46yr old brand new hobbyist here. Accidentally stumbled on this video and then went down the NJM rabbit hole because I had no idea what he was talking about regarding color theory in this video. I’ve painted a total of 20 models using the GW way and now i will be emptying my brain and starting over thanks to this channel. I realize I want to learn about art through minis, instead of just “how to paint blood angels”. Howdy from Texas Marco.
A fun exercise in being clean and sharp without betraying my artistic believes 😉and the proof that a style is not made by a workflow but by a clear vision of what you want to obtain! See you later at the premiere and on Twitch immediately after to keep the chats going!!! 😁 www.twitch.tv/marcofrisoninjm Have a lovely day!!! 😘
Oh King of Fastness, Marquis of Mobility, The Sutan of Speed, Our Baron of Brisky Briskness, Please continue teaching us air brush/brush nimbility also, great to have regular videos again Cheers
Painting my dark angels and I stumbled upon your channel. I wished I found it earlier before starting. This looks so good! Its like listening to The Count von Count teach me airbrushing
I really love listening you wax on poetic about the process. If you're up to paint another Dark Angel, you might want to try going for Azrael. However there is way more "robe space" on that one so perhaps not a fair comparison.
GW doesn't do the 'Eavy Metal look because they can't paint with a more artistic approach; some of their top end painters are artists through and through. It's about timeliness, how it photographs in 360 degrees of view for 2-dimensional shots where no one detail is the center of focus, and fits the "basics" of a color scheme that is easier for novice painters to replicate. It has a purpose.
Marco, scusa, ho iniziato anche io il modello, nelle lumeggiature usi dei colori di the army painter, ma non sono ancora usciti in commercio per noi mortali! Che altrenative posso usare? Grazie!
By the way, I would be very cursious of you making something like "neon vibe" or "synthe vib", just by increasing the amazing colors you put on the airbrush. So, basically, you don't with normal color scheme after all the preparation with the airbrush, but goes crazy. With your skills and the understanding of the color theory you always display, I'm sure it would be amazing
This is amazing! I'm still a poor that can't afford an army and painting has been the other daunting part, but the airbrush really streamlines everything. The people that hate on it are just jealous because it's great results for less work. But that's another great thing about the hobby, you can go as easy or heavy as you want, it's your army.
Hey Marco, your work is insanly good. I like your understanding for colours and your videos give me the perfect entry to the world of airbrush. Thanks a lot. Keep up the artistic way of life.
That shield is a stunning piece in itself and the cloak is so lovely inside and out. I was right, whatever the sculpt Marco is brings insight and understanding of genuinely remarkable and striking pieces and the processes he uses and why. Yes he has a masterly command of his brush and airbrush but mask up for the airbrush to help match his precision and practice, practice, practice with that brush
00:49 you can do it Marco, I believe in you! Ps just to let you know, the prep work on the LotR mini was great content. I love seeing that part of the project probably more than the final touches.

Wouahhhhhh !!!!!! Magnifico !!!!! Bravo !!! bravo !!! ..... may be i will have the same result after 5-6 lifes or more of painting training :) .... Thanks for this beautiful sharing Marco :)
Signore! I have to say, I really like how the model looked right before you started airbrushing the final step with white. In a way it reminded me of an Adrian Smith artwork, with whom you certainly are familiar. A lot of very flat, yet colourful blocks with only minimal shading, truly, just wonderfull. It's outright bewildering to me that you would call that an ugly phase :D BTW I'm not sure I would qualify this miniature as 'eavy Metal at all to be truthfull, for me that style is defined not only by cleanliness and excessive edge highlights, but also by the minimalistic use of volumetric highlights and painted texture, both of which your artistic soul will never allow you to do ;)
If it didn't have a negative impact on your channel I would thumbs down this video so hard. Not because I don't like it, but because it looks so incredible and I will never have the skills to pull this off. Fantastic video & fantastic take on one of my favourite models!
Hello Marco thanks for all this source of inspiration. I was just wondering how do you make sure the liquitex you are airbrushing does not reactivate and does stick on the model properly.
Hey Marco. Your videos are really great! I am looking to apply your concept over Uruk Hai warriors models. But they are quite black armor. How would you proceed? Grey airbrush, dark metal airbrush and oil wash?
So I'm curious how the later stages of this process would differ if you were highlighting the the golds and silvers with metallic paints? I'm also curious if you ever work with using a florescent base coat in to make a chromatic black, for instance on say a blood angel or word bearer prime white spray florescent green zenithal gray with white highlights and then spray on a transparent red? If so what are some of the technical pitfalls and if not is there a specific reason or does it just not work?
Sorry to bother you Marco but what would be an Italian equivalent for white spirit? I just recently started my journey on painting with oil on my minis and im having an hard time finding an equivalent to dilute the colors. Currently I bought Essenza di Trementina but it seems like Acquaragia would be better, what do you suggest?
Superb. Thanks for another excellent tutorial. Really makes me want to build my Lion! I'll get there eventually and will come back to this video when I do! It'll still be here in 10,000 years, right...?🤔
Paint a Lord of Change please. It’s always been one of my favourite models. There are absolutely incredible paint schemes of it around. I’d like to see your speed paint style of Oil washes applied to it.
First time viewer. I thought the intro said "not just make-up" I'm thinking... this looks professional level... the make-up job must pay really well! 🤔😅
Can confirm. Owning an airbrush does not make you a master painter. See my 2 years of airbrushing experience that has me at the level of maybe almost consistently getting decent volumes with the thing.
@marcofrisoninjm i have an urgent question that i really need to find out the answer badly, its about applying oil paint over acrylic paints i saw in one of your video teaching us to applying a layer of oil paints all over acrylic painted models to provide a level of depth as a no brainer, i really wanna try this skill! however for the several times i tried, when im gently rubbing off the oil paints, the acylic paint comes off together 😭😭😭😭 any tips on how to do this well?? 😭😭
Ciao Marco! Complimenti come sempre per l’entusiasmante lavoro! Ho una domanda: quale è il processo decisionale che ti fa decidere per una luce bianca zenitale con gli ink o passare direttamente ai mezzi toni come in questo caso? Potresti comunque fare entrambi i passaggi? Ciaooo grazie!

Your ugly phase looks better than many finished models painted by us mere mortals
That's a fact!
I need you to take my airbrush hand and guide me like Patrick Swayze in Ghost to accomplish this! 🤣
I thought the same. His understanding for colours is so insane and he airbrush it like a machine :D
AAHAHAHAHAHHAHA I actually pictured it hahaha. Seriously though his airbrush chops are incredible.
😂😂😂😂
The Eavy Metal team definitely DO use airbrushes. :)
We didnt get any videos for 5 months and here you are dropping 2 in 2 weeks, thank you!!! i love this paintjob

this is the level of painted characters I would like to have some day. This is definitely one of the top 5 painted Lions I have seen so far
Absolutely love the technique and the color theory. 100% want more of these. Makes it seem like anyone can achieve these results
only tutorials worth watching, i learn so much about actual artistry. thank you so much marco. I redid your Abaddon and I am so proud. Lion is next
That Abaddon video is great. Congratulations on getting it finished!
Incredible. I love the thought of using thicker paint later on in the process. I never imagined using gouache for mini painting before.
Just to note - it's acrylic gauche used here. (Not the watercolour one)
@@Jamgeoso Thanks for clarifying this. I was struggling to comprehend the coverage of it.

Painting The Lion fully assembled, absolute madman 🔥
Aside from the execution, what is really mind boggling is the design of the process

New painting goal unlocked for the Lion: This. 🤯🔥🔥
painting technics/tricks along with the brilliant script - I always super enjoy your videos
beautiful model marco, and thank you for your annotations of the process. many fun tings to learn!
Holly sh... dude, i'm gonna change the way i use my airbrush....... That's an amazing, amazing paint job
Me after watching Marco , I need to use my airbrush more 🧐

Brilliant paint job!
Thats a really cool way to do nmm, i wonder if its possible to do it for a full nmm scheme
Fantastic ... something to be inspired by and aspire to.
I would love to see how you would tackle a 40k vehicle. Like a tank, bike, or dreadnought.

What do you recommend for a preshade for a midnight blue armor a la night lords? A purplish blue.
God this is just stunning
