Thanks for the compliment! Parrying is a pretty niche topic, so I wouldn't be surprised if the view count stays pretty low on this one, but that's fine. I just wanted a video out there that compiles all of this information cause parry vids I've seen kinda just say "Parry when their arm is raised." And end it at that!

Parrying the wall was absolutely a game changer
Everyone always forgets that Thop's barrier deflects golden stars (and incantations in general). Stormwall is still a meme though.

Well done, this is very detail and easy to understand for most gamers. No wonder i was also being kicked by crucible knight seeing how small the parry window is. But i also did finally win by using mid shield to parry, so....maybe i can pat myself as well.

Amazing video bro thank you. Another tip with carian retaliation you can parry almost any magic/incantation projectile ash of war. The only one i found that it doesnt work with are the triple rings of light. Soo many ashes, you can parry the black knife, lightning bolt, malikaths blade, moonveil, reduvias daggers, etc along with projectile incantations even Elden stars.

Another thing, there is actually another ash which can parry that no one has ever noticed: Thops Barrier. That can block magic, incarnation AND weapon! This is my recent discovery. Can Carian Retaliation block incarnation? I am not sure. But checking the time I feel that the frames data is more closer to a medium shield normal parry, unlike Carian Re/Golden. Can you add Thops Barrier into your research? I do vids myself and I understand what it feels when I found I missed one thing when I actually want to cover everything in the game!!! So no worries. There are so many things to explore in this game so even this one is missed I still like your vid.

I played “Baby’s first dark souls” aka Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom
Coming into elden ring feeling confident about “I’ll just parry everything like I did to Lynels and Ganon!”
I felt disappointed that it’s a lot harder and I can’t have a safe parry and a good blocking shield
But this changes everything! Thanks so much, anything to try to give my elden ring parries as similar frames to Link’s Parries

Really helpful video thank you. And did any of the shields with ash of war get nerfed? Like less parry frams or something? I know that carian revelation got nerfed but only damage wise if im not midtaken or did they give it a tighter parry window too now?

Great channel and video. I’ll have to test, but I thought you had to have ‘No skill’ assigned to your shield to be able to one hand (a weapon like Great Stars) and still use its ability (Prayerful Strike). Subbed.

Sadly, fp wise, i have to go with the golden parry for fashion on the brass shield, tree sentinel set with guardian swordspear and, ofc fias ending 😉
OK this helps somewhat. Although presents things extremely confusing. Especially early on keep mentioning medium shield vs buckler or small. But never mention buckler vs small. So yes the info is good to know which shield to use. But still never explains how to use parry at all.
Going through a perry only kills run . Golden parry ash of war helps

I only use parry on my cleric, that way I can miss a parry and recover from it no problem with heals later

My bad on that one. I covered a bit the timing on when an attack needed to connect at the shield section and the frame data visually shows when a hit should land, but I suppose I should have gone over the timing a bit more in the early section. Thanks for the suggestion!
I find timing to be more of an experience thing that can't be absorbed through a vid. All of the information on the ways to make your parry window 2-3x larger I feel are the best ways to drastically help with parry success.

It should not affect as your game is slower even though you have less frames to work with.

Do Storm Wall and Thops's Barrier have the same frame data as Carian Retaliation?
Nope. Storm wall is like a medium shield parry and Thops' barrier is slightly worse. Carian Retaliation is by far the best parry tool(along with golden parry if you roll that way)
Man, I thought I was garbo at parries in this game. While I may be bad, turns out I was working with a 5 frame, delayed parry window for my 100% damage reduction medium shield.

I hate myself. I’ve been using a medium shield to be more specific the carian shield for parrying for atleast 75 levels now

Forgot to mention that golden parry has more range, you can parry people out of hit range if they attack but can't hit you. Parried one of the beasts in faram azula when it attacked and it was at the edge of the golden swipe effect of the parry

Medium shield is not that hard to parry with and you get much better defense. When I miss the parry its because I messed up a couple frames wouldn't have made the difference.

Once you realize Elden Ring is not a parry-game like Sekiro, you’ll be able to do the stance damage you were hoping to do. So many bosses are not parryable and with the delay into active frames, quick attacks that are technically parryable are not really reactionally parryable since your response time needs to be even quicker than in Sekiro.
Like how you’re supposed to realize early in Sekiro that it is not a dodge/roll game, you’re supposed to realize that this is not a parry game.

TLDR: normal parry is for Chad's, golden parry is mid and carian retaliation is for unskilled window lickers who like to soft cheat the game.
