The problem with old Civics is, it's impossible to get a clean one. Honda made them brilliantly, but now they're all held together with stripped bolts, hacked wiring, and cheap ebay parts. I soent a long time trying to find a clean, stock, adult-owned EF, and then when I finally did, it got stolen. When the police found it a minth later, it was no longer clean or stock.
Also, at leadt in the US basically 100% of Civics came with non-VTEC D-series engines. So you're looking at either doing a Day One engine swap, or sticking with a disappointingly weak platform.
IMO old Civics make the best stock daily driver and fuel economy cars in the world, ot one of the best downhill touge cars in the world. If I was getting into something like drag racing or doing big highway pulls, I'd pick something else. Even if that something else winds up needing a K swap, the benefits of the Civic are largely wasted on Texas style racing.

@@JETZcorp preach it. But I’ll add that the biggest reason to buy an EG is because of how easy they are to work on, and just how out of this world they are engineered ->everything is logical about the platform. Also they’re mechanically indestructible in stock form, and easy and fun to drive. It’s also a very attentive looking vehicle. At the end of the day though if you want to engine swap an EG, convert to AWD, rebuild it with a dog box, or do anything else that doesn’t require welding or body work; it can be done in a weekend with rudimentary knowledge on a 20 year olds budget, with a set of metric craftsman sockets and wrenches.
It’s truly a shame that platform didn’t have a longer production life ->I get it, it weighed 2000lbs and needed 700lbs of steel and airbags to qualify it for road safety in the 2000’s, but it’s still a black eye to the industry as a whole that the EG and EK were scrapped.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp ปีที่แล้ว

@@drewski5730 I had an EG and honestly didn't find it particularly easy to work on. They're easy to engine swap, but for general maintenance it's been much nicer working on other cars like Saturns, Escort ZX2, and my 5.9 Dakota R/T. All of those were notably more powerful (the Saturns were lighter too) and in stock form handled better. The EG chassis had better bones than any of them, but it would have required major surgery to tap into it. But the car FELT nice, was absurdly efficient (until I got my 70mpg Insight), and was easy to sell. It was over-engineered in the ouvre of little hatches, but I wound up going the Miata route. From the factory with even more advanced suspension geometry, full alignment capability, Bilsteins, torsen diff, 6-speed, and a DOHC engine that fuel cuts at 7,800. All stock, dealer serviced, girl-owned. Since I don't need back seats it's a really attractive package.

I would say that the new Hyundai i30N is really alot car for the money, considering the price compared to it’s rivals. It’s perfect for daily use as it goes really smooth and quiet on the roads and it shifts smoothly and nice with their self-developed 8-speed DCT when you drive it in ”normal” mode, but when you put in in the ”N” or ”Custom” Mode your car is 100% ready for trackday use, or fun in the traffic use! They have really focused on driving pleasure & fun features in their sporty cars. It may not be the fastest around the track compared to some rivals but the feel is absolutely fantastic & it has by far the best original exhaust sound of the hothatch rivals in my opinion. One of the favorite things about the car is that it has a boost button on the steering wheel that causes the car to overboost & go completely crazy in the gearbox among other things, it goes completely wild & also gets an extra 50nm which lasts for 20 seconds with an inciting countdown shown in the display. Then the car needs a cooldown before the next use so that it doesn't overheat & tear the stuff. I've never driven a more fun front wheel drive car, it feels like a racing video game…
I must say that Hyundai has really done a good job with their performance cars, it’s really impressive.

Ya the BRZ is really underrated, I’ve worked for Subaru for years and the only issue is they are not turbo but they handle amazingly. They already come with a high pressure fuel system so you just pop on a turbo and Cobb tune that thing and you got everyday car that can also race.

We don't have "86's" in the states.
You have to buy the BRZ or Scion FR-S

I traded my frs for a SS camaro. I learned a lot in the frs. The camaro feels like a frs with double the power. Even though I love my camaro there are days i miss that underdog fighter spirit of the frs.
I made a profit when i sold the frs. The salesman's son bought it before i even left the dealership.

Wow, I just looked up P plate laws...so strict! In NZ, you can legitimately drive a 2000hp car by the time you turn 16, on a restricted licence (ie no passengers and home before 10pm) 😂

I’d rather the 130kw/ tonne rule over that curfew tbh. We can drive all night if we wanted to but no passengers under the age of 25 between 11pm-5am.

The absolute king is a 20+ yo 3-series BMW.
Even if you piss broke and your shit is out of money, you can get one for a fraction of the cost of a BRZ or GT86

  • @will4621

You can go even cheaper with the Scion FRS, it has a bit less horsepower, but its a few thousand cheeper and it's the exact same car as the 86 and the BRZ

I think Mustang jumps out to me. They comport themselves well all the way from Texas Mile to autocross and touge. Cars like the 86, Civic, Miata etc are awesome and definitely my kind of thing, but dang if you live in Corn Country you'd be wishing you got a Camaro instead. We have a lot of places 1,200mi from the nearest twisty road.
