      @@whitelion124 I would also think that ETC Complex 2 is an enzyme on TCA Cycle (Succinyl DH). So inhibiting TCA cycle directly inhibits ETC. So they can't use it even though there's a high amount of NADH

    I would be very interested in references on this. It seems not quite right in that 1. OAA scan be supplied from Asp via transamination. 2. Acetyl-CoA is an activator of pyruvate carboxylase which will increase OAA when needed for TCA cycle. No? Also, liver is active in gluconeogenesis but liver doesn’t use ketone bodies. Not a challenge but what about these points?

    Ketones get converted back to acetyl-coA when they reach their destination. How are ketones then helping to produce energy if the TCA cycle can't continue because of the lack of oxaloacetat? Why form ketones because of oxaloacetate depletion if you need oxaloacetate to gain energy from ketones?

  • @chadaitken5476
    @chadaitken5476 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Help me understand the process of alcoholism and TCA cycle shuts down?
    What happens when that person eats sugar?
    Where does the sugar go? Stored in the liver and not the cells?
    Or the sugar doesn’t produce atp energy for the alcoholic?
    Is seems like the solution would be to take mct oil and exogenous ketones?
    This is good stuff?? This video has me really curious as to the pathway?

    To clarify, the body's primary preference is to eliminate glucose as soon as possible. Before the advent of highly processed foods and the introduction of sugar, mankind relied on burning ketones for energy. It is important to remember that the body will make every effort to get rid of glucose due to its potential harm.

    A 4th way you can form ketone bodies is by following the KETO Diet! haha. But I suppose this can go under starvation because the idea is to deprive your body from Carbs so insulin stays low.

    The high-level overview of the mnemonics doesn’t seem helpful to improving my conceptual understanding of how things actually work. Rather, it seems more like a memorization technique to pass a quiz. I’m just trying to understand how things work. I am not a medical student because I don’t accord with the Sociopolitical ideations of modern college and medical school. Aside: describing things that are important as “high-yield“ is silly and somewhat distracting. I appreciate the effort you put into this. I just don’t completely understand it. The subject matter requires deeper and more involved discussion than a 21 minute video. Do you have more videos to breakdown each of these components in slightly more detail? It would be nice to start with a high-level overview, then go into deeper discussion of bio chemical and physiological pathways, and then draw those pathways back into the high-level topic of discussion.
    Thank you.

    Can someone please explain how it is possible to use Ketones as an energy source? If it is actually formed due to oxaloacetate depletion or a NAD/NADH disbalance and if it's degradation would form acetyl CoA as a final product, how would it produce energy without undergoing TCA cycle?

    • @sunvavachi
      @sunvavachi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He states when things are depleted and no oxaloacetate, our body will produce ketones as a result of a loss of ATP. The TCA cycle will not commence. Ketones will be the new source of energy.

    • @chadaitken5476
      @chadaitken5476 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That TCA cycle takes energy to go thru the whole process? Thus more energy short cut with ketones?
      Ketones also release less free radicals, so less Glutathione needed?
