- Pokemon generation 1 was chock full of content that was cut from the game. Everything including a Professor Oak Battle, Unused Music, 39 Cut Pokemon, and Removed Badges. In this episode we these cut material that came from leaks, cut concepts, and data mining the game.

My favorite version of the three gen one games is Pokemon yellow in my favorite Battle theme was the champion
Just a bit of info, the unused track from Pokémon Yellow has been typically called the "Hurry, get away!" theme, due to people finding out that it was tied to the moment when the same text was displayed on screen. Just letting you know.
The ????? item is a surfboard, I think it has something to do with Pokemon Yellow and pikachu minigame

That bit with the stereo music is actually really cool. Such an inventive way to utilize having two connected devices together.
Indeed, and I think the only reason they may have not done it is cause the Gameboy speakers weren't very loud or good so it might lost out what it could have been

The cut Pokemon Yellow song is named M_SAKAKI in the leaked source code. So yeah, it was something related to Giovanni (named Sakaki in Japanese), possibly a dedicated encounter theme, like the one for Jesse and James

I still feel that come Gen 6 they could have remodeled Gorochu and passed it off as Raichu`s Mega Evolution.
Honestly should do that if they ever go back to Mega Evolutions again
During the alpha and beta stages, the was no team rocket. Instead, the Siph Co. was a corrupt organization that performed experiments on Pokemon. The Silph Chief had the sprite is Blaine, with Blaine himself looking more like his concept art. The chief would flee into the safari zone, were upon defeat he would give you the surf 'BOARD' item (that's the one with the question marks.) Jessie and James (or the characters that would become them) where originally Silph employees, so was Professor Oak (he even had a battle programmed into the game.) They went quite far, at one point taking over a cruise ship (which in the final game is what became of the S.S. Anne. If you play through this portion with that in mind, you'll start to notice something missing, as if there was more to it than just being on a boat and leaving just before it departs.) The sprites used for team rocket grunts were originally Thugs/Burglars roaming the streets of Shinjuku and Tokyo (Celadon and Saffron.) When Nintendo requested GameFreak to tone down the theme to aim for a younger demographic, massive changes were made, and things like the whips and thugs/homeless on the streets were removed from the game. The first gym leader was aged up and became Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, replacing Siph Co as the evil team.
Also, the unused theme from Pokemon yellow has nothing to do with the fact that it only is in Yellow's file, as it dates back to around 1993. It was likely the theme played during some sort of invasion like the Team Rocket takeover of Saffron.
That would make sense really. As far as i've seen, them working together is as far as we know, but I wouldn't be surprised if Silph Co was on its own originally before they introduced a second element that is Team Rocket into it.

Gorochu was such a missed opportunity. It looks so cool. Maybe if they bring megas back and give Raichu a mega, they'll use Gorochu as a mega?

Which means it's likely his encounter theme

This is so depressing they started off nearly breaking the system to fill it to the brink with content and now they're just breaking our hearts with their lack of effort...
Honestly it shows that because they had as much time as they needed, GameFreak did go all out. Nowadays the Pokemon Company gives them a strict short timelimit, so they don't even have time to go all out like they use to back then.

@@ssjgotenks2009 Half of that went over my head. Not because I’m ignorant, but because it was so poorly typed it makes a dyslexic chimpanzee look like Shakespeare in comparison.
When it said the man said they would just "save the designs for later", it's true. Like the squid became a real pokemon. They changed the tiger into Raikou or Incinerorar. And the lizard looks like Sobbel or that electric lizard (forgot the name)
You forgot the unused field move “ground rose up somewhere “ and the unused gym leader
The gen 1 trainers sometimes have whips because the idea of trainers doing fighting when out of Pokémon was cut.
There’s also a line of text referencing Pokémon “Pink” that may be a never made game after they cut Clefairy as mascot. Think it was in Yellow.
I think there’s also a couple cut trades that were odd because the Pokémon wanted was identical to what the npc had. Mew for mew for one.
And of course the bird type.
I think the mecha Godzilla made it in as Mecha Tyranitar at Pokestar studios in B2W2

If you trade the 39 missingnos to Gen 2 they become certain Johto Pokemon. It's truly fascinating.
Yeah that would make sense as it would line up with the same slots of the dex in Gen 2

As am I. Gen 2 Cut Content (wayyy before the SpaceWorld demo leak) was what influenced me originally to get me into Cut Content research too, so it's a good trip back.

Wanted to point this out in the original video but in the anime the kids ride the ship which sinks they actually end up on an island afterwards. The episodes called the island of giant Pokémon or something like that
Makes one wonder if the anime was making a reference to the cut island.

The badge listed in the bottom left corner at 2:34 isn't named "Ksitigarbha Badge," but rather "Grandfather Badge" (translated from おじぞう ).

@@shrgnatlas Because of how huge SM64 was I need a more natural transition, so the plan to go into Zelda since that is the obvious natural transition for 1000 subscribers I got as of later cause of it, but because of how huge Zelda is and can't be done in only a few episodes, Pokemon Gen 2 is going to be done part way inbetween episodes too. Basically I think i'll be going back and forth between Zelda and Pokemon here.
ojizo is a buddhist statue that is said to protect travelers (just do a google image search of ojizo)...... I think you're mixing it up with the word ojii-san (grandfather)

I listened to this with stereo headphones. The unused stereo trading jingle really sounds nice! I'm not used to hear 8bit music in stereo, so this had an interesting effect on me, a fusion of nostalgia and modern feeling. Clearly it would have been an experience listening to two linked Gameboys singing a duet :D
All Game Boy music was in stereo (well, maybe some games didn't take advantage of it, but I wouldn't know). That's why the screen has it listed. You just need headphones. :P
That's one thing I love about the GB sound chip over the NES'.

This one is a theory, but plausible
The best part about that trade music? The romhacker Koolboyman (who is almost wholly responsible for mapping the Western gen 1 roms) made a recreation years ago based on the version he found (or he was the first to go public with it). And it sounds a lot like the version found in the Spaceworld leak.

Same unused theme for pokemon yellow also can be found in format for GSC sound engine so maybe this track once planned to be reused in gold/silver and crystal

It means something like "earth womb" so it was probably just an Earth Pokemon badge.
There is a Pokemon hack game called Pokemon Rocket Red. In it, you fight Professor Oak as the final boss after you defeat Red.

It's kind of a short theme for a cave and the cave even had its own theme already, so I would theorize it would be for a newer element

Yes the GB had stereo when headphones were plugged in, but when not plugged in, it was a mixed down mono through the GB speaker. The effect of this was meant to as such go through 2 GBs during the trading process

2:34 is a term of Buddhism, so it was probably a fighting type gym
After a small bit of research the ksitigarbha badge is a reference to Buddhist beliefs.
Ksitigarbha is a bodhisattva monk who looks over children, travellers and the underworld
Probably the badge itself got removed, but the gym was reworked into the Sprout Tower sage battles

"ksitigarbha badge" ... Whoever translated that can not read hiragana... It says "ojizou badge".....
I wonder what the Leaf sprite would have been used for. It's probably another rival for Red. Pokemon Gold and Silver Version did not ask the player if he/she is a boy or girl, then again it could have been planned for that game.
Well I did make a newer video later regarding Beta Character Designs which did showcase a sprite of Leaf/Green that looked to be playable.
@@TheObsessiveGamer I think Lyra was going to be the female playable character in Gold and Silver Version, and a bit of proof was her being playable in HeartGold and SoulSilver Version, although it's not good enough proof, so Kris was made as a female playable character in Crystal Version. I did read about Lyra being planned as a female playable character for Crystal Version. I kind of did like Kris better.

There are 6 blurred sprites. those are blurred cause we don't know what Pokemon they are. Still a mystery

There is also the code for Ho-oh on pokemon red, which if captured becomes Missingno
There is no code like that lol Games been datamined and no sign of Ho-Oh anywhere

@@TheObsessiveGamer yeah, it is very likely only a coincidence. There is the "mistery" regarding Ho-oh appearence on the first episode of the anime though, nearly 2 years before the release of pokemon Gold.

If you listen to the video, it's talking about how future Pokemon games introduced Champions that appear throughout the story and work alongside the hero. Cynthia and Steven for example

It sounded like it was specifically about the Professor being the champion and the champion using the third starter. Blue is already a champion who appears throughout the story, while Prof. Oak never really leaves his lab during the story. Needless to say, I was very confused by that part of the video, but I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
@@ender7278 It was a theory as I also mentioned in the video that the Professor could have been the champion, not fact. In that instance if he was, Blue wouldn't be the champion. The idea is that if this was true, the story would have been different and as many development cycles go, that is exactly the case and this game has proven to have had story changes too.

None of the sprites that I showed were fanmade. These were all either leaked from older builds of the game as provided by the Helix Chamber, or were datamined from the existing game. All of these were very much official pieces of sprites that shouldn't affect any fan made hacks as they already are available all over the place and not ripped from any specific hacks for this video.
