You have to respect a company that actually takes criticisms to heart in an attempt to make a better product. It shows a level of goodwill to their customers that seems exceedingly rare these days, and I think Army Painter deserves a purchase or two in the future from this guy

And yet still no reviewers have done this. They are all sticking it over primer and saying “wow look how well it covers”. Like the vast majority of paint doesn’t already do this. I’m giving these fanatic paints a healthy dose of scepticism for now, until I see it for myself.

I'm so happy to hear Army Painter are releasing more reliable standard paints to go along with their excellent Air and Speed Paint ranges. The current warpaints aren't “bad” as such, just take a lot more effort to get them to work well. I really hope they keep the same price point too (or at least only a minimal increase) as it is one of their biggest selling points I think. Great quality paint, readily available and at a reasonable price, will put them ahead of the game for many hobbyists.

You make an excellent point about not wanting to mix up your own shades and having certainty of being able to come back to a colour months or years later to add more figures to the unit.
Consistency in their range has been a hallmark of Tamiya, Gunze etc. Also to a lesser extent Revell.
To me the worst transgressions in this area are from Games Workshop. Revamping their range, formulas, colours and names on a whim and leaving modellers struggling to find a formula that matches one of an earlier and now discontinued colour.

Also don't forget Army Painter tends to be cheaper than the competition.
Which is why I bought a set of Army Painter when I got back into painting after the pandemic (By then most my older GW paints were a huge mess, so I needed to restock a lot).
The old line works fine, for the price. If the Fanatic line can retain the same price, but have a more "modern" quality, that sounds amazing.
(I say "modern" quality, because back in the day that was sort of the quality of paints. They were all difficult to work with)

    • @dogtags2010
      @dogtags2010 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@dogtags2010 Probably. But, if they are on par with Vallejo in price, why would I choose this brand? (Unless it's not available)
So it would in my opinion stille need to be slightly cheaper than Vallejo and Citadel. Or significantly better. But then, if I'm painting on a budget I would pick Vallejo since it's good and cheap. (And the color range is great too)

I know this is an army painter "fanatic" video but you touched on their speed paints line saying that once you figured out a solution to using their dropper bottles their the only speed paints you use now. That prompted me to share my solution to that issue with you. I use a vortex mixer to really agitate the speed paints then rather than dropping a few drops into my pallet I remove the dropper nozzle cap from the speed paint bottle and dip my brush directly into the bottle. I have a holder for the bottle so I don't tip it over while doing this. This works for me as it eliminates any wasted paint being left on my pallet. Great video 👍!

I've been saving my money up since first hearing that Army Painter was working on this new line of paints.
I was very impressed with their Airbrush line of paints, especially due to the triad system. I also enjoy using them with a hand-held brush.
Then the SpeedPaints and SpeedPaint version 2 were released and it made painting so much less complicated for me.
Despite having their complete line of "regular" paints and washes, I will definitely be buying this new full line of Fanatic paints once it is released.
Their previous "regular" paint line will be saved for use in painting terrain that I build from kits or build DIY from repurposed junk I have collected.
There were other sets of paints that I was planning to purchase from other miniature paint companies, but this new Fanatic line from Army Painter has replaced them. Mostly do to how impressed I've been with their previously released paints.

My question is: how do they compare to ProAcryl? The way you describe is almost exactly the way I describe Monument’s paint and I’d love to see some comparisons both on the palette and coverage tests on models. If these compete with ProAcryl they could be huge, given the reach of AP.

I think that the number 1 problem with the Warpaints line is the extra medium in the bottle. A lot of people complain about the paint and it seems that many of them aren't pouring it off like they should. However, even when pouring it off, the paints are just... ok. Not bad paints but not as good as other lines. Hearing that the Fanatic paints don't have that medium is GREAT news! I asked TAP directly on facebook about it and they just responded with "more details coming soon", so thank you, Adam, for clarifying! The paints do look really good and I want the line ... but I have 300+ paints already and if I buy another set my wife may kill me. Still.... I may do it anyway. Great Video!

Some things I'd be interested in knowing:

-if they have 1:1 color matches for popular options from their competitors (Mephiston Red, Calgar Blue, etc.) and other popular colors (sunny skin tone, Payne's Gray, ice yellow, glacier blue, hull red, burnt umber, pale sand)
-how the white compares to everyone's favorite, Pro Acryl
-how do the above alternatives feel/apply compared to the original choices

I have yet to hear a bad review of the new line of Fanatic Paints, and have already pre-ordered the entire set ready for its release in March next year (2024). I love the air brush paints from Army Painter, as I use their metallics for fine line super shine highlights on armour/chipping, but have had similar problems with their regular line of paints when using them on a wet palette. When I had far more time than sense, I got into the full Reaper line of paints. I do like them but they like, many lines have their issues. The coverage across the line, you got to like a thin paint to start with, and the separation over time were a few things that I slowly began to not like. My collection is getting to the point where even the labels are fading and it's getting hard to read the names and numbers on the bottle. I'm not a huge mixer nor could or would I call myself a "serious" mini painter.
I did pick up the speed paints. They're really good and I use them a lot. However, because of the past reviews of the TAP paint line I never made the jump to them vs REAPER. Admittedly this new FANATIC line has me interested to get back into spending more time at the painting table. The number of colors, its organization, coverage, and everything I'm hearing does make me want to pick this one up. If I do, I'll likely find someone local who could make use of my REAPER paints.
Side note: TAP has been around for a while and what I find impressive is that they seem to not be resting on their laurels.

I’ve come back to the hobby after years of inactivity and paint mostly board game figures - I was getting tired of looking at plain grey minis on the table. 😊 I started back with AP Speed Paint 1 and then 2.0 and have had some success with both, though I still have a lot to learn.
    I have two questions:
    1. Why would I want an entire line of these acrylic paints when I already have speed paints? What do the Fanatic paints bring to the table that I’m missing with Speed Paints?
    2. If I do get some (or all) of the Fanatic paints would you recommend getting the Army Painter Airbrush paints as well? Or could I use the SP 2.0 in the airbrush or the Fanatic paints? I hear that the Fanatic paints do quite well in an airbrush.

Glad to see them finally fix their paints. I like Army Painter as a brand (great primers, great dips, great washes, great tufts...poor paints). So it'll be nice to see another option. I admit I'm a full AK interactive guy (with my old Vallejos filling the gap) so I don't know if I have any need to pursue buying an Army Painter paint. However, they do have a rack at the local game store, so perhaps having an option nearby in an emergency will be nice.

The "creamyness" is what keeps me using Coat d' Arms paints for as long as I have. That's even though they're impossible to find easily in the US. But, some of their paints like yellow and their metallics blow, so I am VERY excited about these new paints.

I also don’t typically mix paints. It’s hard, to impossible, to be consistent with the colors, so everything turns out bespoke. Also, if you do want to create color “recipes”, you need to use more than I like (x number of drops of each). I’m so cheap I squeak, and I don’t like wasting paint, so I’m shooting for using as little as I can get away with, so that doesn’t work well for me. Therefore, I really like out of the bottle colors, so I’m excited by the new line. Of course I’ve already got a lot of paint (about half army painter), which naturally I can’t waste, so it will be a while before a I splurge on more.

where I live individual warpaints are more expesive than vallejo game color, so I just never considered using them, but speedpaints on the other hand are just awesome, cheaper than contrasts, dropper bottle and what I personally like they reactivate, which allows for cool color gradients and you know, they just work

I am looking forward to these, pretty much my entire collection of paint is made up of army painter, aside from 3 sets of army colours for different countries from vallejo (Which I find separate extremely fast) I have about 4 citadel pots, 2 of which are cracking ground effects, agrax earthshade, nuln oil and some lamia medium. I have found the original warpaints are a bit hit or miss, some thick some runny, some break faster than others but still overall happy. I still might branch out into other lines to experiment but so far very happy with my majority being Army Painter.

Last year when I worked at Walmart and thought the fidget poppers would make great paint pallets I never bought one due to not finding any of a decent shape or color to actually want to use - now there is a local hobby store in my area that carries a silicone pallet that is much thicker yet flexible and available in black and white versions. I believe it's supplied by TurboDork and it's a little pricey ($15 for the 6 - spot) but it should stay put on the tabletop and I am saving up for that to try out

  • @zachhughes9149

I got lucky when I started with Tamiya and Mr Hobby paints for airbrushing and will probably never use anything else to spray. For instance, when I got into 40k and saw people complaining about yellow not covering and white separating, I had no idea what they were talking about, because Tamiya and Mr Hobby don’t have those issues at all. And I view thinning them as a nice extra option that simultaneously gives me more paint.
But Army Painter has always been the easiest to find and I’ve yet to find brush paints that compare to my airbrush paints, so these are probably what I’ll get next time I restock, along with their contrast paints they released not too long ago.

Just bought the Mega paint pack, with the Paint station and Character brush in it, really great value, and i've only painted with my friends before, and they used citadel, and wanted me to go for that.. but i really liked the dropper bottle's, and been eye'ing them for years, then i saw the vidoes of them trying to improve the paints and stuff, and i was like i'm gonna hold out.. and kinda forgot a bit, but now i'm happy i got the Mega paint pack, painted my first mini alone, and it's been good fun, a lot of progress to be made, but it's nice to have a paint that does what you think it should.
