No man, I don't know which paints you used yet, but you won gold at Golden Demon because you're fucking incredible, that's it.
😘 Super super super appreciated 😘😘😘
Marco: Guys painting is so easy all you have to do is know color theory, have good brush control, airbrush, control,...
*5 minutes later*
Marco: and have the right paints.
Everyone else: Man you're just amazing. I am sure it came from practice and we all need to practice and paint more anyways but I am pretty sure you could use paints from a dumpster to get an amazing result.
Amen
Was about to comment something similar. No "magic paint" is going to make you elite, it's all you.
This pretty summarize it.
Paint collecting is the real hobby
My spouse accused me of that last year
"Look, I know you enjoy painting and I'm glad you're excited but... are you sure you aren't really just a paint collector?" - gestures around at my paint shelf(ves)
The real, actual, and absolutely niche hobby is getting obsessed with a specific color and getting all possible paints from every brand for that specific color. I know it well. I have over 50 paints of red and red adjacent hues.
There are whole brands I haven't checked out because I have way too many paints. Like these look very different so I might check them out but things like TTC and Broken Anvil and others I passed on due to having too much paint already. Heck, I have so many of the old Army Painter bottles I didn't bother with the new ones. Maybe as I finish some of those I'll check out the new stuff but it's going to be a minute.
My girlfriend knows that if I go missing in a store that has art materials, she's probably going to find me in the aisle with the acrylics. If I'm not there, I'm looking for brushes. And she's an enabler, because she likes to watch me paint.
I wouldn't be surprised if half the models Marco speedpaints in his videos would win demons.
Now that I broke the ice with the GD I want to try with a speed paint and see what happens 😋
When you, 3 minutes into the video said that you would 'not even bother talking about' paints without proper universal names, pigments and levels of opacity on the tube, I was really impressed. I realised how much respect you deserve. Congratulations on your Golden Demon win.
"I have bad news honey but I think it's time to remortgage the house again: it looks like Marco is telling me to buy some more paints."
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 I have to make an apology/take the blame video to share with wifes and partners 😂🤣😂🤣😂
"I know I just bought the entire SoFlat range, but Marco said I could win a Golden Demon with these!"
Marco has done more to drive my enthusiasm for painting and the improvement in my skills and understanding over the last few years than all the rest put together.
He's also over the years, sold me on a couple of dozen of scalecolour artist tubes, 40ish so flats, a kimera basic set and a £30 Windsor and Newton set that led to roughly £350 of artist quality oil paints, finally a little over half of the liquitex goauche range.
Then there's all the thankfully discounted coffee table books of old master's works, three Carravaggios alone and a huge folder of printed out modern reference works from the Internet.
If my wife knew it was all Marco she'd have hired a hitman long ago. Instead she has this crazy notion that I'm addicted to buying paint!
Crazy woman
And now what is it Marco wants to tell me?????
from the Liquitex range you really only need 5 colours from those you can make 168 other colours and he thanks Marco in more than one of his Videos for his help and knowledge
@@corydoraspete4493 absolutely true but the draw of liquitex over so flat is the bottles and the premixed beautiful shades that just need tweaking into a gradient, so flat being purer pigmenting and a good mid point between kimera and mixed paints
I only "need" CMYK but there are at least 20 pigments that I love to work with 😁
😂😁😂 Phil, I can only say: I love you man!!! As always, thank you sooooo much for your trust and say sorry to the wife for me 😅
I'm a long-time Patron. I've only once got to join your Twitch stream (I painted too and it was quite enjoyable). Thank you so much for making this video, and please keep making them. Please try to continue focus on theory, technique, philosophy, etc. as I enjoy that far more than anything else. I have very limited time to paint, and your methods have allowed me to paint beautiful models despite the time constraints. Never forget about those of us who simply cannot join you on Twitch very often!
Man, you turned me on to oils a few months back and it's been a blast learning, but now these are making acrylics look fun again. That "no separation" sequence on the wet pallet was jaw dropping.
I actually did not see this coming: a hobby brand making artist paints that perform better than artist brands. Please take them with you to the workshop in the Netherlands in about 5 weeks Marco!
The first batch is officially part of my travel box now!!! 😁 Can't wait to make you play with them 😁
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM ❤
"Honey, get my wallet! Yeh, Marco is talking about paints again"
Wow!I have loved BROM’s art since Darksun! I’m super psyched to try his paint line.
---> *_Gratz on the Golden Demon!_*
*_Those Midwork Studio paints do look awesome._*
Marco your talents are insane you speed paint better then most painters can paint with hours and hours
😊😁😊😘😘😘
That TMM gold on the statue is stunning. How did you achieve that?
I'm so proud of you, Marco. You're my painting hero, and your success brings me joy.
Whenever there is even a slight lull in my painting Marco somehow gets a brush into my hands by the end of the video, "Oh I gotta try that!" thanks again!
Absolutely loved seeing your name and entry piece pop up in the WH article for the Golden Demon Winners! Congrats man! Your unique style is really proving that you dont need to follow the traditional ways of the competition. Pure talent and creativity can really shine even at Golden Demon
Before even watching the video, I want to say congrats, brother! It's always such a joy to watch you paint. Your enthusiasm for the hobby is contagious and makes push myself and try new techniques again and again.
So, let's click play and see what new paints I may have to buy next 😁
Congratulations, man!!!! Well deserved!
Congrats on the win! I was wondering when we'd see you address it!!!
I also love the water effect you have.
What I love about your vids is the actual us of color theory. Your paints just look my paint box from college when it was full of Liquitex and Shminke paints.
Great video, thanks Marco!
Congrats brother !!!
Congrats, Dude!!!
Great review Marco!
That's some impressive product. I was super happy to see your name on a Golden Demon. I don't know you for real and we never met, but it felt like a friend won ahah.
Well delivered educational material. Thanks to you I started looking closely at graffiti and art shops. Before I didn’t know Montana, Molotov, Shmincke, Golden and others, great products.
Thanks for the sneak peak. It's interesting to see how the 'miniature' side of things is starting to get more 'artist' side of things. These paints are interesting with real names and the ingredient list. Thumbs up. Not sure 'regular' painters will dig those bottles though as they've been trained for those specific bottle types that are already common.
Congrats on the Golden Daemon!
Congratulations, well deserved.
Almost seems like a mix between oils and acrylics. I dont know the science of paint manufacturing but if I had to take a guess, maybe they did add some linseed oil to it?
They are incompatible like... Well oil and water 😅, but it's true and part of that chasing the behaviour of oils typical of art store acrylics!
Awesome. Well done, well deserved.
Marco, you are the legend! Grats with golden demon :)
Marco makes mixing paints for colors, airbrushing etc, look easy and I STRUGGLE with it
It’s really about the paint you use. Hobby paints are formulated for opacity or coverage and this makes them very difficult to mix.
6:14 very much agree. No need to add the premixed magenta / blue / turquoise plus white paints if the only contain a single pigment plus white. At least the raw umber would be slightly more difficult to mix yourself, but even in that case I would have preferred a PR101 single pigment to let us mix it ourselves.
Radiant paints are quite popular between oil painters, so I'm curious to ask Brom about this choice (I'll have the chance to interview the man himself at Kontrast next weekend 😋). This is a "signature set" more than an academic limited palette kit, so I'm prone to be more forgiving and accept some oddities, but when the single tubes will become available I'll probably skip those 😅
My secret weapon that I think everyone could use.. is I thin with retarder, not water. Blends becomes so easy. Glazing and and stipple blending too. Makes it all easy mode.
Friggin awesome man well deserved that Golden Demon.
Hi Marco, always great to see another of your videos. How do these and Kimera (who are also running a Kickstarter atm) compare?
That last bit where you showed them sitting on the wet palette for over 24 hours without separating was the thing that sealed it for me. My first (and only) container of Corax White drove me to art store materials over hobby shops a long time ago. Michaels, Blick, Jerry's, and Culture Hustle make up more than 70% of my paint and materials.
I've managed to stay away from Kickstarter for a long time, but I just clicked the notification on this campaign. Single pigment paints that never separate, thin down with no fuss or special additives, and have a satin finish? Yes, please.
Great video, do you have any advice for someone new to using these heavy body paints and what to do to get the best out of them compared to other, more common, acrylics?
These look great! So happy to see more actual artists colors. How are these compared to Scale color Artists series?
Thanks for this amazing video! and really happy you won a Golden Demon! Congrats!
About the new Mindwork studio paints, if you compare them with the Scale 75 Artist Paints that are heavy too, are they similar? is there anything different from them, as i believe you used them before i am right?
I have the Scale 75 Artist line, but always search for more and better paints, atm the Mindwork KS is interesting for me because of the paints and your review, but there is also the Kimera Models KS right now too so its very difficult :( . What do you thing this new paints compare with the Scale 75 artist paints and the Kimera models paints?
Marco , you didnt answer :(
I wasn't that interested until you showed how they last on the wet palette. So many paints break down horribly on the wet palette, even ones that I otherwise like. It's a great feature, especially for a limited set where you're going to be mixing a lot of colors.
Congrats on golden deamon Marco, you well deserve it ;]
As a kid I could never afford GW paints. I used my mom's acrylics for painters. And I still use them. I know it is more demanding to mix and thin them, but I'm more independent having learned that.
That's a huge advantage!!! I often joke about the fact that most of my teaching job is about correcting people's bad habits coming from the GW workflow and paints 😅
Mr F you are the reason I have made the effort to learn the methods of the old Italian Masters. How they volume before glazing hues over the top. Sfumato and the multiple finely blended layers of thin oil paint. Yes I am old school and use oils for the work time they allow
1:10 eres el Putoamo Marco. Making a disclaimer to say you are “totally biased” becose the product totally fits your needs makes me want to embrace you and invite you a beer. Gracie per el tuo lavoro! (Está bien dicho?)
i was looking to get into artist grade paints, this is very exciting
You are easily one of the best miniature painters on earth. Holy shit.
You the man!
These strike me as being very similar to the Golden Open Acrylic range of paints.
Golden Open (that are really interesting and great for specific things) are very transparent and take waaay longer to dry! They are definitely closer to oils and these to acrylics
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Most excellent. It sounds like they managed to get the working time on pallet of oils, but the dry time of standard acrylic with this new range. I will keep an eye on the kickstarter launch.
My problem, as someone with miniature painting as a teriary hobby, is that I cant spend 120€ on paints that will last long enough that even my children can use it. Money is tight so if I can just spend 30 bucks on a CMY set in miniature painting sizes that is far more attractive
Hello @Marco: nowadays, what are your experiences and thoughts on the Classic and the newer kimera colours like the signature lines? I recently watched one of your older Videos where you liked kimera colours a lot and I watched a Video from ninjon, saying some of them could have a foggy finish when you glaze. I was wondering what your experiences/thoughts would be. Very thankfull for any comment :)
Hi Marco, knowing the paint doesn’t separate when used in wet palette but does the paint leaves a hardened crust on top? I realise heavy body paints like scale artist paints does this and i need to pick off the hardened crust.
I purchased Kimera, because of Marco and still use them. Then he used scale75 paints in the tube so I purchased those and love them as well. I guess more paint is incoming;
Is there a video on the painting of your Golden Demon entry?
gauging from phthalo green and dioxazine they either skimped on pigment load because of their strength or they contain a type of filler/opacifiers/any of the sort. Either would be dissapointing; unless the price reflects it.
I've started using heavy body acrylics in some limited applications and found them to be a really useful tool in the arsenal. But I'm not sure I'd be ready to widen my collection beyond a few key colors. They certainly require more work to get where we'd want them for miniature painting than most of the miniature paint brands.
Hi Marco!
How would you say these paints compare to Scale artist and Kimera? They seem to be more usable from the bottle than kimera, but seem to have a lot in common with SA.
Thanks to the paints, and an enormous level of talent.
The perfect combo 😂😁😂
Do you know if they will bring some of the new paints to Kontrast’24 in Warsaw?
I love your videos Marco and you have taught me a lot! I would love to own a miniature painted by you!! 😍🙏 how much do you charge for a commission?
No one deserves a Golden Demon more than you Marco!
I friggin love kimera, but this paints looks really really intresring
How do the new Midwork heavy body paints compare to the Scale 75 Artist you've used before?
Hi Marco. In your opinion, how would compare these to Kimera Kolors?
You won because of your awesome skills - the paints are just pigmented medium, you also would have won it with aquarel colours. Congrats!
Yeah, but how do they taste?
Well done! can you win golden demon using different makes of paints I mite have ago?
Surely they can't be any better than AP Fanatic paint , they are the best paints ever made and will always be the best . Well until they bring out another range that are better anyway
Ciao Marco, domanda secca, visto che attualmente uso quelli.
Come vedi questi colori rispetto agli scale artist? Sono simili, mi par di capire, come tipologia e visto che li hai usati (e apprezzati?) entrambi, a giudicare dai tuoi video sull’argomento, mi piacerebbe avere delle info in merito da parte tua.
You can't hype me up this much about paints this late into my painting career I already own too muuuuuuuuuuch D:
😂😂😂 I had to turn this into my job to have a valid excuse with the wife 😂😂😂
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM That's not a problem, Monsters like me are alone forever! My concern is that I have to be my own conscience, and I will judge myself for further expenditures 🤣🤣🤣
Uh, I think your supernatural understanding of light and volume helped a bit
😁😉😁😘😘😘
Which advantages do those paints offer against lets say, Kimera colors?
They come from similar ideas and aspirations for figure painting paints (I use them both!), but the main differences are that they are more dense, dry slower, don't separate, and have a more versatile finish
So now when I show people my World Eaters using the MONTANA Spray paints you showed I can say. Well the guy who showed me this is a Golden Demon winner.
So, how much will they cost?
How are these new paints compared to Kimera Kolors?
Similar soul and foundational idea, but they are more dense and creamy, slow drying (so very easy to blend), don't separate, and they have a more versatile finish
Me going into this video: cool but I don’t need new paints.
Me after watching this video: Maybe just this set.
3:58 these seem to contain white, but it's not on the label, any idea why that is?
Since Gamblin came up with its radiant line for oils, "radiant" has become kind of a synonym of "+ a bunch of white", so I think white it's implied (it's pretty obvious they contain white); but I'm curious to see the labelling of the final tubes! Also, next week at Kontrast I'll be able to interview Brom himself 🤩 so I'm going to ask him the reasons of these choices!
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Very much interested in his reasoning!
Hmmm heavy body tends to be awful to use I got them thinking they would be amazing and after reducing them they were awful.
Great review! One question, if I wanted to use them as a substitute for GSW or Vallejo type paints for 1/4 figures, I understand that you have to dilute them a little because they are very thick from the tube, but then do they leave the brush mark or do they level well?
Thank you!
As soon as you break their initial consistency with a bit of dilution they totally stop retaining brushstrokes and you can easily switch between different textural finishes (I play a lot with these effects!). Acrylic Gouache/SoFlat tend to self level more easily, but I like being able to switch and choose the behaviour!
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM The truth is that the soflats already give me enough problems to paint medium-sized surfaces and not have the brush marks visible. With Green Stuff World paints this problem does not exist, the paint remains perfectly leveled and there are no brush residues. If these Brom are more complicated than the soflat ones, I think they won't work for me, what a shame!
Once dry, they look slightly desaturated, or am I wrong?
😅 ok, it sounds like clickbait, but it's what truly happened! 😅 See you at the premiere 😘😘😘!
Marco, you could win a Golden Demon with craft paints.
Your such a bad influence on me Marco.. I want them
I am scared of buying these paints... they look sooooo freaking good.
It’s your hand not the paint you are amazing
😊 Thanks a million! But honestly, the paints kept me engaged and happy while dealing with glazing and hundreds of polishing passes 😅
These seem awesome. But, because of heavy they are, they seem like they would leave a lot of texture behind.
The point of heavy body paints is precisely the ability to choose the perfect consistency/fluidity for every situation! For sure they don't offer easy answers for beginners, but they open a bunch of possibilities to more experience painters
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Thanks for noting that 'easy answers for beginners' bit. I hope they have a lot of tutorial videos as they're doing their KS. There are some paints like Cuttlefish Colors and Kimeria that don't work like 'standard' acrlyics , and I think that more and ever more basic painting tutorials on how normal painters use them are needed.
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM That is a good point. I guess, I don't personally know how to apply coats with good coverage without leaving it too thick. Maybe its just a matter of practice.
So, if the paints made you won, it means anybody can ? it's not because of your talent ?
Paints have nothing to do with it. It's all talent.
Mannaggia adesso dovrò prenderli.... GRAZIE MILLE...... 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Clickbait? My reaction was something between "about time" and "no ***t".
Love the colours of my kimera paints, but they separate like crazy. I also just buy art paints. High quality or they are worse than bad hobby paints. When I was at art school you were kind of shamed if you brought expensive paint. Everyone was using cheap " student grade" $hit. Such a missed opportunity for learning about colour mixing! If you use cheap paint you pay with the hours of fighting to make the colours look good, and making the experience less rewarding. And you will not learn anything about colour mixing and relationships of colours on the colour wheel, as your cheap versions of the colour won't mix anywhere near to the art guides and books because of the b.s pigments which should not even be used by kids.
This! Precisely THIS! This is why I'm so happy for this trend of new products for figure painting! Thanks a million for sharing your experience 😊
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Thanks for taking miniature painting videos to the next level.
Hey folks, please click like whilst you're waiting
Ah Marco dont be so humble, you know damn well the tools dont make the artist. Im fairly convinced you could win a GD even just by using craft paints.
