Here is the problem: The general public can download an app and see YOU and the drone. This is law enforcement information. The general public should not have access for OBVIOUS reasons. Fix this and we’ll talk. The general public has assaulted me twice while doing professional road survey work for the State of California. I will not compromise my safety for FAA control. NFG This is the hill I will die on.
@@highrider9168 That is why it is important to stop using Google products like TH-cam or worse, their search engine. If you want a voice, Rumble and X are the places to be.
Simple, then dont fly if you that scared or go to fria!
I wonder if you have an android phone and root it and get a program to change your GPS location if that would change your RID location as well? It maybe worth a shot to get root access to your phone.
Bro aint scared. He is doing this for work smh. @dougbarnowski5224
Those apps can see you for a couple of blocks. Better go hide.
Too bad the FAA couldn't have done this without giving the location of the pilot/operator/ground station. I wish the Remote ID module would only transmit the s/n and location of the drone within the area. Then give law enforcement access to a data base so they could match the s/n's with the owners info. I think it's dangerous and irresponsible for the FAA to broadcast the real time location of the ground station/operator/pilot, etc. Because there are so many people out there that could use the info to attack, rob (or worse) the drone operators.
Agreed.
I insure my drone for that reason. Can’t tell you the number of men threatening to shoot down my FAA registered drone, that has RID and a tail number. First it will be an FAA issue, then possibly a Penal Law issue, and then tortious interference of business practice in civil litigation. That is why I have an FAA license (thank you Pilot Institute) and fly responsibly.
It is called unequal protection under the law and is devoutly UN-AMERICAN and illegal. I am NOT putting myself at risk to the anti-drone nutcases out there.
I've had lots of weird interactions with drone Karens.. I think they will increase due to this.
Don't worry. The FAA isn't running around with a scale to weigh your drone. Neither are the local cops. The FAA has no way to enforce its rules without the aid of law enforcement. Unless you post your illegal flights on social media. I haven't met a single cop that knows what RID is or how to see if you are in compliance.
Most of them don't know about the constitution or law in general.
Where I live they don't care just don't bother anyone and if You meet a Karen just start flirting they love it 😂😂😂 I do 😂😂
If i meet a Pelosi ? or Janet Reno? what do i do?
@@JerryFallwell-bt3py tell them how nice their nails are and color lololol
Doesnt apply to those of us that do work with drones.
The Gov put bombs on drones and now we the club members need remote ID and pay the gov to fly our planes at our clubs, what a joke.
I am generally not an advocate of civil disobedience or violating the law, but this power grab will not accomplish what the FAA and DHS want.
RID is not ADD B and will not integrate drones into the US airspace system. Furthermore, an individual intending to do harm using a drone will either use a legacy one without RID of build his own.
Furthermore, for recreational pilots who do not hold a Part 107 liscense who own an old drone without RID, I suspect if you keep a low profile and you are not operating in an urban area you should be fine if you get my drift.
We’ve already hacked it-
They’re going to have to do better than this……
Nobody should comply with this unless your a commercial operator even then id resist compliance. For those flying drones as recreation this is not something you should comply with at all. Do not fly in airspace around airports or vital infrastructure its that simple. Its nobody's business what you doing with your drone or where you are while flying it. All this regulation when at the end of the day pilots have killed more people in the ground and in the air in the last year than any drone has in 20 years so ask yourself why is this necessary at all. The FAA should focus on the areas they oversee with aircraft operators and mfg not waste time on drones. Everyone should be asking what's the real reason for these laws and rules and why is goverment and law enforcement exempt from these rules but we have to abide by them.
I concur, why are they trying to make it everybody’s business where you’re flying
Although I see both sides, I agree with the general idea that alphabet agencies shouldn’t be regulating the public to this extent. They all need their power significantly nerfed.
I think u hit the nail on the head with the question "Why" these agencies are exempt while normal civilian affairs with drones are restricted, but i ultimately firmly believe that when these agencies put their grimy hands on something so free and beautiful as the hobby of flying drones it gets inevitably restrictive and ruined when they are involved. That goes with ANYTHING they touch. They will always use the superficial excuse of "Its for Your Safety" but ive learned over the years that when they say it, its complete Bullshit.
I can come up with many reasons why they are doing what they do but in the end its always either about Money/Power/Control... Rarely ever about the genuine safety of people.
All of my kwads are now 249g, all of them 👍👍🇺🇸
Lol just don’t comply easy
Mine too. I weighed my inspire 2 and it said 249g so we good
No night flying for you or are they all 249 g after being strobe equipped?
Tragically, I lost most of my drones in a boating accident…
I'm 63 this year. Started flying in 1976 and have built and flown everything for the past 46 years. So fortunate to own my own land and built a 400 ft runway. Nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile away. And I got FRIA approved. Life is good!
FRIA approved on your own land!! That’s awesome
imagine asking the feds for permission to fly your drone on your own land, this isn't the freedom I fought for thats for damn sure.
I have a cat that likes to get lost... Can I place the RID on the top of his collar?
As long as he’s over 250g
Federal Regulations in the past 30 years have stopped having fun in Merica. If there isn’t a regulation restricting your fun, just wait, it’s coming.
We are in AMERICA noone gave the FAA the right to take our right to flight away or regulated to this extent WILL NEVER COMPLY
No one at our park where I fly RC planes, including myself, will comply.
Just because it became mandatory it doesn't mean that people have to follow when it doesn't hurt anybody
Can't wait to go get all those free drones!
Really appreciate the thorough video once again. I just hate when I have to spend more money so I can just fly my dji mavic 2... The gov. really likes to make sure nothing is easy anymore.:/
Take a look at uasdoc.faa.gov/listDocs to find out if your drone is natively compliant.
@@PilotInstitute Yes but does that Firmware update needed brick the drone for use with third party apps such as dronezone or litchi?

Thank you for this video, i just bought DJI Air 3 drone and next week i am traveling out country do i need a remote id for this? If so, were is the cheapest and best place to buy one. Any suggestions? Thank you
You have to look at the specific country you’re going to. If it’s the EU, GOOOOOOD LUCK.
Do we need to carry documentation that our drones are compliant on the FAA RID DOC site?
No.
You dont need to or you can print out a copy of FAA compliant page of your drone ( uasdoc.faa.gov/listDocs)
Hello, I'm flying under PART 107 and I have four drones. I fly gen v1 Autels do I need a remote id for each drone or can I swap the remote ID from drone to drone?
Technically you’re supposed to have 1 RID tied to each serial number. They’re stupid expensive still so in order to stay legal, you’re going to have to spend quite a bit. I’ve decided to retire my smaller 2.5 and 3.5” FPV drones for the time being and I’m flying my RID equipped 5” for everything now. It’s faster, louder, less safe. But I’m staying legal.
Curious about what type of emergency status my mini 4 pro (or any standard RID) would be sending?
I’m thinking like, when it has lost connection with the remote, or if it’s forcing a landing due to battery depletion. But yeah I’m curious exactly when it would do that too
A little confused. I have a Mavic Pro v1 and Phantom 4 Pro v1 and have a Holy Stone RID module. Do I need to register the S/N of the RID with the FAA? Logged in to thier site showing my registration of both drones, but did not find a way to register the RID. Anyone have the link concerning this? Thanks.....
little late to worry now.........weve been talkin about this for a couple years. Loos like you need to do some research now!
Under "UAS Type" there is a drop down menu. Select "Remote ID Broadcast Module" If recreational register it separately, one module can be used on all your recreational drones. If part 107 each drone has to have it's own remote ID module unless built in.
I know it sounds dumb. But I just wonder if I fly a DJI mini 3 which under 249gr, just for fun. Do I have to registered anything or just the TRUST test is enough?
No need to register it and no need for remote ID in this case, but you need TRUST and you need to follow all the other FAA rules like altitude restrictions.
Would anybody happen to know if the DJI mavik pro 2 would need a module or can it be installed by updated software?
Mavic 2 Pro is RIDICULOUS compliant. You can verify here: uasdoc.faa.gov/listDocs
How is Dji Avata Compliant when it really was not made that way especially when it requires your phone to be connected on the older models ? 🤔
If you comply they will just keep coming up with more rules until they eliminate the hobby all together
Exactly. Next it will be all drones over 25 Grams.... then anything that flies above 3 feet from the ground. Never Comply or give in. Just like taxes, they slowly keep taking more and more until people say enough. Let the revolution begin.
Is there a reason the AMA logo was posted upside-down?

I need to know what remote i.d. I will need to be legal for my newly purchased standard phantom 4. Would anyone know ?
Any of them are legal
How do you confirm if my DJI P4P V2.0 that was firmware upgraded to Remote ID. It is shown as approved on the FAA Public DOC, but how do I verify that on my drone - this is not clear?
I have the same drone and would like to know this as well.
What are the first 4 characters of the serial number in the about page?
@PilotInstitute I'm waiting on mine to be returned from DJI due to gimbal issues, so I can't check. When I registered my replacement back in June, the 1st 4 were 11US . Would that change now to start with 1581F? I'll have to wait to check when I get back. Maybe @tjcambell811 can check his.
@4:50 it looks like a demolition derby from the '70s. Parts all over the ground and everything. 😂😂😂
For sure! You'd have to be crazy and/or rich to fly there!!
So, this is also a way to keep people from optionally registering a drone that is not required to be registered.
You'd think they'd like that having more data.
I WILL NOT COMPLY
That’s the spirit
I found the Holy Stone HSRID01 broadcast module worked out for my home built drones, I just tape it to whatever drone I'm flying because it is light enough and has its own internal battery.
not to mention you can adjust the code to where karen apps can't locate you
What is the range of remote IDs? Doesn't DJI also capture detailed flight information on their servers? Not only can the authorities track your active flights, but they can also access a complete history of ALL your flights.
DJI is a terrible company.
They were specifically complicit in creating this, and got in bed with the Feds early.
I would never give DJI a dime of my money for the same reasons I will never buy a Ruger rifle.
Anyone knows the app name on IOS? Something that is tested and really works?
Hi, I’m a beginner. What type of remote is a DJI FPV? Where is the serial number of this type of drone? Thank you!
What a bummer. Which one do you recommend for the mini 2? It’s registered and I have part 107 so it looks like I can’t fly without it.
Is Air Sentinel only available on an iPad because I can't find it on my phone on the App Store. I have a Phantom 4 Pro V2 and its compliant after I checked but I don't know how to tell if its broadcasting its remote id signal?
Phantom 4 won’t show in any iOS app because it uses WiFi tech and iOS devices can only pick up Bluetooth remote ID devices.
Good info !
@@PilotInstituteSo im good to fly then? Nothing to worry about?
If it’s updated to the latest, you should be good!
? I got a drone But iam registered with Faa but iam not over the weight limit do I need remote ID? To fly Recreational?
As long as you're sub 250g and you fly safely. You're good
It doesn't send the location of the pilot but it sends the location of takeoff which is within 10 or so feet of the pilot
Where can I get this information adot drones under 249 grams I want to screen shot it
The latest news is that the Senate passed a bill to allow us to fly without remote-ID as long as we don't fly in controlled airspace. No need for remote-id. Congress has the power to override the FAA.
Thank you for sharing FRIAMAP.com again! I hope it continues to be an easy way for folks to find FRIAs near them!
Just used the map and the park I usually go to is a FRIA, didn't even know it.
When i was super green 6 months ago, i went to a fria and it was the size of a football field with high wires on both sides. I said. F this. Have been flying whenever and wherever the faa allows me to fly ever since.
The only bad thing about FRIAS is that many require membership to a CBO, while others are located in private property (such as universities) and outsiders may not use them without a prior valid authorization. Feds make it too difficult.
ya if you wanna pay $100 / month, no thanks you can get an id for that price!
I sure hope FRIA's aren't too heavy to carry on my bike tours.
A. So now, the Mini 4 Pro, if using the “big” batteries (or doing 107) must be registered. Once “registered,” now it requires RID all the time. So, if I pop in the smaller batteries, I am now NOT compliant, since it doesn’t broadcast with smaller batteries. Correct? Insane!
Just fly your drone dude
@@chuckfinley3152 Everyone’s big and tough, until they get confronted by the police. What’s your address so I can mention it to the local authorities…dude. What other laws do you scoff at?
Lolol, don’t hurt your back bending over to lick that boot
You'd be compliant with the smaller batteries if flying recreationally. You only have to broadcast if flying under Part 107 or the drone weighs more than 249grams.
@@MrPlaneTalk Calm down, Karen. Go feed your cats while people have fun.
It should be noted that many (most?) FRIAs are private areas with rules and membership requirements. I've heard from AMA club officers who've begun seeing non-member multirotor pilots show up at their clubs' fields thinking the FAA has given them permission to fly there.
well, they have
Hi, what do you make of this situation?
With the current firmware update a DJI Mini 3 Pro's RID won't activate if you use an ultra light 249g battery....🤷🏻
You have to use the heavier intelligent plus battery to have it activate RID... 🤦🏻♂️
That causes a conundrum for someone that only has the ultra light batteries wanting to operate under Part 107…🤔
Were do we buy or aquire a remote id and is it attached to the drone?
Holy Stone has an affordable RID module, attaches with velcro and easy to program.
@chetblake2565 thanks I'll look into this
It would be nice if the FAA makes it mandatory for those people monitoring pilots on their phones to broadcast their location and ip address. This doesn't solve the problem but it would also make them worried about monitoring drones. We don't want them to know our location neither do they. It should add to our safety a little bit.
The public needs to broadcast their location when using their phones to monitor pilots
I registered my mini 2 in 2020. Dont have a part 107 and fly recreationally. Is it mandatory for me to be rid compliant?
Just a guy who knows a lot of nothing here.
As long you’re under 249, sounds like you’re good.
If you registered it, you need remote ID. But it’s also an easy fix to un-register it since it’s not required. Just go to your inventory in the drone zone and delete it from there. Remove the registration sticker and you’re good to go!
@@PilotInstitute actually just unregistered about 15 mins ago. Ty
I did too with my mini 2,now wish i hadnt, according to this guy if registerd were suppose to have one even if flying in complience with weight limit,i only registered because i added landing skid, strobe light which puts it over weight limit.just wanted to be honest, and this is what we get, more regulations and one more cost to fly, screw it im done with flying.

No thanks, I'll continue to fly dirty and build my own. My drone is a sovereign aircraft and isn't required to comply as it's on a aeronautical research mission.
How and who is tracking my RID module?
Should have just included what Drones have standard Remote Id and which ones don't? this video may not apply to most drones??
It applies to all drones, but we showed the link in the video to find out if your drone is natively compliant: uasdoc.faa.gov/listDocs
When I was really young, I got a little rc plane for my birthday because I was interested in aviation (forgot the exact model but it was a 3 channel beginner), this is what really got me into the hobby, I started to watch a lot of the flite test videos and about 4 years ago I built my own foamboard rc plane, I always wanted to fly it but never got the opportunity, school got in the way and I partially forgot about it until just a week or so ago when I dug the plane out of the garage. I'm a bit saddened to see the way the hobby has gone, now I have to comply with all of these regulations, just to see if the sucker flies at all. Thanks so much for these videos, without y'all and a friend (of whom informed me that these regulations existed in the first place) I would never have been able to figure all this stuff out on my own!
just ignore these new rules. Pilot's safety and common sense should prevail. Otherwise the hobby is doomed.
There has to be a way to convince DJI to make RID transmission selectable in the software. I just paid an extra $400 for the fly more combo. Now I have to buy either an RID module, or the bigger battery. The main reason I bought the Mini 3 over the Mini2se was because it was RID compatible. With a simple software "upgrade", none of that matters.
I need the gov to stop spending my money for me!
They can’t make it selectable, it would be against part 89.
I also bought the M3 and registered it. I have the standard battery and recently bought 2 of the larger batteries. Since the DJI upgrade no longer transmits RID with the standard battery, does that mean I can't use the standard battery? This should be a simple fix for DJI.
0:58 if you can't fall asleep at night, it's the perfect document to read😂😂😂
Works wonders! Any of the Federal Aviation Regulations works.
What is the range of the remote ID signal?
Depends, but about 1000-2000 feet from what we tested.
In a desert environment. Not in the TRI STATE area 😅😅😊
@@felixruiz2838that’s a great observation.

I read somewhere recently that if your drone weighs less than 249 gram. It does not have to be registered, but you still have to take the "Trust Test". Which is it?!!!!
What is the fine for non RID compliance?
10 K
We don't know in practice what if anything it'll be. Or to what extent local law enforcement will even care. And the FAA has better things to do and not enough agents either.

@@jasonhurdlow6607,local LE will be able to enforce compliance? And / or write tickets/fines???
This isn’t really that much of a problem because you need to be fairly close to the signal in order to receive the data. For instance the drone tag beacon only has a range of about 200ft. That means the signal is only detectable 200ft from the drone. So if you’re over 200ft in altitude no one will ever see it.
So what are people doing about a potential DJI ban?

So, if you're sub 250 & no RID, you're then restricted to a FRIA per the FAA? This is my interpretation of what isn't said aloud. Anybody else?
If you fly a sub 250g drone recreationally, you don't need RID and can fly anywhere it's legal to fly, not just FRIAs.

The 2 Pro is natively compliant so no need for a module.
i got the mini 2 se and looks like i dont need it. yea yea.
Is it legal to UNREGISTER your drone if it’s under 249g And fly recreational ??? No Remote ID
Yes. Delete it from your inventory and remove the registration sticker. Then you don’t need RID as long as you don’t add accessories to make it more than 249g, and you keep flying recreationally.

$100 / month, they have a trial though
You must regester this rock before throwing it.
Those of us that have been flying rc airplanes and heli's for decades without issue want to that FPV and drones for all this compliance we have to deal with today.
At 1:10 you said “OVER” 250 grams and then said “UNDER” 250 grams.
What if it’s exactly 250 grams? I think it is “250 grams or more” it must be registered.
Even the FAA website has conflicts in the wording.
249 grams or less does not have to be registered unless flying under part 107. 250 grams or more has to be registered for part 107 and recreational.
On another note, the UAV Coach's TRUST is saying:
"If you already have your FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, you do not need to go through this training, unless you plan to fly under the recreational rules."
I don't believe that to be accurate...🤔
Where does it say that a Part 107 Pilot needs TRUST to operate recreationally?🧐
It’s actually correct. If you plan to fly under the recreational rules, 49 USC 44809, then you need TRUST. Part 107 certificate has no value under those rules. With that said, you can fly recreationally while following part 107 rules, which would not require TRUST. It all depends on which rules you decide to follow.
@@PilotInstituteThanks for the clarification 👍🏼
Great info! My drone has been collecting dust for several years. My part 107 registration lapsed 4 months ago. My Part 107 license expired too. I have no plans to retest for another license. I believe once a drone is registered as either recreational or part 107, you cannot change it? Can I continue to register the drone under part 107 without a current license? Thank you
You should register the drone for whatever use you have for it. You can change it to recreational if you want. Also, getting current is free for part 107.
I just completed my recurrent, and it was really easy. Go through the FAA courses and then take the exam, free like mentioned above. If you miss one, you can correct the answer to achieve 100%.
Thank you!

In Europe you also have to register a Tello. So I guess I just have to put a €240 module on top to stop it destroying the entire planet.

If I can buy a plane or drone off the shelf and it can fly over 400 ft. It better have RID in it already. Lots of lawsuits gonna happen.
Since this has gone into effect, i have started carrying two .45's on my hip. It is definitely a deterrent for karens to keep their distance. Some who i notice come up to me in a huff. i just reach down and unclip the snap to the weapon. They do get the message and stop in their tracks to yell at me while my sighter calls the police. i hope the police are happy with the FAA. Since this has gone into effect, i've had karens and richards ordering me to stop since. My team knows to call the police and they all open carry. This law is going to cause someone getting hurt. Mark my words someone out there is going to attack a pilot and then it's on
This is as bad as the ability to look up someone's address by their vehicle license plate. If you didn't like the way they drove you look them up and go to their house. Nice
wha if I js fly it like that
Will not comply.
May 10 now they said
"license plate" ..no no it is not that at all. Sorry sir, but you need to stop using that as it is 100% incorrect. Does your vehicle license plate tell people far away from you where you are by transmission? No. Does it allow any random person to target you and know where you are while you're doing something? No. Does it allow people to simply be in the area and see all the vehicle license plates in the nearby parking lot? No. Does it give out information the public does not have access to? No. It is not a license plate.
That is a terrible analogy.
License plate, no. Digital license plate, yes. And yes, you are correct on the issues related to RID. We made quite a few videos about that.
@@PilotInstitute And yet continuing to use the moniker "license plate" gives a very wrong impression to those who do not understand all the nuanced details. It makes it far to easy for those outside the group to just say "oh it's just like the license plate on your car, that shouldn't be a big deal" and give it an easy pass.
0:38: "It's a digital license plate for your drone"
@@PilotInstitute Yes and you've completely missed the point. Adding "digital" means jack all to the public at large. All they hear is license plate. Period. And what do they know about them? Metal ones that go on cars and only cops have access to their related info and must be specifically read by said cops eyeballs or plate scanning cameras, there is no drag net option like with RID.
But our videos are not for the public at large. Nobody who is not into drones will watch something about Remote ID. I understand your point. And we have discussed the issues related to remote ID. But it IS a digital license plate. And that’s an easy term to picture for those who fly drones and need to picture it.
I think its easier to fly an ultralight

What’s wrong with the video quality that you want to dislike it? Is the editing not done right? Bad lighting? Let us know.
@@PilotInstitute I think some people mistake the dislike button being for disliking the information a video provides. This video is good, informative and appropriate. @Montana_horseman, agreed. Also, if you’re on desktop, there are plugins that show the dislikes. It is useful for some DIY videos!
You’re assuming this video has dislikes… 97.2% likes/dislike ratio so far, so zero effect on how the video is shown to people. And you’re also assuming videos with dislikes are not being shown on TH-cam, which is incorrect.

Yet another example of the government screwing over the small guy.. Makes me want to vomit.
RID already helped me a few days ago. Someone in the community I live in complained about my Avata to management. Management sided with me because I could prove exactly what flight path, speed, and altitude I was flying at.
