@@andrei-cezarbleaje5519 solid picks. I love Laxasia as well, she’s one of the couple I have the most trouble with still, but she’s quite a fun fight. Inversely, I actually really enjoy the Manus fight. My only gripe with him is that he is sort of weak health wise, so all of my playthrough I’ve beat him so fast that I don’t really get a chance to savor the fight. I haven’t fought him since they buffed him fairly recently, so maybe that’ll change now.

my favorite boss is the nameless puppet. First phase is easy if you can parry but 2nd phase really challenges your parries and reaction time. least favorite is probably the second black rabbit brotherhood fight. The status affects are god awful and the fact that the eldest return and can gank you with the last one is so annoying.

You at least put Fascination in your vid. That makes this vid an A+ already.
I hate gank boss fights, so both Brotherhood fights are two of my least favorite. That said, however, the fights are manageable. Not hard to figure out what to do to break down.
Now that I think of it, Simon Manus is the one I hate more.

I think the title of this video more or less communicates exactly how I feel about this game. It's really sad how many people skipped this one because they assumed it'd just be another uninspired souls-like, and honestly, even I wasn't expecting much when I started playing, but I ended up falling deeply in love with it for its story, music, art direction and its surprisingly deep combat.

What I love about LoP compared with FromSoft games is the amount of viable defensive options it provides. In LoP, parrying, blocking and dodging are all equaly viable options each with its pros and cons and with different grades of viability depending what attack are you trying to defend against. Parrying is harder, yes, but that gets countered by the fact you have other defensive options, If you miss the timing of the parry you can just keep pressing the button and block instead, which allows you to then gain the health back in your next attacks like in bloodborne. TLDR In all FromSoft games there is usually only ONE really "best" defensive tool (parrying for Sekiro and dodging for everthing else) and the other defensive options get overshadowed and outclassed, but this is not the case in Lies of P.

    • @anonisnoone6125

I believe there are literally more frames to parry in Sekiro, the difference is in the timing itself. I saw a visual model someone made on Reddit (I think) while I was working on this video, and it really helped me not only understand but actually get better at Sekiro. Whereas LoPs timing is a lot closer to when the attack lands, Sekiro’s is actually a few frames before the attack. If I can find it I’ll come back and link it.

The perfect guard system is awesome and while it can be overwhelming and extremely difficult to get use to but once it clicks it’s such a satisfying mechanic. I am quite impressed by Lies of P just by giving it a short play after I was checking some other Souls-like not from From Soft and finding nothing genuinely good or not being a bad rip-off without the soul. Now lies of P is also taking ideas from a lot of different souls games, the BloodBorne aesthetics, the Shekiro style parry, some enemy placements that remind me more of DS1 personally. Takes a lot of good elements and combines them perfectly, and indeed let's you play in different ways, I didn't have to always parry like the very little time I tried Shekiro and couldn't get used to it. But it also ties it perfectly with it's own unique IP with the spin-off of Pinnochio story, with great work on the art and graphics design. They are taking and improving on elements from all Dark Souls and From Soft games, but they are doing it in a really good way. It doesn't feel like a bad mimicry like others non From-Soft souls-like I tried. It's great that this happened from a relatively unknown south korean company. I like to see that, I like to see others doing their own IPs with souls-like gameplay when they do it in a such a good way, even if I complain about everyone trying to mimicking badly the souls formula.
I think I finished 3 bosses and then went back to finish some other games that are still on going (Blood Borne, DS3, Elden Ring,. really I still haven't finished any of them, but played countless times DS1/2) but it's definitely on my list of games deserving to finish.

I think some of the criticisms that are "sekiro is more generous than lies of p" is because some people may have come from sekiro as their first souls-like instead of from another fromsoftware games.
    like me.
i haven't finished sekiro yet (one day), but i cannot dodge to save my life because of how hardly beaten it is in you to NOT DODGE.
So learning how to dodge and getting use to the odd timing window of parrying (in terms of coming from sekiro) is really difficult, hence why I think a lot of people said it's too difficult.
    Just some food for thought.

As far as comparing to souls games, this is the first one to put me back in my place and actually take seriously. Yes, the other games are fun, and sure, the bosses and enemies curbstomp you. However, this is the first one to have so much deliberate detail on it that you have to sit down and comb through it. Rushing, even if you win, does not mean you succeed.

8:50 - I felt the same about that name until I learned about the reasoning behind it, and it sounds weird only to Americans. The South Korean team that made this was actually very clever in that P while eluding to Pinocchio and other P named characters, has a deeper meaning to the entire series when you look at the cultural background of the developer. The letter P is very similar visually to a Korean character used for "humanity" so when you look at it this way, the P organ is your Heart or metaphorically the thing that makes you human. Additionally it gives a greater insight to this games theme by reading the title as "The Lies of Humanity" as every story beat and arc is centered around the lies we tell as humans, and the reasons behind those lies being the source of what makes us human.
Even the thing I was most unsure about in the game, it's title, hit me harder than I was expecting when I opened it up and looked around. Round 8 is a gem and we must protect them at all costs.

The King of Puppet was a pretty good example of how Lies of P is trying to communicate that not everything can be solved by perfect guarding or dodging. The first phase has incredibly telegraphed attacks, which encourages you to perfect block them, while dodging is kept at a minimum due to the bosses incredibly long sweeping attacks. However, following the second phase, a completely new moveset is brought, the attacks are more aggressive and the boss actively punishes overly defensive behavior by doing a pull attack. This ultimately encourages you to dodge most of the attacks in the second phase, and you realize that by dodging, you have a lot more windows to attack than if you had attempted to perfect dodge (and ultimately lose a portion of your health because of how insanely tight those block windows of the second phase can be).

Maybe getting to the 2nd to last boss at level 170 and still getting one shot by a combo over and over again. The door boss that does not take any damage or chapter 11 enemies taking little damage. I know GUT GUD since all the other Fromsoft games are easier. I know most people enjoyed the 4V1 fights all they need to do is have you not keep ergo when you die and have bosses refill health with each hit so it is hard enough for people. I know the fanboys also play with no-hit runs in all games. Don't say anything wrong with a game all games are perfect just like our government.

I despise parrying, and it’s pretty much unplayable if you can’t parry. That’s it really, same reason I never even bothered with Sekiro, when you design a game around one core mechanic, if a player struggles with that mechanic they won’t be able to enjoy anything else in the game.

  • @izanazir7088
    @izanazir7088 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Lies of p did something incredible that most people don't talk about and its really sad. Merging the gaurd/block mechanic (similar to sekiro's deflect) into a souls genre. Souls genre has generally been the same (never played bloodborne so...), the game always was about dodging rather than blocking. Sekiro introduced something that felt like you are really actually fighting the bosses (because of deflect mechanic), rather then souls game felt like you are defeating them using game mechanics.
Lies of P, imo, took things one step further. It not only managed to merge a similar system from sekiro but also made it tighter that mixed surprisingly well into souls like combat. If you add block/ or deflect mechanic in a souls game, for example dark souls 3, the game suddenly would become very easy to beat. Because the animations of dark souls 3 bosses were made in mind that players can dodge them or block with shield, thus slower animation.
Lies of p, upgraded this by having a tighter timing block system, which resulted in even harder movesets for bosses. Unlike sekiro, you can't spam the block button, where you think you can leave block button if your timing is off, and you pressed block too early, if you leave and press again, you will die in process because the animation for that is not like sekiro and is slow, in sekiro spamming generally did the job.
Now if the boss animation were more slower, less brutal you could abuse the block mechanic and feel the game is easy. Round8 took things more further. Even if you understand the block mechanic, you still will be thrown off by enemy attacks and you will see that every enemy is hard, because lies of p was designed by keeping in mind the block mechanic. Even if you master it, you still will feel difficulty spikes.
So for that reason, they made bosses with faster movesets to counter block mechanic and push you to limit to use it. Dodging is also possible tho, but its much harder in later game. Devs idea for this game, I think, was to upgrade souls formula in sense that introducing something into souls combat that not only made it harder to master but also introduced bosses having movesets for that. So you block or have a 'parry system' (people like to call it) which is more harder then sekiro's and you have bosses, which are souls like, abusing it. So your only option is too get good. Thus alot of bosses, especially in late game test that mastery of the mechanic you have.
This is where it gets controversial, lies of p after patch 1.3 changed that. First you used to struggle in almost every fight because of faster animations, but now only real challenge are handful of bosses. If you don't believe me you can watch a comparison video and play the demo for the difference. In patch 1.3, having slower animations and giving a bit more forgiveness over not perfect blocking (increasing the timing for it) changed the philosophy design for this game. I thought patch 1.2 was enough, because it already tried to change it but 1.3 was overkill.

I still haven't fully mastered the perfect block, but I still managed to complete the game four times. For all of its difficulty, it does give you additional tools to help get through the tougher parts of the game. And I agree, playing a Soulslike with a linear design is a breath of fresh air after playing something as huge as Elden Ring.
As far as I'm concerned, Lies of P deserved more love, as the game itself is clearly made with alot of heart put into it. Neowiz made a game that matches a Soulsborne game and, as far as I'm concerned, is better than many AAA games out there now.

One of the absolute greatest souls like games ever created that deserves to stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of sekiro and bloodborne. Incredibly underrated game that deserved way more love and attention than it got.

to backup your statement between the difference in sekiro parrying to lies of p parrying, the difference in parry window is massive btw, sekiro has a 30 frame parry window (about half a second reaction time) and to parry an attack in sekiro you would press the button to parry about half way through the animation of the enemies attack.
In lies of p on the other hand, you have an 8 frame parry window (1/8 of a second reaction time) and you press the guard button basically as the enemies attack animation is ending, practically when they're just about to hit you.
Yes both games have a parry but because sekiros whole game is based around parrying, the window of timing is much bigger compared to lies of p. Yes both games are hard to parry in regardless but that's the real difference in timing, a 22 frame difference

It's funny you mention this, I didn't show it in the video but I found a reddit post that visualized the difference (both window size and when its open) and ended up linking another commenter to it a couple months ago. In any case, thanks for the comment, means a lot.
