Thanks for the help and with this video, I now understand what you meant with the explanation of the needle valve adjustment and the lockdown nut. I've been watching your videos all day on my 65" TV. I need to go back and like the ones I watched. I may be ordering parts from your website as I tear down that motor, may do a complete restore after seeing all the info available on your channel.

Love the 9.5's, but hate working on them!

I got mine out similarly but without upturning the entire motor, you need some angle iron and cable clamps and some bolts/nuts.

Mine are riveted on, on my 1968 mercury 9.8, so no adjustment. I’m trying to figure out why my original coil, points and condenser work on the bottom cylinder, but my new coil, points and condenser don’t make spark on the upper. Driving me insane!

I have a very good question. What if my old tank is not full, I want to top it off from the gas from a different gas jug, not mixed yet because I don’t store my gas oil mixed. Ok, 6 gallon tank, I have a little under a half tank left, I’m going to top my tank off, I know it will take more than 3 gallons and less than 4. Would it be ok to guess anywhere between the 3 and 4 gallon marks on the measuring bottle? If I’m a little less on my guessing will it hurt my engine being off by maybe an oz? I know what over mixing will do, keeps the skeeters away.

My buddy has a Mercury only about 10 years old and every time we take that damn thing to the lake we have to mess with it never wants to start I have a 40-year-old Evinrude that starts every damn time

Bonjour mon ami, I also have a 6 hp Evinrude of the same vintage that seems to have a carburation problem. Did everything on it from carb kit to leaf valves. It's back to the (heated) basement for winter and I'll go through all the tests once again but if it still won't go, I'll sure will give you a call. Thanks for the great videos. I bought a honytech meter, $30 on ebay, It gave no readings on any settings, just a bad meter. I have been 10 days trying to get an replacement exchange. These folks are in china, they sent a generic note that started with dear and offered me $8. I hope others don't get a bad one, cause you may be screwed.

Being a mechanic with 50+ years on the job I am very surprised you did not lube each of the seals before installing the shafts, this is very important in order to prevent damage to the seal and wear on the shafts

Hi Mike, well that was an unexpected twist. I have a ‘72 4hp Johnson that runs but lately is hard to start. I don’t have a timing tool and set the ignition with feeler gauges. I have a couple of ‘Universal’ electronic ignition modules on order. These are primarily for small yard engines. Have you ever tried this? I’m not a stickler for originality. I just want my outboard to be more dependable. I know ‘Atom’ used to make a red ignition module for outboards, but they are unobtainable now days.

The larger hose included doesn't fit through the hole anymore. Shouldn't we be using a 3/16 instead?

What a bugger! I want to make my own timing tool, but that requires knowing how many degrees of offset there are between the key-way on the shaft and the pointer. Could you measure that with a protractor and report back to us viewers? Thanks for another good video!

The flywheel nut turns the flywheel when you crank on it. How did you keep it from turning?

Stupid me. I thought the purpose of a condenser/capacitor was to store electricity short-term, and then release it when called upon to do so.

Is it the same for a bigger motor 2006 Evinrude 135 2 stroke . but doing it opposite slow speeds it jumps but doesn’t jump at high speeds.
