  • How to set up and use the FIRMAN 9400 Duel Fuel Generator. In this video I use Gas. DON'T PLUG THE GENERATOR INTO A HOUSE WALL SOCKET OR PLUG!!!! DANGEROUS Don't PLUG ANYTHING INTO THE GENERATOR UNTIL THE GENERATOR IS RUNNING AND UNPLUG EVERYTHING BEFORE U TURN IT OFF DON'T USE INDOORS OR IN YOUR GARAGE. MUST BE OUT IN OPEN SPACE the fumes will kill you so have it far way from anyplace the gas fumes could accumulate. THESE THINGS ARE DANGEROUS IF NOT USED PROPERLY!!!

    *100% best **Generater.Systems** I have used. A test for hurricane prep here in Louisiana: three AC units, 5000, 5000 & 8000, 3 fridges, 2 device power setups, 4 flat screens....AND I had 40% of the power meter to spare.*

      We only use this for the refrigeration or refrigerators, and some lights

    Video saved me from having to call Firman or return my new one to Costco. When he mentioned his wouldn't start on the incline, I knew I was having a similar problem. These things have BIG gas tanks and just putting in a quart or 2 of gas just to test it out won't allow it to start. Firman says first start should have at least 2 gallons in the tank. I just tilted mine up on some 2x4's so it angled down toward the wheels and it fired right up. Also, disconnect your black battery cable during storage. It's a quick connector and it will save the battery for next time.

    • @TomLeeman
      @TomLeeman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah if you have it on an incline and the gas is leaning to the one side of the tank it won’t fill the reservoir and you end up not being able to start it but if you use the propane you won’t have that problem because it will be for standby pressure good luck enjoy your generator hopefully we don’t have to use them this year thanks for watching

    Awsome preps right there. These duel fuel generator is Awsome. I baught one like this yesterday because we're getting some bad winter storms this week. I didn't get time to stock up on fuel. Now everyone is totally sold out of propane. But I allready had 2 tanks. And today I baught 20 gallons of regular gasoline. Hopefully we won't need it but if we do I should be good for Atleast 1 week. 2 if I use it every once n a while.

    Yeah having a Dickens of a time getting this started. My battery was dead and I wasn’t sure if Generator would start using pull cord if the red light indicator was out. I actually message furman over the weekend and they answered, within an hour, that the generator will start with a dead battery with a pull cord for gasoline operation only. Seem like I’m missing a step the generator is not firing.

    Just want to say THANK YOU! I live in South Texas and was without power during the Snowmagedon for 3 days and then due to storms, was without power (AC) for HOURS and with 3 German Shepherds and just me, it got REALLY HOT since it was already 95 degrees with heat index of 101. So I bought this generator because Texas Electric reliability sucks. And not many places take 3 big dogs so I don’t really have a place to go. I want to run mine on Propane - any tips? Also, how do you drain the gas tank for storage? Last comment- as a single woman, I was able to pick up generator enough to put a block of wood under so I could attach the wheels and leveler. I sweated a lot, but once on, it was easy for me to move into my back yard and put on my porch - and I am ordering a GenTent cover so I can use the generator outside in the rain.

    FYI bro, you're not supposed to screw in the dipstick to check the oil level. Only dip it. Hence the name.
    This can be confirmed in your manual.

      Well, this is the end of my Generator :( I was using it to run a little 5k watt garage heater here in Colorado which was probably about 70-100 hours worth of use and then a couple days after that we lost power and it was -19 degrees outside so I was starting it up to plug into the house to have power and it ran for 5-10 minutes before it stopped and seized up and the pull start wouldn't move it and the electric starter wouldn't either so I was pretty sure that was gonna be the last of my generator lol. So fast forward a week later today I decided I would see if I could get it to run again I changed out the oil which it was pretty low on oil not to get too technical but I took out about a dixie plate from Costco worth of oil. I know, my measurements are extremely scientific. Anyway, put new oil in it start it up using my drill hooked straight to the crank shaft where the pull start hooks up to because it was seized, got it to fire up pretty quickly surprisingly and then it ran for about a minute and blew a hole through the cast crank housing thing. So uhm, she doesn't run anymore lol :(
      I changed the oil last time I went camping over Labor Day weekend last year in 2020 and I never noticed any leaking and I didn't use it much then maybe 30-40 hours because I stayed out for a week so between then and now it was burning oil for some reason I don't think it was leaking because I never noticed any puddles under it. So I would definitely recommend for people to check your oil every time you start it especially if you start climbing in hours like mine was. Anyway though, I think I got a lot of use out of it and I've pushed through some crappy conditions always changing oil in parking lots or dirt fields dust snow rain cold hot one time I had it halfway under my camper during an ice storm / snow storm in Montana and the water would melt off of my camper and then freeze all over the generator and got into the pull start area and froze all of that up I had to take my blow torch to it and start melting everything off before work one morning just trying to get it to turn over and finally did. I was using a hammer to bust the ice off of the top to get the fuel cap off lol. And then it ran like that all day until I got back from work. So I wasn't babying this thing it rode around in my camper where ever I went or in the truck I always used Amsoil and I always tried changing the oil between 100-150 hours maybe once or twice I got closer to 200 but who knows if that would have made a difference.
      So all said and done it cost roughly $0.33 every 1 hour of run time plus fuel and oil which I think is a good return. Compare that to Honda's 4500 running watt generator which is smaller than my Firman at $2,500 dollars to get the same $0.33 an hour return, you'd have to run that Honda for 7,575 hours which maybe it'd do it I don't know, but you're also out $2,500+ just to find out. Most people won't even use their generator 1,500 hours before it just gets so old you want a new one anyway. That's 100 hours a year for 15 years.
      I'm probably gonna go back to Costco and buy the newer Firman TriFuel generator they have out just because this one I feel like did me a real solid job and who knows maybe I got a dud you might get 3k+ hours.

      Actually there is no break in period. Firman states that after 25-hours of usage, oil needs to be changed initially. Thereafter required oil change after each 100- hours. I just picked up the T07573 from Costco in anticipation of mandatory power shutdown during extreme prevailing weather conditions (high winds, red flag warning/dry conditions).
