customized ox yoke for the buckets might really help putting the weight on your shoulders then you have your arms to articulate. 🖖
Hey Dan, great location. Klesh has a great technique for this kind of dirt. He collects the gold as he sees it while swirling or back panning
Your music during pan/black sand has a My Sharona vibe
Watching from Carthage Missouri, the temps got to 29 degrees F last night. Today is about 38 outside, but sunny. I wish there were areas here in Missouri to pan.
Get an inflatable raft or boat and float it down. Avoid the rocks. You got a battery for the high banker use a lil juice to fill up the raft or boat
so if a trolly is no good then we need to invent some kind of device for the high banker to recirculate water so its not discharging into the river
You should use a blimp to move that materiel over the rocks. You can call it a "sky crane".
Thanks, nice day for panning; winters coming
My idea is to modify a hiking backpack to hold a bucket or rectangular garbage basket distributing the weight across the shoulders and hips.
Could even carry something in your hands as well. Happy Prospecting
My almost 4 year old is a big fan. He would love if you had some little pay dirt bags…if we could get our hands on one so he could try to find something in it.
You thought about a truck inner tube and float the buckets down them down wherever, easy to carry and inflate too!, enjoy your video's cheers from UK
instead of a cart you might be able to find some kind of backpack bucket thing that would make it easy to balance too. there has to be something like that somewhere.
Hey dan you should get yer self a neck yoke for carrying buckets bro i made one for myself out of a couple s hooks and a willow trunk, it really helps releive the stress on the back an shoulders, that way you can walk with ease an dont have to use your shoulders, thousands of years old technique for the modern day miner
No question about it, send it to Jason, Maybe he will do a video we can watch. I enjoy watching him work with his equipment and chemicals.
Suggestion…fill a bucked with some water and ‘rinse off’ those large rocks, then chuck them. You’d end up with the residual gold in the concentrates. Only then, carry them to the sluice.
Try smaller buckets and a wire brush broom and dust pan on a stick to clean the bottom so you dont bend over.
Wishing you and your family all the best 👍
Right on Dan that's a great Claim awsome see ya 🎉😊
Love to watch and learn . Hopefully this idea my prove helpful. How about a yoke. To help carry buckets.
A yoke would give you some ease to carry and not tire wrists. Centuries old tech. Actually is still used as the centre bar on canoes for carrying on the neck/shoulders.
I know squat about prospecting, Dan! But, logic suggests that a small inflatable dingy on a sturdy rope of length, would allow the river to do the "heavy lifting" when you're traveling down it with your haul!
Just a little tip that might help for next time. Lay the bucket on its side and use a yard brush to brush into the bucket. Thanks for the upload.
Yes, a heat gun could be used to flatten one side of the bucket.
Smaller pails! I used to clean a gun range and we used large pails like yours for lead and brass casings. As I got older, I convinced my boss to get half pails. More trips up the stairs but easier, overall.
Dan dan the tin pan man! Nice looking highbanker there!
