Wonderful reminder of the good old days! I have a 6 hp Evinrude I bought new in 1972 and just had it rebuilt by a local mechanic! It pushes my old Jon boat pretty good! Enjoy your videos!
Ohhh - that brings back great memories! My grandfather had the same model year Johnson 18 on a 14' deep vee starcraft aluminum boat. As I kid, gramps would give me a couple bucks for gas at the marina and I would be out on the lake from morning until dinner time. A 100# kid with ball cap turned backward, I thought I was piloting an offshore racing boat. Thanks for the video. BTW - I still have his Johnson DT40 (1939) that he purchased new and it still looks and runs like a new one! It stopped pumping water, so until I get that problem solved, it just looks good on the stand :)
I also have a cowling - '58 Johnson 18 - with a gap between the front and back halves on the left side, exactly like the one in this video. I wonder what causes it? I tried bending the latch some to pull the two halves closer together when snapped shut. It may have helped a little, but the gap is still there. Those latches are hard to bend. Thank you for a great video.
t-mike great video. You do some great work. I bought some used coils and spark plugs wires and they are great also! From your experience, what is a good compression that indicates the motor can run healthy on the smaller HP(less than 10hp) johnsons 1960-1980's. I'm seeing around 80 with it decreasing when hot.
I have a question my 1952 Johnson seahorse 10hp it goes into drive no problem but when I shift to neutral it's still in gear if I shift to reverse it's in neutral then shift to neutral it stays in neutral but not getting any reverse what could be causing this?
@@michaeljsimon ty so much I appreciate it your vids teach me so much that's the last issue then I can do paint and decals watching all the way from Hamilton Ontario Canada

Great video...there's nothing that can be more rewarding than bringing an old motor back to its full potential!!!
Shes s fire cracker 🎉
Not quite restored though. I see it has been converted to a single fuel line.
It sure is a beautiful motor though!
