    Are leaks GOOD or BAD for the fans and industry?

    • @mrsdragonite
      @mrsdragonite 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think the context of the leaks is what's important. I think too much information too soon could be bad. If your game isn't going to be released for some time (1 year+) leaking big or too much info could be a buzz killer, and also things change. I think the passing of some recent big names in the industry showed that things can change a lot. No one anticipates those things can happen when they do.

    Ultimately, it’s up to us to decide whether to consume all the information. Yes, it's easier said than done, but we have the choice to avoid spoilers/leaks. We can simply ignore all related content and wait until the game is released. Instead we choose to spoil the experience ourselves. It’s our own fault, not the leaker’s.

    I'm not for leaks personally, because the fun and excitement of getting something new is then diminished. I love being surprised, like seeing expedition 33 has me hyped for the game and it's exciting to see more later and not knowing.
    Then of course how true are the leaks, take everything with a grain of salt, House Hippo's taught me that lol.
    What is this about cells breaking down ... and we're a new person lol :D

    IMO, its a bit of yes and a bit of no. I don’t think I’ve experienced a moment where a leak ruined the experience of a reveal-trailer for a game. Its kind of like a hyped up movie, where you somewhat know the plot and know which actors are in it, but until you see that first trailer you don’t know what to really expect. Once the reveal trailer for a game drops I don’t even think about the leak or leaker afterwards.
    The only bad thing about leaks is more so the leakers themselves and how EVERYONE wants to be a leaker. Like whenever there’s a Nintendo Direct coming suddenly 1000s of “leakers” start showing up. And then there’s this weird cultish following for leakers that doesn’t make sense to me. Living through those days when the Smash Bros games were in development and we were all hungry for info was the worst. 😂

    Depends on the leak imo, if it's a good leak it can bring excitement to a game or if it's a bad leak it can hopefully shed some light on the project and maybe get things turned around in the right direction... Look at all those microtransaction games, once that got leaked i just stopped looking into those games in general

    • @dukey03
      @dukey03  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah, this is pretty much where I’m at as well. Leaks can be good or bad; depending on what’s leaked and how it’s received

    _"Are Leakers Bad For Fans & The Gaming Industry?"_
    I don't think so, unless if the leaks themselves are full copies of finished products. When leaks of news and information occurs, it can help companies gauge unsolicited audience reception and give them an idea of what their consumers want. It also gives people a starting point for discussions regarding the leak, which may or may not be real, such as the discussion people had about a Starcraft FPS that Blizzard was internally prototyping.
    I'd also say that leaks can give corporations the humiliation they deserve, like when Half-Life 2's shoddy state got leaked which threw eggs all over their faces. Valve was mismanaging the project for so long and weren't communicating anything to their audience, and the leaks forced them to be upfront and transparent with the fanbase, along with giving them a good kick in the rear to do better.

    I get people rather trust leakers than developers but the fun of a release is the unknown, how people were depended on Midori/Mystic, if it was his intention, just how no has faith in game companies or trustworthy people anymore
    Plus I started to feel numb but leak culture by this point thanks to everyone believe Mystic over KH4

  • @no_life45678
    @no_life45678 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Yes and no. Leakers are good for the industry especially for us in the west where we dont get much info in the first place about these games. So yea getting updates and such from leakers keeps the fanbase happy and up to date. HOWEVER i respect the decision that some want to go in blind and some want to know certain things such as release date/how production is going and these people may not want to know anything else. The issue imo arises when people post things to yt about said leakes without a warning. It should be considered common curtesy to either ask if the person wants to see the leaks or to keep spoilers out of the title and thumbnails off videos. People should be given the choice to watch that content and not have it forced down their throat.

    I think that leakers can be both good and bad in some ways, even if we're ignoring all of the times when they're spreading misinformation.
    The good thing about leakers is that they can drum up conversation around a certain series and draw in new fans to a dying series--potentially saving the entire series. This doesn't necessarily need leakers but they can contribute to this if the developers aren't open about their development.
    The bad thing about them is that the game studios don't get to control the marketing of their games. Early information can get people hyped up but that hype quickly dies out. Just look at what's going on with Elder Scrolls 6. While not a result of leaks, I see almost zero interest in that game because they announced way before they should have.

    • @dukey03
      @dukey03  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah true. Sometimes developers themselves release information on a game long before they should have as well. Look at Dragon Quest XII; I don’t see us getting news on it for awhile yet and it’s been about 4-5 years since we first got that title reveal trailer. It made people believe that it was even getting cancelled at one point

    I almost bought TLOU2, if it wasn't for the leaked script. Had I known about it Ragnarok I'd skipped it as well. I don't like every game getting leaked but, when companies pull a fast one I find it acceptable.
