I’ve just discovered your channel, I think I’m going to hang around for a while, I particularly like both of you narrations, and the clear filming, not forgetting to mention your intelligent understandable and relevant content. 👍😎👍
What a sweet boat! Definitely got such a great foundation to start with. I love to watch and listen to your objective comments on the layout and setup (helps me for the future). It is also super fun to see all the goodies you two are finding within the boat along the way (almost like Christmas throughout the summer) :-) Can't wait to see her hauled out next week and get even more insight as to this build. Wish you two the best!
OMG 😱, JibSea II crew‼️ Sooooo exciting to see all the goodies and the quick repairs you found. Excites me for what we may find as we move forward with our mission project new-to-us boat. Travis is sooooo talented in manufacturing new boat parts and the new water tank view ports are just an example. B. R. A. V. O. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨
With swapping the batts to AGM I'd verify the charging profile on the Victron. Make sure it's not set to charge the wrong Battery Type and cooking them. Also if the boat doesn't already have one maybe look for a small accumulator tank for the water supply. Makes life better. Football sized. You could put it next to the water filter or at the back of one of those super deep cabinets. ;) With the extended high latitude remote voyages you plan I'd look into some sort of fuel polishing setup as well. They've become much more compact in recent times. Especially if your heating is all diesel when off grid. That step down to the galley may have had some sort of anti slip grip tape overlay, explaining the different shading/texture. Congrats on the new boat!
Awesome guys, well done on your new to you boat. I love to see how you both have grown into the sailing world. I bet you've inspired many would be sailors to follow the course. Well done and keep up the great channel.
Very cool review! -- SUGGESTION -- regarding the three water tanks and three fuel tanks, take a look at the explanation given by Kraken Yachts (on youtube) as he goes into how these three tanks are set up and used. Very cool setup and I suspect that your sailboat tanks are, in theory, set up the same -way. If so, it is a great system and will make your sailboat even more blue water ready.
This is going to be fun to watch. Especially how you guys make your kitchen more functional to your liking. I bet y'all prefer the cooler climates than the tropical climates. I wonder if it is as difficult and expensive to heat the boat as it is to cool it. You guys are great. Keep the videos coming.
Its called a "Gant line". And please tie it off with a hitch after you cleat it in case the cleat decides to part. You are risking your life on a tiny little shackle and a few screws. You need to toss that that whole cleat. Put on a main sheet block with a locking cam on it and then tie it off when you get to working height. Its a better system, because what if you loose grip while pulling yourself up?
Super groovy episode. Once again let me just say how exciting it is to see that you have a new sailboat, and that it looks grand. It looks like it is going to be able to take you guys safely around the world. Nice to see you guys are already fixing the little problems your sailboat has, with what looks like with ease. Again congrats.
Thanks Travis & Steph. I'm really liking Jibsea2 more now. You surely got a lot of great gear nsail, lines ect that came with the boat. Looking forward to next week and the first sail.
Good luck with the new boat. Nice to have the water and fuel tanks that allow for long trips. Suggestion: If you don't have yet a double-filter system for both water and fuel, consider the upgrade.
Great ideas for the galley. Certainly not much bench space atm. Love those pull out drawer fridge/freezers. Lots of time and work learning what you have purchased.
Good looking boat, its going to be so much more seaworthy and comfortable.Like the new water tank access covers. You have to be careful putting the garden hose in the deck fill because it can suddenly put too much water pressure inside your watertank
Travis, I have a few of the older lewmar portlights on my boat. Its is getting harder and harder to locate the special gaskets for them. may want to try to source some before it disappears.
Yep seen three boats get wet sailing heeled over and water getting drawn back either into the motor 😬 or the bilges.. and not getting pumped out before it starts coming over the sole.
Steph twice you used the term skookum, a real west coast native term, I remember ( 55 years ago) seeing it on a menu for a indigenous owned restaurant in North Vancouver BC, and it was the skookum chief burger which was monster of a tall 4 or 5 stage burger....it was delicious ....love the new boat, you will make it your own custom design in not time I'm sure ...cheers
Great video.. DIY was excellent great ideas to fix items on our boat.. still need to sell our house before we start our refit.. looks like a lot of work but hey it’s time well spent.. So happy for you guys..
Hi you two. We met in Bonifacio (Venture i). Congrats on your new boat; plenty of work ahead for you although working on any boat is always enjoyable (mostly ;-)
Thanks for sharing. Your boat , as it is, looks more luxurious than our house. Our sink set up is also the wrong way round, and iam a carpenter, but it will do for us. Can't wait to see you sail.
Travis & Steph, I am so excited for what’s to come. I can still recall your early videos when you crossed the Canadian / US border during COVID lockdown. Back then you claimed to be sailing newbies. I always love the way Travis explains his DIY projects. Perhaps it’s time for Travis to publish his own ebook!
It looks like the sink has an edge for fitting a counter/cutting board that could easily solve your space problem. You could even make it half or 3/4 the width so you could still use the sink and slide it back and forth. It would be easy to make from star board.
Careful with AGM on the ex-lithium system. Lithium charges at higher voltage. Can you reprogram the charge controllers on alternator and solar to match AGM?
hey guys like the boat since you're hauling out either paint them sides of the boat or buff the aluminum and put three or four coats of clear coat on it a nice shiny aluminum with clear coat that would be cool. Remember you through holes this is the time to replace all the through Hall when you're out of the water you know
If you have deisel heaters its best to run them off one specific tank so you dont run out of motor fuel ... If you have a single tank with a pick up its a case of cuttting the pick up pipe a lot shorter than motor pick up. Floating diesel bug becomes an issue without a pick up mesh filter. Im not sure how safe an intermittent blocking or restricted diesel heater would be.
Before any other comments, dude you are ripped. What does a food day look like for you? I am 54 but still want to be lean and healthy. Ok back to the video. Cool boat!
Good day eh. What is the brand of your new boat? And, research an LED ultra-violet system with a carbon filter. It will ensure your water is safe from bacteria and the LED bulbs are only on when there is flow. UVPURE is one supplier
Wait, what?? -- QUESTION -- It sounded like you removed lithium batteries and installed AGM... however, there is an almost zero chance that the lithium batteries could be bad. Either there is some sort of installation error and easy fix, or there is something very wrong, electrically, on that boat. There simply wasn't enough cycle days since new for those Lion batteries to have gone bad. Investigate before disposing as there is probably nothing wrong with them - maybe some sort of fuse needs reset or something? Something very weird going on. Certainly don't hook up new lithiums until you understand what happened to the old ones.
Hey, before you guys head out. Look for every connection of dissimilar metals. Stainless steel and aluminum dont agree with one another. Electrolysis will slowly corrode both metals at dissimilar rates. a rubber gasket and isolators will save you from some major headaches the original owners ran from.
Yes lithium batteries. Ummmmm filling the sink seems like a sketchy way to do it? Wow that is stupid loud when flushing. I am going to hang out to see what you redo and what ya get up to.
What a beautiful boat ! Congrats guys... Btw the lithium doesn't hold charge you say ? Is it maybe in sleep mode.. just wake them up.. maybe they are still good?
They were constantly plugged in and we think perhaps being in a continuous state of charge, could have killed them? We’re really not sure because they were good batteries!
@@SailingJibsea well they have their own BMS ..what does the multimeter say? If it says zero then the BMS have closed them(sleep mode) and you can wake them up easy now you got them pulled.them out the bank.. search on the www how to wake up lithium
The man child is getting to be quite adept at turning wrenches. When you crossed Lake Ontario I would have bet he would be fingerless by N.Y. We'll done Travis under Steph's supervision.
Does anyone feel like this whole change is really sudden and feels like they are discovering things about this boat that should have been found during a survey? The state of many of the systems makes me think they've got a massive amount of work ahead of them. If you are finding these types of plumbing issues with the water tanks, I can't help but feel like there are so many other issues waiting to be found. It feels like such an unusual decision for them. For example, it wasn't that long ago they got a new sail with their logo on it for the first boat. Wonder what prompted the change.
Yep we know that well on previousboat. But for an offshore passage flushing directly overboard, we wanted to set up a salt water flush first. Then we’ll plumb in fresh water bc we’ll want fresh going into the holding tank. This is just the initial stage

How does an aluminum boat handle lightning strikes?
Not sure tbh. Have read such contrasting info. One thing though, our persons may be safer.
Saltwater flush has a way stronger odor than a fresh water flush. That's the main reason people switch to fresh water.

Add a splash of white vinegar overnight or if left standing it also reduces stains from traces of waste.
