Inverness has the same problem as most other teams in Scotland, they struggle to get a big crowd unless the old firm are visiting, simply because most fans travel to watch either Celtic or rangers
thats just not true though, ive known for years that per capita scottish football is the best supported in the world FACT and he confirmed it in the video, the problem is that a country of 5 million people tries to support half as many league clubs as england despite being ten times smaller in population, the solution would be merging loads of clubs so there is far less clubs overall but that wont ever happen because no matter how small the club is they just wont want to merge with rivals and niether should they have to,take st johnstone for example they have a roughly 10 000 seater stadium and on average home game not against rangers or celtic theyll get a crowd of about 5000,now youll think thats a terrible crowd but in reality they are the best supported club in britain because perth only has a population of 50 000 so 10 percent of the town is going to games which is a monumental number even compared to the biggest clubs in the world compared to the size of their cities so the fans cant really do anymore than they already are,we just need to be more realistic and just accept we are a very small nation,we hear stuff like ''the scottish prem is like league 1 in england'' and thats meant as an insult but what do they expect?if u added up all the towns and cities from league one im sure it would come up to far more than our population so we are already punching above our weight and the fact clubs from scotland have won so many european trophies and got to finals in the last 20 years is actually remarkable, yes improvements could be made at governing bodies like the SFA and SPFL but as fans we cant realistically do anymore
Not true at all - the population of Scotland is 5.454 million. Celtic Park holds 60,000, while Ibrox holds 50,000. There are a number of Scottish clubs with shockingly low average attendances, (though there are several extremely well supported clubs too) which can't simply be blamed on the big two Glasgow clubs. A few years ago, out of curiosity, I listed every senior Scottish club, and compared it to the local population - while I can't remember most of what I saw, it's clear that there are a number of towns and cities that could do a lot more in supporting their local teams. There is also an argument that Scotland can't sustain 40 senior clubs anyway - given the limitations on finances within the Scottish game. If people want to see change, they've got to back their local team.
This weekend was the 10 year anniversary of Western Sydney Wanderers AFC victory. It’s one of the best underdog stories in modern football, can you please have a look at it?
@@Ese96Agboayethat was over 10 years ago, as per the OC. Back then they were the most anticipating expansion side, with an aggressive but passionate fan base, winning the league (but not the actual title, the Grand Final) in their first season, and then the Champions League. Now, they haven't won anything since, crowds are mediocre, (but the rest of the League is as well), haven't been standing out and they are probably one of the worst teams this season after a few games.
Even as a Rangers fan that had irrationally bitter feelings with teams who (rightfully so, as we didnt even want the shortcut) didn't vote us back into the top flight of Scottish football, i hope this has a happy outcome, as our game is struggling as it is, and local teams like this need to be a staple of all our cities.
Hey, I could see my house roof in one of the pictures. Don't want Caley to die as being a Ross County fan I do not want our nearest rivals to be St. Johnstone.
Yet another superb video! Covering pretty much every base.. makes me wonder how many locals/Caley fans you must've had to interview to get all of this info. There's been so many reasons for Caley's downfall. Their initial founding which alienated most fans of each side.. when they ground shared prior to building the new stadium at Caley's ground they painted the urinals in Thistle colours. The new club actively dissuaded those who remained from the two fan bases from attending games unless they brought a "family atmosphere" with them. Swearing could get you hooked out the ground in the early days. The stadium itself is a cold, windy, soulless dump which takes 30+ mins to walk to with nothing en route for fans to engage with and nowhere to stop for a coffee or pint. If you start a new club and immediately make it hostile to established fan bases then it's a doomed project. That they overachieved for so long should be lauded but the writing was on the wall a decade ago. Directors taking money from the club, the same directors initially charging the club a fortune for the two new "temporary" stands despite the fact their construction companies (or they themselves) could comfortably absorb the costs had they chosen to do so. It's the Highland mentality that killed that club. Insular, won't take advice, inward thinking, with a general air of negativity that permeates that club. They never really gave a toss about supporting the youth system up here outwith giving away free tickets to schools when they were down in the lower leagues to begin with. Even then it was to watch the game behind the goal at ground level on a concrete plinth.. and if you slagged the goalie off or just acted like a kid you'd get turfed out. Compare and contrast with Ross County who have had a long established youth system and scouting network across the Highlands, have an owner who has had a long term strategy and who will chip in with his own funds when needed (which is the nature of financing in Scottish football.. 99% of clubs are skint), and who has the club actively engaging with the community. They worked closely with the council to get the football academy open and it's now of benefit to the club and the wider community (as it can be booked by anyone). Caley have had a difficult relationship with not just the council but businesses and the community here so it's unsurprising so few people were willing to chip in to the go fund me raiser recently. Yeah Falkirk could be about to become the total opposite of what way ICT have gone, a team in the total doldrums who’s fans and community have pulled together to get us back on the right track. Crowds, commercial activities and everything else on the up. Great time to be a Bairn💙
This is a brilliant analysis of a very sad situation, Alfie. I am worried you will soon make a video about my club, Hibernian. They are languishing at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership with just one win from 12 games.

Funny timing for me. Have been to Inverness this September and went to the Scottish Challenger Cup match against Stirling. Actually quite liked the performance of Inverness, however the stadium was very empty with approx. 200 people attending, and all the fans we talked to were really critical about the clubs performance as of late
I've always found Inverness Caledonian Thistle interesting given its somewhat unique history. It's a shame to see how precipitous and rapid a fall they've undergone in their peak in the 2010s. Thank you for your great work on this, Alfie.
As someone who’s own family are all born in Inverness, the last few seasons have been heartbreaking. Thanks for highlighting the mountain of issues Caley is facing. Just a shame everyone under the sun is laughing at us even if a lot of it is the board’s fault, the fans don’t deserve any of the recent jokes. Thanks for being unbiased Alfie ❤️
I'm Greek and I visited Scotland and Inverness back in 2005. It is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. I even bought a Caley Thistle shirt which I have to this day. I've always considered ICT to be my 'Scottish club'. Like that club in a league in another country that you like for some reason. That's Caley Thistle for me in Scotland.
You think Alfie wasn't going to do a video on a club that consistently gets in the news in the UK about how they may dissolve? It was Zealand making a video on it that did it? So any video maker that covers a current hot topic has been influenced by someone who beat them to it and not the news?
Alfie has stated previously he doesn’t watch TH-camrs, so I doubt he watches Zealand, especially a video from months ago on a second channel. This has been news in the UK continuously for the past few months, speaking as a Caley Thistle supporter
every time alfie drops something like this, especially starting with a discussion of original sin, i just wish he had big backing behind him. truly a god amongst men for youtube football channels
Great video as always. Situation in Inverness has been ridiculous for some time now. Would be interesting if you could do a video based on Scottish football in general and explore if it as much as a “farmers league” as many supporters in England thinks it is.
@tigerrick cheers. The early signs from the administration have been positive I am optimistic we will get out the other side. Taking a step back to part time football in league 2 to start our rebuild and have the football club running like a football club again
About time Callum Blyth got props for his toil on this subject for months, go give him a follow. And 👋 to East Yorkshire's finest for another banger as well.
What does this have to do with Zealand?? ICT going into admin has been spoke about for months and really big news around the uk over the past fortnight.
@Jamiiemac Zealand was the first person I came across talking about this issue a month before the shenanigans u mentioned. Now Alfie made a full blown documentary on the same club.
Two teams that should have merged a long time ago instead of having half of the football fans in Dundee between them and the other half between clubs in Glasgow
its great that you listen to your audience's video suggestions, there is a reason why you're know as the people channel after all. thefore it would be brilliant if you did a video about the welsh premier league ans its history, and why the biggest Welsh teams play in England, and if that could change
Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, Newport etc all play in England for historical reasons, there was no Welsh National Leagues back in the day, the Welsh Premier League was only formed about 1993, I don't think they'll ever go back, though they might go back to Wales to play in Cup Competitions
The merger of two rival clubs reminds me of the merger between Yokohama Marinos and Yokohama Flügels to be Yokohama F. Marinos. Obviously, many Yokohama Flügels fans were not happy, and Yokohama FC (the club that Kazuyoshi Miura, the oldest active player, has played for many years) was born.

The state of Scottish football as a whole is just depressing and for a nation who loves football it would be so nice to see some good football and some great games both from the clubs and the national side for the fans to have something to enjoy and look forward to
I was a childhood fan of Caley Thistle or ICTFC. I moved to Edinburgh a year after they got relegated, it’s a mess what happened to Scottish Football. I watched Aaron Doran and idolised him. What a mess!
Personally, I think Ross County is the "Pride of Highlands". 😀 Great video, I hope ICT find a way to survive their battles and work their way back up to the Premiership. I'd love to see another Highland Derby one day.
Day 1 of asking you to do a video about why manager transfer windows don't exist It's mostly referring to Aston Villa and Man United poaching managers mid-season from VIllareal and Sporting
Minor and almost inconsequential nitpick (unless youy ever find yourself on the bus to it and the driver seemingly doesn't understand): the emphasis is on the first syllable of Cromarty and not the second.
"Super Caley go ballistic, Celtic are atrocious!" is, to this day, the best headline from any Football article.

Actually quite liked the performance of Inverness, however the stadium was very empty with approx. 200 people attending, and all the fans we talked to were really critical about the clubs performance as of late
I've been living in Inverness for nearly 5 years now and I've legitimately only met two fans, it's wild.
Thank you for the video
Alfie, God damn it, can you please make a top 7 greatest playmakers of all time 😭
Zealand's influence is massive
Would be interesting if you could do a video based on Scottish football in general and explore if it as much as a “farmers league” as many supporters in England thinks it is.
as a lapse catholic this is the most scripture i have listened this year
Great video from the best youtuber!
As a ICT fan I've been waiting on this
Good luck to Caley Thistle. Hope you've still got a club to support, buddy. 🙏
@tigerrick cheers. The early signs from the administration have been positive I am optimistic we will get out the other side. Taking a step back to part time football in league 2 to start our rebuild and have the football club running like a football club again
16:26 “in charge of Dundee” Dundee United photo, just like Sky Sports
You have a good memory brother use it for good we don’t want another super villain. 😂😂😂
Best. Headline. Ever.
Great listen!
About time Callum Blyth got props for his toil on this subject for months, go give him a follow. And 👋 to East Yorkshire's finest for another banger as well.
@@Paddyboro I agree
Love this series! Please do one on what’s happening with the Russian league since they were banned from European football
Great content 👏
Zealandism's impact made Alfie talk about Inverness Caledonian Thistle
What does this have to do with Zealand?? ICT going into admin has been spoke about for months and really big news around the uk over the past fortnight.
@Jamiiemac Zealand was the first person I came across talking about this issue a month before the shenanigans u mentioned. Now Alfie made a full blown documentary on the same club.
@@amanshukla6122meanwhile I’ve made 3 videos since June on them. Such a mess of a club
@@CallumBlythhow dare you ruin a good srguement with facts 😂
@@CallumBlyth Will check them out for sure.
There are errors
28:11 they finished 9th in a 10 team league
2:51 and 32:24 they are on -2 points after 2nd November games.
No way, you've covered my local club!
To be clear, I live in Leicester, but I grew up in Inverness. My first football game was Caledonian vs Nairn County in about 1992.
@@williamcroson9102what a place Nairn is same with ness love it up there
I am so in the know about Inverness Caladonian Thistle because of Zealand, this video is for me
9:26 legendary joke, WOW. I absolutely love it, truly
@16:28 you are talking about Dundee but have a picture of Dundee United. They're different teams
Two teams that should have merged a long time ago instead of having half of the football fans in Dundee between them and the other half between clubs in Glasgow
*before the video*: Why would i want to watch a 35+ min Video on Inverness? *after the video*: You win again Alfie.
its great that you listen to your audience's video suggestions, there is a reason why you're know as the people channel after all. thefore it would be brilliant if you did a video about the welsh premier league ans its history, and why the biggest Welsh teams play in England, and if that could change
Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, Newport etc all play in England for historical reasons, there was no Welsh National Leagues back in the day, the Welsh Premier League was only formed about 1993, I don't think they'll ever go back, though they might go back to Wales to play in Cup Competitions
"Thistle do Nicely"
Never Change Alfie
"Thistle do nicely"💀🤣🤣 the fact that i chuckled makes me think that im getting old😂

Videos on the rise of Bodo Glimt, Indonesia national team, Heidenheim and what is going on at Montpellier and Valencia (updated)
Valencia gonna have as many what is going on at's as there are Fast and Furious iterations
Amazing intro
The merger of two rival clubs reminds me of the merger between Yokohama Marinos and Yokohama Flügels to be Yokohama F. Marinos. Obviously, many Yokohama Flügels fans were not happy, and Yokohama FC (the club that Kazuyoshi Miura, the oldest active player, has played for many years) was born.

There is a great video to be made about New Zealand qualifying for the 1982 World Cup .
Haven’t even started the video but I know this is peak
Nothing could’ve prepared me for the first 15 seconds
Need a ‘what on earth is going on at Rangers’ after this- would make Inverness look like Brighton in comparison!
Any chance of doing a video on Morecambe?????
Thank you
The state of Scottish football as a whole is just depressing and for a nation who loves football it would be so nice to see some good football and some great games both from the clubs and the national side for the fans to have something to enjoy and look forward to
I was a childhood fan of Caley Thistle or ICTFC. I moved to Edinburgh a year after they got relegated, it’s a mess what happened to Scottish Football. I watched Aaron Doran and idolised him. What a mess!
but in Scotland you can get liquidated and just say the new club is the same one
I have no idea this team existed but ill watch the whole thing
Personally, I think Ross County is the "Pride of Highlands". 😀
Great video, I hope ICT find a way to survive their battles and work their way back up to the Premiership. I'd love to see another Highland Derby one day.
Never Inverness are bigger than county
My favourite thing about this channel is "what's more," (Wattmore)
We need a What on Earth is going at Genoa
As a Hearts fan I know what ICT are going through.
Its so sad what's happening with ICT.
But I am sure they will survive.
Great photos of the pit (pittodrie aberdeen) you made the old girl look good SF
Day 1 of asking you to do a video about why manager transfer windows don't exist
It's mostly referring to Aston Villa and Man United poaching managers mid-season from VIllareal and Sporting

No doubt we'll get one if they stay in the top 4 🤞
