Santos have been a mess for the past 5 years like many clubs since the laws changed and intentional companys buying clubs. In 2020 they lost majority of thete youth players and alot of first team players because they hadn't been paying them which basically led to this downfall but since 2014 the team has been losing players cause of massive debts which is a recurring theme in south American football (river plate etc)

Spurs v Everton as a financial comparison: Spuds had double our revenue twenty odd years ago. For all the complaints from some Spurs fans about Daniel Levy, he had the club invest money in things that returned revenue to the club. At the same time, Kenwright was selling off all Everton's "assets" in the club shop; catering; ticket sales, anything he could to raise revenue. Which was sadly needed at the time, but also was an indication that our finances were poor. After that, we ran about even, which let's face it, IS HOW A CLUB SHOULD BE RUN. But that means that we needed to consistently outperform our financial clout to be top 7, which is pretty impossible to sustain. I was strongly opposed to us getting a sugar daddy, because I had seen Portsmouth and Leeds etc. But if we had one, what we needed was investment from the back end (new stadium, new facilities) and then to use that room to improve on the field. Moshiri seemingly was an idiot, and we've had sporting directors and managers happy to spend staggering sums on absolute drivel, and also employ Frank Lampard. Many Everton fans are indignant. And whilst it's hard not to point at Man City, Chelsea and Newcastle, or PSG further afield for being much worse than we are, we have absolutely broken the rules, and the only reason we didn't gain a sporting advantage is because we're incompetent. We deserve the penalty, and we're very, very lucky it was this season, because I think we'd go under if we went down. It's just that other clubs deserve more serious penalties.
I'm an American who's been supporting Everton since 2000 which was when Walter Smith was managing. Clearly not a glory hunter and haven't seen us win one piece of silverware in those 23 years.
I was literally thinking last night what is going on at Everton? From the fifth team in the Premier league to this, it's really sad to see. I hope that they'll not be relegated to the Championship!
One of footballs most historic club and one of the most success domestically you really can't get any more traditional than Everton and without Haysel and the ban on English clubs competing in European competitions you would wonder what more else that they could have won in fact that may well have had a direct impact on their decline in the intervening yesrs and their near relegation from the EPL on a few occasions Everton after all were always one of the big 5 prior to the foundation of the EPL in 1992 but have arguably never recovered from the European ban imposed from 1985-1990 when they were denied the opportunity to showcase their talents
Always have a soft spot for Everton after my hero, Alan Ball left Blackpool for them. Their midfield 3 of Kendal, Harvey & Ball were beautiful to watch. And that mid 80s team were a fantastic watch.
The real issue with Everton and their aspirations to become a Top 6 Club...is that they didn't actually spend enough. After all; Chelsea & Manchester City have had to spend £2+ Billion to become established Top 6 Clubs, which is a lot more than what Everton have spent since 2016 (£700+ Million). And that was mostly in a time when players didn't cost more than £80 Million. That's why they have ended up spending money on players that are no better than Mid-Table...rather than on the likes of Harry Kane for example, a player who would cost £250-300 Million over a 5 year contract (£150-200 Million Transfer Fee + £100 Million in Wages) on their own.
The commission ruled that Everton never gained any sporting advantage during that period so I can't understand a sporting sanction rather than a financial one or a transfer embargo, which may help the club from going into financial meltdown.the club is a massive part of English football history and it's of paramount importance that the clubs supporters don't suffer, when the club needed rebuilding and a new ground it was always going to cost a lot more.
What you seem to ignore is that we could have easily gone into administration and received a 9 point deduction we are not saying we shouldn't be punished but the severity of the punishment we've been given and this has only served to show that the premier league DOES in fact need an outside regulator....
Alfie did seem to ignore this point, which happens to be the point with Evertonians. Not one Evertonian, not one, hasn't said we shouldn't have been punished. But every Evertonian, and pundit, and neutral, across the country has said that the punishment clearly doesn't fit the crime. Not even close. This is why the Premier League, along with it's officiating and VAR, has again brought the game into disrepute with this attempt to make an example out of Everton.
Why were English teams banned from Europe in the 1980s? Could you maybe make a video about it in case you haven't yet? Might be quite interresting and as a non-British viewer I was not aware of this at all
English clubs were banned for five years due to the deaths of Juventus supporters in Heysel Stadium in 1985 UCL final. This ban didn't extend to the national team and youth national teams however. English clubs were reinstated only in 1990 after England cleaned up the hooligan mess.
I think in theese situations where the owners have clearly messedbup the club they should be punished financially by having shares removed. In the case of Everton its us fans who have been depressed and loosing our hair while the owners do not care about the club or what happens to it. To see my club go from threatening the top to relegation battle season after season. Same thing with Chelsea or City or Barcelona.....fans have done nothing wrong and fans have little influence in club all you can do is look at your club burning to the ground. Point detuctions do little to the owners.....it just hurts the fans.
@@ezraezra2928 yeah, I got some real mixed feelings about that. I'm happy Vasco wasn't relegated and I'm happy we're going to see the Salvador derby in the serie a again after so many years, but being Santos out just feels like a loss for Brazilian football

As an Everton fan I believe we deserve punishment for our board's incompetence but when a club gets deducted 9 points for entering administration it shows how harsh 10 points is for going over the limit by basically pennies.
Basically, we averaged a 6.5m signing each season we were over, going off the EPL's estimate, which would buy you, in today's market....well, not very much of an onfield advantage tbh
Everton is one of my favourite respective footballing teams ever but I already knew when the takeover by Farhad Moshiri sir happened during late 2010's,the management which was inherited by the then chairman Bill Kenwright sir!!!The ten points which was handed out to them was totally unfair for them despite they signing some dodgy players with high transfer fees but for those fake big teams of more than fourteen years, have been buying their ways to successes and destroyed the true meaning of the sport!!!
Everton taught me not to fall in love with a football club. Loved them in the 90s, when I was a kid, but 90s Everton and current Everton have absolutely nothing in common. It's gone from a football club to.. I don't even know what to call it
@jjunbeatable9522 well based on the games we've played we are about 14th, and that's with all the teams above us having played an extra game. The away form has massively improved. The squad is a lot more balanced. A clear style of play. The Board are being replaced as we speak. The Ownership looks like its about to change. To top it all off this harsh points deduction has united a club that has been fractured for years.
I thoroughly enjoy these videos and I might be a bit weary because of hbomberguy’s most recent video, but I’d like you to mention your sources a bit more clearly/have a bibliography in the description
good question great summary even knowing a lot of it already one of the new to me bit was low matchday revenue from a small stadium, which would explain a big commitment to build a bigger one
Don’t get me wrong, Everton 100% deserved some form of punishment and I don’t really feel bad for the 10 point deduction. HOWEVER it is unfair that Man City and Chelsea have continuously gotten away with their breaches
10 points for going 20 mil above the limit (which is not a significant amount in today’s market) because of their new stadium construction is so stupid especially because of the deals also lost through Ukraine it’s a disgraceful decision no questions
City and Chelsea's breaches are still just allegations - NOT PROVEN! You have to actually WAIT for the charges to be PROVED before punishing them! - Ditto for Player X btw who it seems we still cannot name despite everyone knowing who it is and the fact he's been exonerated and is back playing football for Lyngby in Denmark!
Same thing going on with several other PL teams. Simply put, other teams have gotten better. Even the bottom teams are signing the best players from other leagues
Nottingham Forest for example. I believe for the season 2022/23 (in which they were promoted to the EPL) they bought a lot of players from Bundesliga clubs such as Union Berlin or Mainz 05, afaik.
If Everton under moyes had got that CL money or they were in the current climate saved and sold to a middle Eastern Prince with buckets of cash, everyone would stop showing sympathy and call them sell outs or a club with no history. Every fan should realise that all clubs, no matter their wealth, size or heritage can have their 15 minutes and then disappear. I hope they stay up, I hope they find their old form. If they got bought by someone with bottomless pockets, I'd be happy for them to, awful that they never got that European cup in the 80s
Watching the video as an everton fan: Terrible to see just how poor we've been run by owners who have 0 connection to football. The premier league is trying to set a president and we are the biggest club they are willing to enforce this on. Will the premier league willingly devalue itself by enforcing these types of punishments on bigger clubs? If the premier league allows for 777 partners to buy the club it shows just how flimsy a ground they stand on to enforce anything when they are allowing clubs to be run by shady owners and literal countries with endless cash.
who had the stupid idea to build a new stadium at the harbor? This is a predetermined fiasco. I hear what you are saying. But when I see those pictures...that stadium is burning money. Ohh, maybe that's why. nice video

@@brankovicbrankoni1527 Remember: Santos and Palmeiras were the most successful clubs in Brazil when you look at the number of national titles, including the regional ones.
This has to be one of the top 3 football documentary/video article channels BY FAR!! Been watching for a couple years now and am always happy whenever there’s a new vid. Also appreciate your sense of humour and political commentary.
You didn't mention Collina in the Villarreal away game coming out of retirement to disallow a Duncan Ferguson goal that was perfectly legal
American here. It's 3AM where I'm at. Maybe this HITC Sevens video will put me to sleep.
edit: Still awake, because HITC Sevens doesn't make bad videos 😎
Same. Work at 6. Trying to sleep but HITC sevens posted so that's not happening.
Everton's demise is tragic, they have always been a tough team to beat. Not imagining how far it has been.
I’m sure we would all appreciate a video on Santos
As in “What on earth is happening at Santos?”
They are relegated for the first time in their history as of today and you’re perfect for informing me why and how this happened
River Plate fans would be proud to have a friend. Remember that, this Argentina club had their darkest year in 2011, when they were relegated from top-tier football.
@@ezraezra2928 this would be wonderful to learn more about through curating by Alfie
A group of Everton fans were criticised for wanting rid of Moshiri, Kenwright and the rest. Now you know why they wanted change.
Most fans. Horrible mismanagement from an inept board.
they have more wins than chelsea
Hearing Alfie casually coming out with "R.I.P. Bozo" is all i need in life right now
Especially to a POS like Pissinge- sorry, Kissinger
I'm an American who's been supporting Everton since 2000 which was when Walter Smith was managing. Clearly not a glory hunter and haven't seen us win one piece of silverware in those 23 years.
the kissinger opening was brilliant
This was a brilliant look at the Everton situation, great work.
Nothing better than HITC sevens videos playing in the background whilst you load a brand new career mode
Dude, your videos always make my day with the detailed analysis and ever so subtle sarcasm. Keep em coming!
3:43 this is why I love this channel 😂👍
RIP bozo.
Lmao
They must have seen this because they just battered Newcastle 3-0
And now Chelsea 2-0
Wow Alfie so much content lately. And top notch too! Hope u know I'm watching them all!! & I don't seem to be alone , keep it going fella 😀😀
After this weekend, this video should have been "What on Earth Is Going on At Nottingham Forest", considering we just made Everton look like Man City.
Player X is Gylffi Sigurdsson btw.
Second time I’ve watched this video and first time since it was uploaded. “RIP Bozo” made me lol both times. Don’t ever change, Alfie
Why were English teams banned from Europe in the 1980s? Could you maybe make a video about it in case you haven't yet? Might be quite interresting and as a non-British viewer I was not aware of this at all
Heysel 1985. Don't question it.
Hooliganism, English teams were causing trouble everywhere for years, snowballing into what happened at heysel involving liverpool fans
English clubs were banned for five years due to the deaths of Juventus supporters in Heysel Stadium in 1985 UCL final. This ban didn't extend to the national team and youth national teams however. English clubs were reinstated only in 1990 after England cleaned up the hooligan mess.
Thanks for explaining! I've looked into this a little and am pretty shoicked I wasnt aware of that previously...
I love these sort of videos. Made me subscribe to the channel. The research done behind it is truly spectacular.
Do a video on Gary O’Neil? What a job he is doing at Wolves
No longer in the relegation zone. I think they will also win the -10 points appeal. But brilliant vid. Thanks.
Great video. 59 years a Blue. UTFT
RIP Bozo indeed, another Alfie classic.
As a Vasco fan that section about 777 really took numbers on my mental well-being. Best of luck to almost everyone involved
Meanwhile, Santos were relegated just right now 😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@ezraezra2928 yeah, I got some real mixed feelings about that. I'm happy Vasco wasn't relegated and I'm happy we're going to see the Salvador derby in the serie a again after so many years, but being Santos out just feels like a loss for Brazilian football
@@joahjoah92 Santos is a big club that saw the birth of football icons like Pele and Neymar; both being the country's record goalscorer. That's why losing Santos was such a national tragedy for Brazil.
777 are dreadful tho
Please can you do the downfall of santos football club now they are relagated after 111 for the first time in serie b in brazil
😂😂😂 The Henry Kissinger dig at the end was brilliant!
Hearing alfie say RIP bozo is the highlight of my life
Your videos just keep getting better
As an Everton fan I believe we deserve punishment for our board's incompetence but when a club gets deducted 9 points for entering administration it shows how harsh 10 points is for going over the limit by basically pennies.
Basically, we averaged a 6.5m signing each season we were over, going off the EPL's estimate, which would buy you, in today's market....well, not very much of an onfield advantage tbh
I hope this piece earns you an invitation for a guest appearance on Men in Blazers from Roger Bennett himself!👏
That Henry Kissinger joke 😂😂
I don't even know what to call it
the best intro you’ve ever done
This video has been long overdue hahaha. Feels like things are turning around for us now
In what ways things are turing around?
@jjunbeatable9522 well based on the games we've played we are about 14th, and that's with all the teams above us having played an extra game. The away form has massively improved. The squad is a lot more balanced. A clear style of play. The Board are being replaced as we speak. The Ownership looks like its about to change.
To top it all off this harsh points deduction has united a club that has been fractured for years.
@@connormitchell6446 oh alright that makes me slighly happy about our future
1980s Everton sounds like a whole vibe!
I’m a Liverpool fan and I must say that Everton would have won at least 1 European cup and maybe more they had a great team back then
👍
I thoroughly enjoy these videos and I might be a bit weary because of hbomberguy’s most recent video, but I’d like you to mention your sources a bit more clearly/have a bibliography in the description
good question
great summary even knowing a lot of it already
one of the new to me bit was low matchday revenue from a small stadium, which would explain a big commitment to build a bigger one
Don’t get me wrong, Everton 100% deserved some form of punishment and I don’t really feel bad for the 10 point deduction. HOWEVER it is unfair that Man City and Chelsea have continuously gotten away with their breaches
10 points is fair?? when administration only results in 9 points
10 points for going 20 mil above the limit (which is not a significant amount in today’s market) because of their new stadium construction is so stupid
especially because of the deals also lost through Ukraine
it’s a disgraceful decision no questions
@@hridyeshsaxena2009they deducted 300m off for Everton so they were really 320m off before the FA gave them all the free passes
City and Chelsea's breaches are still just allegations - NOT PROVEN!
You have to actually WAIT for the charges to be PROVED before punishing them!
-
Ditto for Player X btw who it seems we still cannot name despite everyone knowing who it is and the fact he's been exonerated and is back playing football for Lyngby in Denmark!
The Chelsea case isn't the same as man city as Chelsea have admitted they are guilty they reported themselves
Given their terrible record, a transfer embargo might actually have been an improvement for Everton
I love your videos much love from zambia❤
Same thing going on with several other PL teams. Simply put, other teams have gotten better. Even the bottom teams are signing the best players from other leagues
Nottingham Forest for example. I believe for the season 2022/23 (in which they were promoted to the EPL) they bought a lot of players from Bundesliga clubs such as Union Berlin or Mainz 05, afaik.
What a mess, what a god awful mess we have become
If Everton under moyes had got that CL money or they were in the current climate saved and sold to a middle Eastern Prince with buckets of cash, everyone would stop showing sympathy and call them sell outs or a club with no history. Every fan should realise that all clubs, no matter their wealth, size or heritage can have their 15 minutes and then disappear. I hope they stay up, I hope they find their old form. If they got bought by someone with bottomless pockets, I'd be happy for them to, awful that they never got that European cup in the 80s
Santos the biggest club in Brazil relegated for the first time. Would make for a very interesting what on earth is going on type video
Apart from Pele and the overrated Neymar, Santos is at the level of Everton, Flamengo and Palmeiras are bigger clubs than Santos.😜
Watching the video as an everton fan:
Terrible to see just how poor we've been run by owners who have 0 connection to football.
So long as they don’t have any further points deductions this season they’ll be fine this season.
Do you plan to do/could you do one of these on Santos? They were just relegated from Brazilian Serie A for the first time ever.
I say majority of the clubs have broken something financially. They just have better accountants to find loopholes
who had the stupid idea to build a new stadium at the harbor? This is a predetermined fiasco.
I hear what you are saying. But when I see those pictures...that stadium is burning money. Ohh, maybe that's why.
nice video
This is a good report! C+!
in 1977/78 i & 3 other lads - one being Paul Rideout , would scythe off secondary school year 3 during lunch & especially PE lessons cos Paul hated one of the 3 bloke PE Teachers . he could’ve bullied me for being unfit , crap at football & scruffy but never did because in spite of his obvious talent ,he wasn’t cruel & would have a laugh with us geeks 😁
Haven't watched this yet going to give a go after work, I'm assuming this is part 1 of 10? I don't know how you'd fit all of Evertons problems in to a 40 minute video
RIP BOZO 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Possibly the biggest laugh I’ve ever had in my years following the channel, quite brilliant
I was at the Ibrox leg of the round of 16 clash with Villareal... Thanks for bringing back some fond memories 👍 was a 2-2 draw with goals from Peter Lovenkrands and Thomas Buffel iirc.
You're great. Genuinely love the political commentary that you throw in. You ought to be more popular
you should make a video about this season's brazilian league. It was amazing
Rooney was great at Everton with his im everton till i die or what ever he said then he left not soon after . Im sure that went down well with the clubs die hards
That mustache at 8:00 (first from the right in the back row) is sick
i am 98% sure you do these in one take. If you don't, I really don't wanna hear about it
Any video that has the great right back "El Vasco" Arruabarrena is a good video to me.

Been waiting for this!
Can you do a what on earth is going on at union Berlin?
You need a Netflix series
If it's any consolation the 10 point deduction is unlikely to cause them to get relegated.
See's a new hitc video before my 30 minute lunch break ..... It's 40 minutes 🥲
Saw a Dinamo Bucharest - Everton snapshot over there
Apart from that though, we’re laughing
