    Nice video, thanks very much for taking the time to make it! I've had the rack out of my '06 MDX before, but it's been about 4 years, and was looking for a good video to refresh my memory. This video did the trick, and you even showed me a few good tips that will make it go even more smoothly this time. Cheers!

    Awesome video!! I know this has been up for some time, but I'm about to do this on a 2003 Honda Pilot, and I see it should be the same procedure. Question: I replaced all the motor/trans mounts except the rear motor mount 🤬. I was having a hard time removing the 17mm side long main bolt, so I figured when I replace the rack and pinion within the next few weeks, I should have plenty of room with the rack out to change that darn mount right? 😂. Thanks again.

    so how many qts of power steering fluid did you need to refill the system when you were done? and was all of that grease on the steering rack boots from the bad rack? I plan I changing the rear motor mount while I'm in there, Do you have good access to it from under there. new cv axles lower control arms and I think they are called drag link bars, iv already done new trans mounts and struts well be done soon. when you put the rack back up in there-the first two bolts that you put back in were the two that hold it to the frame-at 11;34 in the video I can see a bolt to the right of your two bolts and right above the driveshaft-I watched another video and he took that bolt out that looks like it goes through a round support of some kind, I see that you did not take that out. Would that be the bottom bolt for the rear motor mount? Did you clock the new power steering rack before you put it back up in there-you know turn it all the way to the left and then all the way to the right-then find the middle? what kind of symptoms were you having that made you do this job? I am sorry for all of the questions but on going to do this in my driveway on my back with no help, I did not see too many good places to support the car with the sub-frame, not an option.

    Having a miserable time accessing the 2 lines at the rack from either top of engine bay or from underneath. Going to try your method of disconnecting the one at the other end once I find it, and then dealing with the other line once the rack is pulled out a bit. Thanks.

      @@a2zautomasters862 Both OEM hose clamps snapped, the one at the rack on the return line and the other at the pressure line near the harmonic balancer ... as is shown in nearly every video for this. I used a Dremel extension cable and a cutoff wheel to slice through the bolt, and then it was a matter of wiggling away the clamp arms.
      Now I need to pull away the return line at the while clip so that I can get to the bolt that secures the pressure line to the subframe ... all so that I can hopefully pull the rack out enough to gain better access to the pressure line at the rack ... which just had a wreck round part of it off. Gonna wind up cutting and replacing the pressure line at this rate. It was tightened way too much onto the rack, and a flare wrench never ever had enough access and leverage.

    • @thenexthobby
      @thenexthobby 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got that bracket off and away from the subframe. It's a 10mm ... had a helper hold up the return hose out of my way, from atop the engine using a rope, so that I could get the socket on.
      Just pulled the rack completely out. BTW this is on a '06 Pilot but the procedure is the same.I was eventually able to get a flare wrench on the pressure line, once that bracket wasn't a factor.
      Although my lines seem OK I'm now going to sacrifice my free time and punt the rest of the day ... to order new lines and wait. These lines and hoses are 16 years old and I'd rather not have to deal with this again.

    We are in Hobart,Tasmania.
    Our car mdx (Honda) 2003 had an issue with the steering rack, the mechanic said, this is an expensive job and prety hard to found the part.
    So he suggest me to not worried about that.

    • @a2zautomasters862
      @a2zautomasters862  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea a job like this isn’t cheap. Parts and labor are expensive but if you have a problem with the steering and you can’t steer the car in a safely and timely manner you should really fix that.

      @@a2zautomasters862"I was informed that my car's steering is still in good condition. Another mechanic has confirmed that the steering rack is tight and functioning well. However, the suspension - including the struts and bush - is worn out and requires a thorough inspection. Therefore, I paid for an inspection and did some research. Unfortunately, it's difficult to trust some mechanics these days as they tend to overcharge customers by claiming that older cars are expected to have issues. I am willing to pay as long as the mechanic knows what they are doing. I recently moved from the mainland to Tasmania, and the locals warned me that most mechanics here charge excessively high prices. During the inspection, I discovered that my rear strut was dying and the rear spring had been cut off. Thankfully, the rest of the suspension is working well. I'm assuming that the clicking noise when turning comes from the clock spring on the cabin steering. This is because the audio buttons don't work in the correct order when I use them."

    The two bolts 17 mm that hold rackand pinion to subframe do not aline, actualy only the upper one doesn't. I tried it for more than an hour.

    • @a2zautomasters862
      @a2zautomasters862  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear! Sometimes they get pain in the butt to line up. Make sure everything is loose and start by installing the upper bolt first. You probably will have to twist the rack back and forth to get the back hole to line up. Plz let me know how it goes.

    • @a2zautomasters862
      @a2zautomasters862  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jesus Ibaibarriaga hey! What part is getting stuck, what does it hit? Make sure you have enough clearance by putting a big like 36mm socket between the sub frame and the body of the car like I showed in the video. Front bolts of the sub frame has to be almost completely out. MAKE SURE you lose the main ground by the radiator fans otherwise when u lower the subframe too low will break that ground. Keep me up to date.

      Should be similar but easier since you don’t have to remove or lower the subframe in the TL. It should be about 4.5h if you go by the book
