    Bought this great generator a little while ago. For the record I really like it! Works great and powers the entire house during a power outage. Obviously do the math and figure out what you want to use during a power outage. However, the only issue I want to report is you might need a bigger gas meter to use a natural gas connection to fuel your generator. Also recommend adding up all of the BTU's you plan to use during the Powe outage and then make sure your gas meeting can handle the additional 225K BTU's for the generator. So, if you buy the generator and it will not start on natural gas, call your gas company and get a bigger gas meter. Once I upgraded the meter the generator started up on the first crank. Best of luck!

      @DuroMaxPower  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is great advice! Depending on the location/municipality a larger gas meter may be needed.

    I have a Duromax Dual Fuel 12000 W - I'd not used it until Hurricane Beryl hit Houston. It was brand new, and followed the start up instructions. When I plugged it into my house's interlock kit, and I started turning on a few breakers, inside I could smell burning. It fried many of the electronics on the lines I turned on. After the hurricane I had everything tested. It turned out the Generator was only putting out 153 when it should have been 240, causing the surge I'd experienced, frying many of the items in my house. Please test these before hooking it up to your house. Now I have a huge paperweight because I won't cause tens of thousands in damage to my house again.

    7:41 The quick and easy way to measure that.
    1) Measure from the half way into the threads to the wall and subtract 3" that will put the ell against the wall.
    2) If using a bracket measure the bracket subtract 3" from the wall and subtract the thickness of the bracket.
    The second valve is redundant, remove it, it will cause a flow issue.

    • @avflyguy
      @avflyguy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dependes on whether the generator is a floating neutral or a bonded neutral. Most need to be bonded neutral. Should be a sticker somewhere on the generator that will tell you bonded or neutral bonding. If neutral bonded it is very easy to convert it to bonded with a $5 part and short piece of 12 ga wire from any home improvement center, or you can look online an search _bonding plug for generator_ (not likely to find one of those at home improvement store)

    • @DuroMaxPower
      @DuroMaxPower  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Correct, when using the 50 or 30 Amp Outlet on the Generator with an appropriate Generator Cord the unit does not need to be grounded as it utilizes the Home Power Panel ground.

  • @awesomedee5421

    If the generator turns off from too much load, will it automatically stop the gas flow or will that be an explosion ready to happen?

    • @DuroMaxPower
      @DuroMaxPower  ปีที่แล้ว

      The regulator system in the generator is a "Zero Flow" regulator that will turn off the flow of gas into the engine if it is not running or shuts off unexepectedly.
      As always, for safety purposes it is suggested to turn off the natural gas supply at the valve installed by the plumber when the generator is not running.

    In my area, you cannot use galvanized piping as it flakes on the inside clogging any orifice or gas control valve, you need to use black iron pipe and paint it. When you paint the gas pipe, use some painters tape or old newspaper to pritect the exterior wall from paint, not like this plumber. You also never unthread a nipple like that, you can see he deformed it. It is always reccomended to change the gas meter gaskets once they become loose, you may need 10lt, 20lt or 30lt.

    Regarding the soft start, I have a 3.5 ton American Standard ac unit. Is the soft start a universal product, or do i need to purchase a soft start that is made by American Standard?

      Depends on load and fuel used. Beryl caused 5days without lights. Wen11000/8300 gas generator. I made sure to tach my governor to 3600rpms and multimeter 60hz. My house with 2ceiling fans, 2 fridgerators, deep freezer,drink cooler, led lights, tvs & simple electronics 500watts running. 3.5ton a/c running is 3000watts. Without soft start 39amps with soft start 15amps 240v. A/c alone the generator gets 3½hr a gallon because I turned everything else off during the night. Used flash lights to conserve gas. The house with everything listed above gets 2hrs a gallon at 4000watts. It came out to roughly $32 in gas($2.99 regular) from 6:00am to 6:00am
      I have room for microwave, washer, dryer, dishwasher, air fryer. But I govern use 1 at a time. I dont want to be burning gas needlessly. Plus finding a station with gas is difficult in the beginning. I would not run the generator all day but the weaklings want it 24/7. My perspective is going to hotel/motel with power is no less than $89 a night plus every person is extra charge.

    • @herewegoagain4041

      Also I dont want to run at max load because it will heat the windings to maximum tempertaure. I dont want to lose the only house generator to overloading. So I keep it to 65% for that reason. We are not in luxury times it is "emergency" so will operate on a different routine than normal. Bigger generator mean bigger fuel use & cost. Savings depleting cost. They have tv wifi a/c fridgerator and lights. Which is luxury in difficult times

    One caution 🤔🤔 These hi-watt open frame generators are *not* *_inverter_* generators. The voltage and frequency (60hz) vary considerably. While they may be fine for most electric motors, lights, hotplates, electric stoves, hair dryers, elec space heaters and some coffee makers and the like, it is *NOT ADVISABLE* to use this power for sensitive electronics. TV's , computers, chargers, maybe even HVAC or anything that needs a constant clean wave of 60 hertz pure sine wave. The 60 cycles per second on this type generator are like a runaway train. Electronics simply can not handle wide variations either side of pure sine wave power. One possible fix is a good high quality UPS (Universal Power Supply) for electroics. It may try to stabilze dirty power to cleaner sine wave. APC and ISO makes some good backup power supplies.

    • @DuroMaxPower
      @DuroMaxPower  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi There!
      While you are correct that the unit shown is not an inverter Generator, they are safe for home use as we have spent countless resources testing and the customer base to speak for it. We also agree that a full portable home power backup setup should include surge protectors and/or VFI UPS's which are also commonly used with utility power. While no power into a home is perfect, with the right precautions nearly all accidents can be avoided.

      @rwstarke ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a uninterruptible power supply (UPS) on my electronics (computer equipment, routers, TV, cable box). My UPS's seem to beep & click when connected to the generator. I have a stupid power strip plugged into the battery backup side with items plugged into the strip. All I have to do is move one plug to the surge protector side. And then turn off UPS. Surge protector should still work.

    • @avflyguy
      @avflyguy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rwstarke The reason your UPS is clicking is because it is not seeing a clean 60 cycle (stabilized) power load coming in. Your problem is a surge (voltage- either to high or to low) so much so it's seeing dirty power, varrying power (voltage) but moreso it's not seeing 60 cycle pure sine wave. The power strip will not fix that. It's risky w/ just power strip - all that does is (don't count on it) is protect spike voltage surge, *not* 60 cycle sine wave. In a way, it's good that the UPS is trying to do it's job...just to much flucuation. Best fix is an inverter generator or a good size power battery bank (some mistakenly call solar generators) They don't _generate_ anything.

    • @rwstarke
      @rwstarke ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@avflyguy Thanks. I know why the APC UPS clicks. I just use the Surge Protection (with EMI/RFI Filter) side of the UPS and not the Back-up Battery side. I do have a couple 300W Portable Power Stations and solar panel briefcase for just in case emergency power.

      @@rwstarke Ah- You should be good. I've been using the APC Back-UPS Pro 1000 VA and have very pleased with it. Keeps desktop, modem, switch, wi-fi running a long time, with 26 inch monitor off. During the Texas freeze out a couple of years ago, were able to keep internet going and used laptops/phones and it went a good 15-20 hours (very low load on) I still would not trust any electronics on a non inverter generator. Please know Inverter generators are for your home use and power generators are for your power tools use!! Modern Appliances have chips that require inverters to handle fluctuation of loads, otherwise you could burn your appliances chips.

      That is not the case anymore and we have hundreds of thousands of Generators in service to prove otherwise.

    A very good general overview of the process to convert a home for using a tri-fuel generator. Of course, every state, local and city building codes will be different. Considering this work requires multiple utilities (gas, electrical, etc...) hire a professional contractor to complete this work. This video used 3 different men all from different contractors for a reason. This is not a do-it-yourself job for most people. Be safe, be smart and do it the right way.

    I live in Houston with a detached garage and natural gas. My gas meter is located on the front of the house to the left side and my electric meter located on the rear right outside side of the garage. My breaker box is located on the adjacent side of the electric meter inside the garage.
    My question is do I have to run a solid gas line underground, towards the rear of my house, where I need to locate my generator or can I use a quick connect and connect only when needed?

    • @DuroMaxPower

      A licensed Electrician should be able to run an inlet toward the side of the house where the fuel supply would be to save the hassle.

     @DuroMax Power Equipment Great video - thank you! Question: at 11:34, the plumber describes a quick connect safety valve - it prevents gas flow even if the ball valve is open unless the hose is attached. I've searched online for that sort of connector but am coming up short. Can you post names of manufacturers and any model numbers? Thanks!

      We recommend checking Century Fuel Products or MB Sturgis such as this one:

      Please ensure appropriate sizing based off your application.

      All the needed quick connect couplings are included with the generator. The female couplings have a poppet that is closed until the mating connection is made.

  • @JetFire9

    Why no sediment trap at the quick connect? Seems like it would be a good idea since the generator will potentially run for days and you won't always be out there to look after it.

    Not bad but let’s address a few things that may not have been mentioned or overlooked #1 now that a load is being added to the system let’s calculate the total BTUs, including the new generator and determine if the gas meter can handle the total load (this may include a call to the local gas utility to let them know your intentions on adding a load; especially if their computer system is set up for spike load readings). #2 those things on top of the meter are not called unions they are referred to as meter nuts. #3 let’s try to use an adjustable wrench on those service valves, pipe wrenches tend to marr the brass lugs on service valves. # 4 let’s try to incorporate a sediment trap at the generator and hose connection. And #5 it’s recommended that you take gas pressure readings (lock up & working) , this would involve all the gas appliances in the house plus your newly installed generator (running all at once for working pressure).Hope some of this information helps and stay safe out there.

      @@DuroMaxPower , developing a customer/installing contractor checklist is one of the best ways to stay consistent and put an end to all the “ I thought” comments. Having worked for a full service gas utility for 35 years and now consult from time to time in my retirement, I can assure you keeping all the affected people on the same page is one of the best things you can do. I’m always amazed when I am gathering information for a claims report or sitting at a deposition table, people make statements like “ we never thought to contact the utility“ or “ we don’t have a set procedure, we only have the installation manual“ . Believe me there’s a reason why Airline pilots have a checklist ✅.

      @boby115 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robsapplianceplus6071 , you are correct 👍 and should be another thing added to the checklist. With all the different circuit boards on appliances today I believe these types of generators will be become obsolete one day.

      Actually, when adding gas load, it’s mandatory to inform the utility. That meter is not rated for that load assuming there’s heating equipment already attached. Additionally, the utility should install the takeoff point (tee), not a contractor, at the time they replace the meter (assuming the gas service is sufficient for the added load).
      Other comments: never apply pipe dope (sealant) to the first two threads; never wrench a close nipple like he did which damages the threads (and yea, that nipple leaked); never turn off the gas supply before closing all inside valves (and turning off any appliances with power to them such as a furnace or boiler or power vented water heater) or else any operating appliances will suck the gas out of the pipes requiring a lot more purging once the supply is restored.
      Lastly, the “coupler” to the right of the tee Tony installed, is not actually a coupler, but a pipe end protector, and while Tony didn’t install it, it should not be used as a coupler.
