It was so awesome meeting you man and also awesome that you put this feature length video together. This is one epic road-trip adventure and one awesome adventure rig.
He just said they were 4,000-$7,000. This one was 1200 and then he immediately spent $8,000.00 more and it will never be a usable or safe example for street driving. How is this a good series? It should be titled how to spend mommies money on stupid crap
That was a truly ludicrous purchase, a clearly over-ambitious trip and upgrade plan... PERFECT for filming and sharing! Shoot, you probably could have turned this into 3 videos or even more. GREAT video, couldn't believe you fit in so much in 17 minutes!
As someone who owns a 2002 Grand Vitara 4x4 V6 for fun, it was nice seeing Suzuki's lesser known vehicles get some love. Suzuki doesn't have a BAD car under their belt, they just had a bad rep because they got chased out of the US by lying journalists and thus, it's REALLY hard to find parts for these things now. The fact you found another one in a junkyard is completely insane. The small foot print and decent power and GREAT transmissions these things have mean they can go pretty much ANYWHERE, I take mine on trails not even a Tacoma or 2 seater Jeep can go.
Great video guys! Henry did an awesome job, love seeing new faces in the videos. I love seeing you guys take on challenges that might not be the best approach, but I think they represent the dumb crap real people that want to dink with there cars might try, and you get to see what to do when things don't go to plan. Honestly when I first saw this series posted I brushed it off but, seeing this condensed breakdown I might have to go back and watch the rest of it. Henry seemed super cool and passionate about his little Suzuki and I’m happy to see donut continue to explor the off-road side of car culture more!
This is by far one of the coolest Donut videos I’ve seen in recent years. Turning a rusted kei car into an offroader by driving through different states for upgrade kits is so ridiculous I can’t help smiling each point. You even got a new babe, which makes this the most video game journey out there!
I bought a Suzuki Jimny (similar car to the X90 but smaller) last year for my girlfriend, but we literally did the opposite to you :P It's tiny and easy to park so suited her perfect, but it came with lots of off-roading mods, so I removed a bullbar, snorkel, towbar, spare wheel and put summer tyres on it. I saved 160lbs and it went from getting 200 miles to a tank, to getting 300 miles to a tank. Works out at nearly 35 mpg (or about 42mpg for us in the UK)
No lie guys at Donut, I loved every second of this video and I wish you guys would make a series of this. I drove cross country, during the lockdown, a 92 honda civic. It was amazing! The AC didn't work but everything else was fine. ( had a tire blow out in Minneapolis but that owner of the shop stayed late so i didn't have to sleep in his parking lo t) At some point my Alternator died at just the perfect spot that I was able to fix it fine myself (thankfully i didn't have to slam it with a hammer but i could have probably got the rest of the way with some hammer slamming). Driving cross country is just so fun in a beater. I got around 45 mpg with my car and ill never be able to replicate that sadly. I miss that Honda. at one point i paid like $1.11 for gas it was insane
My one wish is that Donut wouldn't present these videos as "i forked over 4 grand" or "oof this sucks i had to spend 500 bucks on this." It's misleading. It gives the impression that people at Donut are spending their own money on these videos when they definitely aren't.
ive heard so many people say that about flushing trans, and i saved my subaru trans by doing a drain and fill and changed the filter, it wasn’t shifting at all and that fixed it entirely i drove it for over 100k miles after that
I think this is a great lesson in buying things sight unseen, especially in snow country. That said I can see the potential in this little rig. It may have some issues, but it makes it fun.
I'm sure you already know, but virtually all the mechanical parts are shared with the Geo Tracker or Suzuki Sidekick. I replaced the brakes on mine with the ones from a 4 door Tracker, they're larger and handle the larger tires better. Also swapped in the 5.13 gears from the 4 Door too, replacing the 4.63 the X-90 came with (mine is a 5spd). I'm getting 24-26 mpg, not sure why your X-90 is so bad.
Thanks for watching! I had a lot of fun making this
