Jason, you need to reach out to Cleetus McFarland and help him Rescue his Falcon Jet that he got a "deal" on. Cleetus would be a great crossover for the Rebuild channel.
When you run MercCruiser engines with outdrives, you should always lower the drive unit to reduce stress on the universal joint, especially when you test the gears. Good luck.
You need muffs on the out drive to keep from melting the impellar which is dry rotted any way but do what other guy said to lower your drive down as far as you can .
I like ALL the content. As a boat owner, I have a few suggestions. ALWAYS lower the drive when you run it (the driveshaft u joints will thank you) and never run the thing without water and muffs on the drive. The sea water pump wont last 5 seconds running dry. You can put a new impeller in it, but if you torch it, you will be replacing the whole thing. At the very least, slip the drive belt off and just run it for a minute before it overheats. Good luck!
I think "Bought site unseen" Should be the new slogan for Rebuild Rescue! I will always be here to support the great things this channel does! Love the content so much!
Fabulous video guys ! I recall shipping over a 96hrs Chaparral 240 signature to the UK sight unseen. A 'national liquidators drive snatch'. No key or paperwork. The relief of hearing that v8 burst into life ... utter joy ! 😊 ... 🇬🇧
Main reason so many are allowed to sit and rot away is because the owners are greedy asking for outrageous prices and would rather let them sit and rot instead of selling to someone who will take care and use them at reasonable prices.
@@MsKinnara Give me a break. Many people fall on hard times, and trying to recover, their boat or plane sits. Before long your assets sit in ruin and the owner has lost all ambition to fix them even though they are sentimental and attached to them. So tired of this "greed" argument.
Thank you Jason, and the rest of your great team. I thoroughly enjoyed this video, Hearing the engine fire up after your squirted easy start into the carb. Really gets your hope up, and I couldn't wait for you to actually start it. I'm looking forward to seeing the boat gleaming like new.
16:45 "This thing" that looks like an air filter is a spark arrester. It keeps a flaming backfire from blowing up the engine compartment, which could be full of gas fumes. The fins can easily cut fingers !! It needs to be cleaned so carb gets air, just like an air filter.
I just love your channel! I’m completely non-mechanical, and watching you work on these projects is absolutely fascinating to me. And your wonderful upbeat attitudes and great sense of humor are infectious!
Awesome, Jason. I purchased a used sailboat. Had a new water impeller installed at the marina. It worked fabulous. Motor ran with no issues on Lake michigan.
One that would be a neat boat..... wish I had one. Anyway. Jason for fuelling like that. For the big mouth jug, go to fleetfarm and buy your self a 4AA battery power pump that screws right on the jug. Then all you do is put the nozzle in the hole and press the button then walk away. It also has and autostop when it's full. When I got mine for racing it was $70
Awesome job getting it running. Don't forget to check the lower unit gear oil, and probably replace it. Can't wait to see it cleaned up and on the water!
Great work on getting it started and it looks to be good. Just a suggestion is to lower the stern drive when you have the water muffs on it, by lowering the stern drive it relieves the pressure on the bellows on the stern drive. A good clean up will make it look great
Just so you know for future, never run boat when the outdrive is totally trimmed up, never run in without water because impeller gets instantly burnt. Also what i suggest you to do because boat has been sitting for very long time to reolace or rebuild starter and alternator, replace central bearing which is in transom, bellow for u joints and hose which supplies outdrive with oil so you won't get water inside the boat or outdrive. That was heck of a deal, only outdrive and trailer already cover price of the whole boat, im pretty much sure when you get it all cleaned up and polished that it could be worth 20k+
I bought 2 of these boats (23 and 26 foot) 1 was 403.00 and 1 was 270.00. They both run excellent and they are cleaning up very well. They will be beautiful boats when we are done. Can't wait to get em out on the water. The only problem we are having is the paperwork issues. So I understand why you enjoy what you do, I share the same interest. Keep doing what you're doing, it's an awesome feeling when a project is all completed and you know it was your hard work that done it !!!
So glad you got it running! Get it cleaned up, fueled up & take it to the lake for a weekend. You got to test it out. Right? Then go on with your plan for it ❤
I'm an airplane and a boat guy so I love the channel. I'm a retired airplane mechanic and I really miss troubleshooting and turning wrenches on aircraft. Good thing I have a boat which keeps me busy! My boat has the Mercruiser 5.0. These motors are really bullet proof if they're maintained. Good job figuring out the fuel delivery issue. Looking forward to seeing this thing in the water soon.
Don't accelerate while the stern drive is up because you will break the cross bearings also check your exhaust manifolds and the power trim I am a boat mechanic and I also have the same boat with a 8.1 merqruiser, it's a very good boat and you got a great deal
Also check the bellows on the outdrive.... you don't want to get that in the water and have it sink because the outdrive bellows are old, cracked and letting water rush into the engine compartment.
Congratulations; this was a great episode and you guys really are great! I can't wait to see the boat in the water. Also all the best with the 401 project.
Great job getting the old boat going. I just recently did one myself on a 1988 19 ft. Do them U-joints a favor and lower your lower unit a bit too much at an angle. Gimbal bearing will thank you for it euphoric
My wife, who loves to supervise my projects, just asked me why you guys don’t put the Bimini top up so you can work in the shade? Sometimes she’s brilliant, sometimes she’s a PITT.
Boat Parts, Jason, I have a ton of engine parts for a 350, pulleys, belts, Brackets, exhaust manifolds , and a fuel injection system all from a 2000 mercruser I ever have a trim tab setup for that size boat
Can't wait to see that boat all cleaned up. Please do not wet sand it. I know some amazing compounds that will bring the finished back to life. I used it restore an abandoned sailboat. Thank you for another great start to a Saturday. Be safe guys.
Get a pressure washer, some upholstery shop work, some vinyl repair, and some bottom paint for the video next week. :) I wonder if 10 gallons of fuel wasn’t enough to even move the fuel gauge needle? Is there a sun shade kit for this boat? It would be nice to see this boat out on the ICW or the Atlantic Ocean. Check the lights and get a coast guard inspection too.
I remember there were hundreds (thousands) of those warehouse businesses all over Ft. Lauderdale back then. My first job ('70) was as a mechanic in one, working on heavy trucks and equipment. A speed shop in the one next door and a boat builder across the alley and three doors down. Typical rent/month in '70 for 30 x 40 w/12' overhead door was ~$35-$40/mo. - whole unit, not per s/f (concrete block & stucco - 'CBS', steel rafter ceiling.) 100 x 30 w/16'H door & 18-20' pre-stressed concrete roof (hurricane proof) was around $120-$140. I live in Louisville now and there is only one similar place like it (that I can find) and I've been on the waiting list there since 2015. Everything else is huge and/or over $4k/mo. It's tough for start-ups these days.
You pretty much STOLE that boat. Hope you can flip it real quick and use that money to get that 401 back in the air! Can't wait to see that plane painted.

Awesome Rescue Jason! That was one heck of a SWEET deal! Some cleaning and buffing and you have a beautiful boat to either keep for yourself or sell and make one HANDSOME profit!!!
Injector - my convertible developed a no start - it could be a 2 minute sit or an hour or more. Repairs shops were really outstanding they put the computer recorder in and one place said they did a ton but got nowhere so they did not charge. A blog told me some cars a little circuit that controls the starting process can fail - and the test was that on this car the fuel system and servos should start BEFORE it tries to turn over - so I just recalled those sounds. Repair shop doing oil said worth a try at like $28 for the part - and after like 4 years it fixed the issue.
G,day from Sydney Australia. Need new multimeter probes, and while there get a cheap "power probe" you can apply 12v to a plug or connection to determine "function or fault." Great wrenching in a confined space. 🌏🇦🇺

hey ypu gotta get those "behh-meen-ee" tops going with the bumpers and bathrooms! this is a car guy looking over a boat. so funny his terminology but awesome hes branching out! great deal if you like these sorts of boats.
We’ve been waiting on a title for it. Having to jump through some hoops has been daunting to say the least. We should have one soon and can continue getting it ready for the water
The plastic through hole fittings are most likely brittle and may break off. Do yourself a favor and replace those. Make sure the bilge pump works before you get in the water. I can’t wait to see you water test it. That front engine mount looks rough.
I've had worse showers than that. Looks like a bit of love and you have a gem. Do you have a start button - the red one maybe. ?? one battery looks like options and the other the engine. Fuel pump - put in an inline electric and forget the mechanical. (see now not land based) Not going to fall out of the sky if it fails. I did that on my Chevy 350 Station wagon.
I rescued a Chaparral 2150SX one time and used it as a test bed for developing an engine repower program.. LS based engines in it., even a duramax.. Chaparral makes great boats.. beefy and strong.. depending on how much you end up spending on the clean up and rehab.. that's an old boat and will need a lot of replacement parts right away.. things you see and think, its just this or that.. then the things you don't see that you'll encounter soon.. it all adds up quick to surpass the overall value.. i don't think you stole it at all.. if anything, you are in it slightly high.. but, if it will clean up good.. a quick flip before it start breaking.. you might be ok.. but the age, and sitting all these years is going to mean a lot of replacing parts soon.. just the cleanup is going to be a chore.. with the trailer, you did ok.. but the poor guy who buys it from you is going to feel the pain of old boat ownership... the next 50 hours will be costly.. that good deal will evaporate quickly as she catches up with time..
Dual prop is helpful for the large size boat. All marine engine manufacturers tell owners to change oils and other fluids before storing. However old engine oil has lost its protection package and should be replaced.
Great content! 20 years here as a licensed yacht broker in salty Florida. Seen this many times in real life. I grew up in Damascus MD. Probably know the owners of this vessel. Thanks for sharing!
WOWWW, what a deal, and it finally runs. I always tell my wife, I'd never buy a boat, BUT, today after seeing this and one other video where a guy buys an old 70 foot luxery yaht in really good condition, ya never know....NO, I'm 81 and not near any water! But my mind says its something to think about, anyway....LOL. Be safe alwaays, from the Philippines.
Jason make sure when your testing the drive that you lower it as fa down as you can. If you can all the way down is best so you get the best driveshaft angle. Te straighter the better for the driveshaft and gimbal bearing.
Shouldve pulled the plugs and checked if u can rotate by hand or bar. And check carby and fuel lines try drain as much old fuel as u can. Before just going for a full start attempt straight of the bat

I agree with not running the engine with the lower unit in the up position. The u-joint can be replaced, but why?
Took the words out of my mouth lower the drive
Also, if you are new like I was and you see the lower drive 'bucking' as the seller is cranking it over that's a clue the joints are bad/seized.

Fuel tank probably needs a new sending unit to properly show fuel levels. Great content!
"I think I'll just start working on bicycles"....... lol not nearly as much fun to watch 🤣🤣
I have learnt a lot about aircraft and seacraft. It's been interesting to watch and learn at the same time.
Thank you for watching !
As a inboard boat owner working on engines below deck it is a lesson in gymnastic and part Gumby mechanic
The old saying is,the happiest day of a boat owner is the day he buys his boat and the day he sells it ...😂
Great deal guys 👍. That's a sweet boat 🤩 enjoy.
Thanks for watching Bob!
That looks a lovely boat, what a winner.
land sea or air, rebuild rescue has its projects. all interesting. thanks for sharing
We appreciate that Larry, thank you for being here with us
Is that really Joe? I hardly recognised him.
Man, he's looking good!
How about a wrench on the crank pulley. Before cranking I use a old screw driver to jump starter to see if it is bad or a remote switch if
It’s always best to have trim down before starting. It keeps universal joints in line and less vibration
I'd like to see you take that dry ice blaster to the engine compartment.
