I just got one of these a couple months ago. For years I've been shooting a 50 year old Remington Model 582 bolt action .22 with iron sights. Fun rifle but not really worth putting a scope on. I decided to get a Ruger American Rimfire ($350 at Cabela's here in Omaha) and put a scope on it. I added a pic rail to simplify mounting the scope. The glass is a Burris 3-9x40 Droptine Rimfire scope. That was about $120 at Scheels, plus rings and caps. Scheels installs any scope you buy from them for free so that's a great service. Rifle, scope, pic rail, rings and caps, I'm at about $550. I just need a bipod now. I've taken it to the outdoor range I'm a member at a couple times and I got it dialed in at 50 yds pretty well. Great fun and very affordable to shoot. Since I also have the 10/22 rifle, I already have a bunch of 10 rd rotary mags and a few 25 rd mags. I was looking at the Savage, Bergara and CZ rifles too but since I already have the mags, it simplified the choice. I'm a fan of their products anyways as I also have the American Hunter 308 bolt action, Mk IV 22/45, 10/22 and now my American Rimfire. I should buy their stock. :-)
Really good rifle, @ 2.01 you dry fire it twice, inadvisable with a rimfire, the firing pin will eventually peen over the edge of the chamber and result in failure to extract stoppages.
@@buildyourarsenal Certainly not a big issue but I have seen a couple of rifles [over many years] with the fail to extract issue, I suspect that they were repeatedly dry fired by kids or whatever. Thanks for the effort you put into the vid.
The 22 bolt action gives a wide range of ammo choices not practical in a semi auto. Low power sub Sonics and even shot cartridges that will not cycle in the 1022 work well in the bolt action. Single loading is much easier also.
Where are you getting $500? The base model is like $300-$350, which is the model he has in this video. The "Target" model is $500, the one with the 18" bull barrel. I have the Target model in 17hmr, paid $550 for it. With Hornady Vmax it shoots quarter size groups at 100 yards.
I regret buying my American Rimfire. The magazine does not line up with the center line of the chamber so consequently the ammunition gets hung-up when the nose of the bullets hits the left side of the chamber. Ruger refuses to fix it. Garbage company!
@@buildyourarsenal Yeah me too. It cost me $144 to ship both directions to Ruger's authorized repair center, $70 labor, and $68 for a new stock. The thing is in brand new condition and the gunsmith told them as much. I hope the stock is the issue and it fixes the problem. Another thing the gunsmith suggested was the holes drilled into the action that mates the rifle to the stock might be off but they won't know for sure until they try the new stock. In which case I might as well scrap the rifle.
Garbage company? Ruger's customer service is second to none. I would assume you've been a garbage customer before I would assume Ruger has been a garbage company.
Kidd makes an aluminium billet magazine plunger which fixes this problem. It tightens up, magazines and corrects feeding issues. Video is on TH-cam on very easy installation

@1977Yakko Have you taken a look at the new Springfield 2020 rimfires?
@@buildyourarsenal I can't say I'm aware of them but I'll look into their options.
Made my triger as light as I could think it went down to 3lbs. Short crisp and delicious
Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for commenting. I don’t typically dry fire rimfire firearms, but doing it twice for a video isn’t a big deal.

I just got one couple days ago and took it out to shoot today. It shoots 11 inches low and 8 inches to the right.
You should definitely contact Ruger then. Their customer service is outstanding.

Thanks for commenting. Good points.
Trigger is decent, but not amazing. Timney offers an upgrade.
Agreed! Thanks for commenting
500 dollars? Ruger has lost their mfng minds!
Are you thinking it's overpriced or underpriced?
@@buildyourarsenal I'm sure it's a fine firearm but in my opinion it's a bit steep for what it is.

About $200.00 too much

keep politics out of guns; those who mix them are lame-os
So you’re anti-2A?
Guns are a huge political topic whether you like it or not.
sounded like a paid commercial. Didn't really learn anything
Thanks for the fan mail!

@texaspatriot9159 Absolutely agree!
I really don't like bringing politics into this.
I really don't care that you don't like it.
Noted, moving on.

That's awful! I'm surprised Ruger isn't standing behind it.

Keep the politics crap out of the video stick to the topic
Nope, I'm good doing what I want with my videos on my channel.
@@buildyourarsenalso are you going to say the same thing about the other guy’s son in law who got billions from the Saudi’s?
@mr_evil_overlord5 My channel, my rules. Why's that such a problem for you?
