I like that you're talking about safety concerns after a fire. Things like winds are not often considered.

i know people harvesting burnt standing timber for lumber and firewood. apparently light winds bring down a lot of deadly snags as their roots are burnt or rotten. very dangerous to explore during wind storms

May I just say I appriciate "I hope to earn your subscription today." So many youtubers start their videos with "like, share and subscribe" and as a first time watcher I can't help but think. "This is my first time watching and the beginning of your video. Don't tell me to like something I haven't even seen yet!" You did indeed earn my subscription. I certainly enjoyed watching you prospecting. Agates are such fun rocks. I LOVE how you show the cleaned up and cut rocks at the end. That really makes the video fun, seeing what you really came away with after all that work. :) I had never considered a forest fire being good for prospecting. We actually had some very big fires last year. You inspired me to poke around out there!

Hey Dan… I live in Oregon near the Columbia River. You are so right about the fires. Time will heal. Really enjoying your videos. With all of the world discontent these days you provide a wonderful respite from the worlds misery. Thank you Sir.

Natures way of a reboot ! LoL
Thanks Dan, for taking us along.
Please keep up the great videos.
I always enjoy walking the crop fields along the Ohio river after the big floods have receded, I find amazing arrowheads. If you are out late, and as the sun is setting , you can look to the east , and all the flint is shining , it looks like the stars in the night sky. It is incredible to see the craftsmanship of these handmade beauties.
I have found arrowheads, celts, bowls, spear points, crafted stand club heads, awls and punches.
Makes for a great day in southern Ohio. I think might enjoy it yourself Dan.

I used to work for the U.S. Forest Service from 1987-1988, and the National Park Service from 1989 to 1992, and we had an interagency fire crew. The Forest Service office and the National Park Service office I worked in both were on the same fire crew. I got to do quite a bit of wild-land fire fighting and saw a lot of this kind of territory. The Forest Service district I worked on in South Dakota had a huge fire in 1988 and we went in afterwards and set up a bunch of timber sales to remove the timber that was still harvestable. A lot of it ended up going as economy lumber, because the lumber gets discolored. It takes on a blue tinge when it's heated up at forest fire temperatures.
We had to be very wary of damaged trees falling at any time and if the wind came up, we pulled out of the area. I spent a good part of one fall doing nothing but marking trees for sale.
The National Park Service tends to let fires burn if the fire is inside it's boundary's but if it threatens surrounding property, they will go after it and put it out. 1988 was the year that Yellowstone National Park burned, and they first just let it burn because it was in the middle of the park. After a couple of weeks it had spread so much they decided to control it. Our fire crew was dispatched to the fire along with a lot of other crews too, but I didn't go on that fire. I was also in the Army National Guard at the time, and had drill the weekend they left. But someone has to stay back and be available on the district for fire suppression if a fire broke out there. Luckily our fire was out by that time and nothing more happened that year.
The hills burned out in the video brought back a lot of memories.

You are one of the best people on the web I live in Arizona and have done a lot of prospecting with a metal detector. I was prospecting the westside of the uperstitions and a camp of a minor. The most interesting thing I found there was a shoe anvil I wish I had kept it but I left it there. My third great-grandfather came from Ireland to America. That's how I knew exactly what it was weather prospecting for gold ore for gold it's so interesting if you're ever planning a trip to Arizona I could help you find some real interesting places

Wow awesomeness, they are stunning. I’ve seen devastation like that in Western Australia, we lost so much plus full townships burnt down and over the other side of Australia, well let’s just say they had it way worse than us. The only difference between your trees and some of ours is ours can look dead and 2 months later they start sprouting new growth. Not all of them though and that’s so very sad. Anyway thank you for sharing those beautiful agates they are truly beautiful. God bless, take care and stay safe and well 🙏🙏🥰🥰👏👏👍👍💖💖

Used to be a forest firefighter, can say I know the damage that fires can do, worked all over the west side of the nation here in the US. But those dragon feet you call are called elephants foot, but I always thought they looked more like dinos or dragons myself. Also sad part about loosing forest like that in a burn that just rips through everything it takes many years before it recovers, had fires I know that burnt like that and 20 years later its still not the same, lots of little stuff will pop up but the trees themselves take a long long time to come back. Anyways just happen to find your channel from youtube magically popping this up in my feed, nice content so far and cool methods of seeing how this stuff is really done.

just been for a trip out to the Blue John mine here in the UK with the little'un after they got into the idea while watching TH-cam channels such as yours before bedtime!
Had a great time and was able to see evidence of some of the things you talk about on here such as amygdale holes where agates may once have been.
Was a bit strange to be seeing these as the caves were reputedly formed via water eroding limestone.
They definitely looked like ball and socket joints though.
I asked the guide about them and he didn't seem to know, however, he did mention that a geologist was conducting studies as to whether there may well have been any volcanic activity previously.
Maybe they had a similar thought upon seeing the 'socket' shapes 🤷🏻‍♂️
