It's well made and accurate for the price, I've seen videos of guys doing things to improve accuracy on these rifles like installing timney triggers and taping the bidding blocks with aluminum duck tape to increase the contact surface for better bidding.
I bought one ($370.00) just to see what it will do, and boy, it did its job excellently. I installed Vortex PST 5-25x scope and went back to the range with CCI/SV, Wolf Match Target, and Norma TAC-22. CCI and Norma TAC-22 both shot it the best at 50 yards. Back to the range now at 100 yards (nobody but me, so I put everything aside and concentrate focus) group size .661" (5 shots). I am 71 now but then 70 (PTSD - Vietnam veteran), never again, hard work! Worth the money. Installed Timney trigger, Anarchy Outdoors bolt handle, and scope base.
I bought one for $501 CAD Have a 4-12 scope on it and can make one hole in the paper with 5 shots somewhat consistently at 50 yards. It shoots best with CCI copper hollow points. I just bought 5000 rounds of it today haha
Great channel Josh it's great to see ordinary off the shelf rifles being reviewed. I personally prefer that than your highly modified rifles .I really liked the earlier reviews of the standard CZ527 MTR with different brands of ammo.
300 bucks? Absolutely. 300 dollars is a weeks worth of groceries now. So I’d say the Ruger is cheap. But just a tad more and you could go with a sporter or even a stainless sporter. Which will probably be my kids first rifle. Nice channel man!
Great video, Josh. Nice to see a review of some less expensive equipment. I’ve had mine for over five years now and absolutely love it. Have it sighted in at fifty yards and with Aguila super extra copper plated hollow points can shoot .4” groups, consistently. Bolt action is smooth, trigger is good. Love it!
I have the same rifle in 22wmr. I tried multiple brands/weights of ammo, all cycled fine. I found the CCI 40gran HP Varmit held the tightest groups, placing 15 rounds in a 1.5" group at 100yards.
Thanks for reviewing some equipment that’s a lower price point! From what I can see they go for closer for $400 in my area. This isn’t a big deal but since it’s closer to that higher price point it which makes the cz more attractive IMO
Shot about like the one I had. Though I have learned that i believe those wild flyers every now and again comes from the rotary magazine. Though very reliable I am not sure it is the best magazine design for accuracy. I would tend to have a lot of lead build up on the magazine feed lips. So I think those flyers came from shaving the freedom pill upon feed.
Have the same gun bought second hand. De burr the bolt and the bullet feed face and polish mag feed lip to avoid projectile damage when feeding. Bolt shims. Check barrel float. Shoots like yours with eley match and skrm without the fliers.
I sometimes wish I went for the Ruger American over their precision rimfire, as companies have chassis for the Ruger American, but not the precision rimfire. I believe the actions are just about the same minus the trigger and safety. I ended up with a lh cz 457 though, and after doing all the "standard" mods, it is a very beautiful shooting firearm
I appreciate your videos, great content. I think it would be cool if you reviewed some older vintage 22lr target rifles like Winchester, Remington, Mossberg, etc. Compare them to the newer rifles.
I have the same Ruger in 17HMR and shoots about the same @ 100yds. The V-block receiver to stock is very good, but the forearm doesn't allow for the barrel to free float. That I think is one of the issues with the rifle. Free float the barrel, and you could see better accuracy.
Great video. Four years ago, I brought the American in .22lr, and I am amazed how well it shoots at 100 yards with cheap bulk Federal 40 g ammo subsonic. It's not as tight as my Tikka T1x or the CZ457, but WTH . It is my go-to rifle. I did replace the stock with Boyd's laminated rapid sale stock. I just love it. Thank you for sharing!
I’m looking to get into small game hunting with my father, he is an experienced hunter that hunted in Mexico with his father, that being said all his equipment is in Mexico, practically impossible to have it imported to the United States. Yes the accuracy is there for the ruger but how is the fire power does it have enough power to 1 shot varmint and birds ? Small game do you recommend as a first hunting rifle ? Or is there other better options at this price point ?
I have a Savage FVSR 22 in a Boyds stock no alterations. It shoots like a 300 dollar gun. Best I ever did was with Federal HV Match at 100 yards. I wasted plenty of Lapua, SK, RWS trying to shoot this thing accurately or lets say like a target rifle. I would get those fliers sometimes completely into a different zip code and I don't understand why. I will say one thing though it feeds and ejects better than a 1600 dollar Anschutz 64 I had especially the ejecting. When I go plinking it's the one I take and don't care what I shoot in it.
I have a Ruger PRF. I removed the big trigger spring, torqued to 35 in/lbs and added a Harrell's tuner. It is a 3/4moa rifle using Eley SABR. Have not spent enough time tuning it yet due to my love/hate relationship with my new 457 Varmint. Added a tuner to it yesterday. Starting to show promise. Weather has been too windy.
3/4 moa at what distance? My best 5 shot 5 group avg. was .355 at 50 with Eley match, but at 100 5x5 1.28 avg. with same ammo.First 3 shots in this series was under .7 always seem to get 1 or 2 fliers to ruin it. I have had a few random .135-.140 groups @50 but never 5 in a row. Rifle is completely stock, would like to hear about trigger spring tho. All week long no wind while i'm working, weekends nothing under 10 mph
@@1202burton They don't shoot exceptionally well stock. Remove the trigger spring that adjusts pull weight. A tuner really works. I could see the groups open and close as I adjusted it. The Harrell's tuner is only $105 shipped. It utilizes the 1/2/x28 threads. I don't waste ammo shooting a lot of groups. I settle on two 5 shot groups at 100 yds followed by a single 10 shot group. Fliers are a way of life with .22s. We are not shooting with the action locked in a fixture. All it takes is a slight shift of the rear bag or a random gust of wind to produce a flier.
Great video. This is a great rifle to start with. I have one just like it that shoots.4 with a batch of SK Rifle Match. Mine came with no trigger spring and has 15 oz pull. Not a bad trigger.
That rifle shot better than the precision rifle in another guys video. Of course there was a different shooter and ammo, but I was surprised how well it shot, plenty good enough to have fun with. I need to shoot what I have, but I enjoy your videos and want a nice 22lr that an adult can appreciate that shoots well but not so ammo specific or expensive as the PRS stuff you shoot.
Josh! I would really like you to do a video of you going over the Arca lock system and bipods you run specifically. And the arca rails you run. I have Harris bipods and I haven’t seen any videos on the assembly on how you make them attach to the arca system
Good shooting, Josh. If Only Ruger would offer a BX-style trigger over the “razor blade” they would have set themselves apart from Savage. Unfortunately, if you upgrade to a Timney the Tikka or CZ starts to make better sense. Just saying.
I've been on an old 22riflekick. Love the old actions. An $84 RS22 got me started. No 22 as a kid, H&R 12 Ga, at 14. 22's were for wimps, I was an idiot.
Just bought the stainless heavy barrel version of this. Can’t wait to try it out once I figure out which scope to go with. And yes, the fit and finish was a factor on my decision as well.
This is a fun rifle. I've had one for a year or two now as I was looking for budget friendly options for target practice. I also added a 10/22 and MkIV to my collection over the past couple of years as well. My ammo budget has been spared a lot of stress. As for the Ruger American Rimfire bolt action, it's your standard version with the 22" barrel. My eyesight isn't great (blind in one eye, trifocal to see somewhat functional in the other) but at 50 yds, I can do OK for a recreational shooter. Added a Burris Droptine Rimfire scope (3-9x30) that is perfectly adequate for 100 yd shooting should I decide to stretch my legs a bit and shoot farther than my normal 50 yd practice. Decent scope for the price ($140-$150 IIRC). Magpul bipod. Plus being able to use the same mags as my 10/22 is nice as well. I like to simplify my mag stockpile where possible. I've just been shooting some Federal 40 gr LRN that's in a blue box. Nothing match grade or anything but perfectly adequate for practicing as it's available in 800 rd boxes.
I tested a Ruger American Rimfire Target against a CZ MTR 20". At the time they were both about the same price. The Ruger didn't even come close to the CZ in accuracy. A friend of mine got a good deal on a RAR target and bought one. After a while he wanted to do a barrel change, until he found out what it would cost. He then exchanged it for a CZ.
I have the ruger american rimfire that we are upgrading my daughter from (if it had a threaded barrel it might of had some more life in it :) ) It has been the perfect rifle for teaching all three of my kiddos to shoot over the past 8 years (might be 7). Edited because I realize it was a version of the Ruger American Rimfire not a different series...my bad :)
Awesome shooting with that 22 ruger except for that one flyer every time you shot a group....its crazy that my 800mm barrel kit that I just bought from Utah air guns cost more then that gun its crazy that my air gun is more accurate then that rimfire or alot other rimfie and center fire guns I got some cousins that like to hunt and i do too with a 270 rem. you know they use 30 -06 you know 300 Win Mag 270-243 22-250 lol well awhile back one of my family members was making fun of me because I bought an fx impact mk2 PP 25 cal 700mm for $2,100 and when they first came out with the PP .... I told him lol I bet you my impact could out shoot your best gun you got which at the time was a 22-250 I forget the brand but it looked nice and was deck pretty good Nightforce scope Atlas bipod I mean you name it and it had it we go out to the ranch and put some targets up at 100 150 200 yards and my fx gun shooting 40 gr varmint knockers at 990 fps out shot his gun over and over lol 😆 he was pissed off ....making all kinds of excuses man it was crazy lol anyway he has not seen my fx m3 800mm with the barrel kit and 700cc bottle yet but when he does he'll probably get scared lol anyways I thought I'd share that with you thanks for sharing besafe buddy
I just bought, about 3 weeks ago, a Howa 1100, Yes Sir - the worst reviews of anything on you tube EVER....I think...lol... that said - feed issues fixed in 1 or 2 minutes, then, did a simple bedding fix, took about 15 minutes & it will run with that Ruger you have there as far as groups go, minus the wild flyer, using sorted CHEAP "Match" ammo. It maybe in the way I measure/sort AND manipulate the oddballs that run out of spec. from the majority out of a box measured. It is something I was told about as a kid when I shot NRA 22 comp. over 45 years ago but had never tried till now, but, before I go making a video or explaining it, I want to prove it to myself more extensively, aswell as to some shooting buds. Thanks fer sharing your videos, enjoy watching.
i have the 22” version unthreaded. it shoots the lights out but from the factory it had a burr on the underside of the bolt face that would scratch the piss out of the next round in the mag every time i cycled the bolt. Often times, the bolt would engage with the next round so heavily that it would kick the rim out of the extractor groove and leave my round halfway in the chamber. I cut (yes, CUT) the burr off with a razor blade, then sanded it down, used a leather strop to get it finished. then tightened up my extractor with a pair of pliers and have since left those issues behind me. now it’s a rifle i can actually trust, however i would certainly be aware that the QC is lacking pretty heavily at that price point, and it’s worth inspecting your rifle before you buy it in a shop, especially if you don’t have the tools or ability to fix an issue like that.
Glad you had the know how to correct it yourself. Elbow grease and skills are painfully lacking these days unfortunately. Sounds like you got a good shooter and a good story to go with it.
@@PursuitofAccuracy thanks man, i also got a healthy dose of understanding for budget rifle quality control. the skills/know how to do something like that is a double edged sword though. if everybody just fixes their own issues it takes some incentive off of the manufacturer to have strong QC. but at a certain point, some things are faster/easier to do yourself than sending your rifle off for god knows how long to have it returned in a potentially identical condition.

Mine wouldn't group on a piece of paper at first. After about 50 rounds, I had a 6inch group at 25 yards. Then after another 150 rounds it tightened up.
I purchased one about 2 weeks ago and only went to my local range to sight in an inexpensive scope I picked up from there as well. I have to say I love the rifle and enjoyed shooting it. I hope to go to an outdoor range and push it a little further.
I own a Ruger 22lr in a Boyds At One stock. It is not free floated at this point. Thinking about having it Pillared & Bedded as well as free floated. Do you think it is worth the money & effort? What holds the Ruger from being more accurate? Thanks, Dennis.
I would like to have your opinion on the Savage B22 16.25inch barrel with a synthetic stock. Thank you for all your fantastic videos... love your channel. I've learned a tremendous amount from you.👍🇺🇸
Hello, I live in Southern California and purchased a ruger .22lr bolt action for my 12yo daughter. It takes a standard 10/22 rotary mag (same as her magnumlight) it’s very hard for her to cycle the bolt. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do? Thanks
Try it with no ammo, if its still hard to cycle its the action, you can work it a bunch to try and smooth it out. If not its the mags and all you can do is try different mags
@@PursuitofAccuracy I’ll try that. If it’s the ramp (that’s what it seems like to me) is that something I can have altered? I’m bummed. I thought the bolt would slow her down and give her practice resetting but with it being hard to cycle and the scope being close it’s just a pain. Appreciate the reply….Warren
Questions about the scope. Would you prefer a big objective lens for a 22lr more than any other caliber? I feel big recoil rifles bang the bottom of the scope and possibly lose zero
Hello Josh, I like your videos and it helps me allot understanding stuff. I will be going to the gunstore tomorrow to buy myself a bolt action rifle in .22lr I am still not certain and maybe you can give me the right push. I have 3 rifles where I want to pick out. The CZ457, the Tikka T1x and the Ruger American Rimfire. Your thoughts please? Thanks!!
@@PursuitofAccuracy thanks, just got home with my new CZ457. It felt better in my hand and when I shouldered the rifle it was much nicer than the T1x. I like the weight and also like the 20” thick threaded barrel. Thanks for the advice and the nice videos you posted and going to post later on.
Shot pretty decent actually. Most of the American line is pretty decent for the money. 👍 Is the flyers from the buttery smooth light and crisp 19lb trigger? 🤣🤣
I bought one of these not super long after your video came out and two things I’ve found that really help tame those fliers are ammo choices and leading the barrel. I’m easily 500+rds into mine and I’ve never cleaned the bore, between that and using mostly CCI and Aguila ammo, it seems to really like it, from the super hot stuff to the standard velocity I get dimesized at 25yds and within a quarter at 45yds. Definitely a tough utilitarian rifle just like it’s semi-auto cousin the 10/22. Great mags, decent accuracy, and 100% reliability make this a go to truck gun for me.
as a left eye dominant shooter do you think i should get left or right bolt gun, seems like the perpetually out of stock 457 left hand and b14r are only left handed options not going over 2k

Surprisingly good. How big the circles ?
I was surprised by the groups. What ammo did you use?
Just wondering if you encounter parallax issues using that scope on a .22LR. Great channel.
No its adjustable parallax so no issues
I purchased one about 2 weeks ago and only went to my local range to sight in an inexpensive scope I picked up from there as well. I have to say I love the rifle and enjoyed shooting it. I hope to go to an outdoor range and push it a little further.
Good video, I wonder if the target model would shoot better/more consistent since it is supposedly bedded. eg. Ruger American model 8367??
I own a Ruger 22lr in a Boyds At One stock. It is not free floated at this point. Thinking about having it Pillared & Bedded as well as free floated. Do you think it is worth the money & effort? What holds the Ruger from being more accurate? Thanks, Dennis.
I would like to have your opinion on the Savage B22 16.25inch barrel with a synthetic stock. Thank you for all your fantastic videos... love your channel. I've learned a tremendous amount from you.👍🇺🇸
I dont have enough experience with one to really say
@@PursuitofAccuracy thank you for the quick response..

Considering getting one

@@warren6172 im not real tuned up on those mags and the feed ramps etc unfortunately
If it will do that on the regular.....not bad. I would suggest checking to see if the bullets are being damaged during feeding
I did a vid on bullet damage and accuracy, worth a look
Do you have a video on the savage?
I do but its old and worth revisiting. Picking one up very soon
@@PursuitofAccuracy thanks, I have A ruger American rimfire and just Bought a Tikka T1X last week and I am really enjoying it
@@alanegary156 ive been looking for a t1x for a while
@@PursuitofAccuracy Lafayette Shooters had four of them a few weeks ago and Austin‘s outdoors had one left after I purchased mine
Mine does well with Fed auto match and Aguila. Still not as good as my 452 CZ but fine for a squirrel hunt.
I have one of these in .22WMR. Absolute laser @ 50 meters.
if you get a chance, will you please do a video on the savage mark ii tr? thank you!
Questions about the scope. Would you prefer a big objective lens for a 22lr more than any other caliber? I feel big recoil rifles bang the bottom of the scope and possibly lose zero
I prefer long range style optics for 22lr. A quality scope shouldnt lose zero under recoil
I've got one for squirrels, light, accurate enough to 50yds. It'll work for the money.
This video came out a year ago, but I can't find this rifle almost anywhere, and where I do find it, it's listed for $500!
Hey josh what rear bag are you using, I see you use it on all your videos, whatever is inside must be good
Haha its the game changer pint size heavy fill
Hello Josh, I like your videos and it helps me allot understanding stuff. I will be going to the gunstore tomorrow to buy myself a bolt action rifle in .22lr I am still not certain and maybe you can give me the right push. I have 3 rifles where I want to pick out. The CZ457, the Tikka T1x and the Ruger American Rimfire. Your thoughts please? Thanks!!
Handle both the 457 and the t1x and pick which you like more
@@PursuitofAccuracy thanks, just got home with my new CZ457. It felt better in my hand and when I shouldered the rifle it was much nicer than the T1x. I like the weight and also like the 20” thick threaded barrel. Thanks for the advice and the nice videos you posted and going to post later on.
Results look much better than the Springfield 2020.
Lol yes.....5pm est today i got a video coming out......😁
Where’d that handsome green stock come from?
It came with the rifle, got it used from a local guy
I feel pretty good because I shoot slightly farther apart only at 100 yd with my Ruger 10/22!
I considered one but thought if I ever wanted to upgrade the barrel it wouldn't be the way to go.
True
Shot pretty decent actually. Most of the American line is pretty decent for the money. 👍 Is the flyers from the buttery smooth light and crisp 19lb trigger? 🤣🤣
Lol actually that trigger wasnt bad. Shot looked and felt good, but then......zing
What's scope do you have on that rifle? Look nice
Element titan 5-25
Josh, just curious as to what triggers you use and if they are single or 2 stage.
Timney and bix n andy
Single stage flat shoes
Damn, he shoots bolt actions really fast!
Is the Predator a current model? I don't see this rifle listed on the Ruger website. What's the difference between a Predator and regular?
I think just the stock and marketing
Is there any aftermarket stocks like a boyed at one ??😊
Avoid the boyd at one my friend
I put mine in rimfire hunter Boyds
we bought one for the kids to use for our NRL club and thought it was the best buy and smoother action over the savage, did you adjust the trigger?
Yeah shes as low as she can go
@@PursuitofAccuracy yeah its pretty rough lol
@@Picit13 ive felt much worse sadly lol
I have one of these and it’s a shooter
The sauvage will out shoot it? What does that mean? More accurate?
You can stick a $1,200 scope on there and make production class!
Lol true 🤣🤣
Great rifle for $300. Lot's of Love from the American Hillbilly and Hillbilly Nation, Hillbilly Up.
Can you test the savage mark ii fv sr
. These 18” barrels are for young shooters?
The random flyer is prob just the ammunition. Typical .22lr ammo
as a left eye dominant shooter do you think i should get left or right bolt gun, seems like the perpetually out of stock 457 left hand and b14r are only left handed options not going over 2k
I see a lot of lefties shoot a right bolt very well
At what distance and what ammo?
Had 2 of them. One shoots like a laser and the other is a tomato stake and that’s too much praise
Hey mate what size is your scope and your ring height ?
34mm medium height
have you tested the bx-15/bx-25 magazines with it?
I actually gave this rifle away with a scope to a youth shooter
$300 for the rifle but how much for the scope and what is it?
Its an element titan, not sure what it retails for right now
Got 1 of these almost paid off in layaway
Hey boss, where did you snag yours at?
I got mine used
This beats the springfield 2020 rimfire
Yes by far
I definitely think it is worth $300.
Perfect little gun for a hobbit! Lol cool video.
