UPDATE 2/18/2022 I've been getting a lot of messages off this video recently so here is some info to clear things up. I purchased this card off of Amazon on May 20th, 2021. Since then, Amazon has removed it and all other Mazda navigation cards off of their marketplace. Not sure why. What I would recommend doing is calling your local Mazda dealer and asking for the specific part number of the card that will work with your car. Ex: BDGF-66-EZ1 is the one I got. There seems to be a handful of second-hand sites that still carry them so you can enter the part number they give you on those sites, or just have the dealer do it since prices seem to have gone up since last year as well!
So The card you bought from amazon is probably %99 not legit. These cards were around ebay when I got mine several years ago and it LOOKED like I bought it from a dealer, but today I went to update it and the serial number was fraudulent. I actually pirate shit all the time but I was kinda bummed these cards are also pirated, mainly because I hate giving money to the wrong people. Plug the sd card into the pc and run the update app and see what it says.
Apparently cards avaliable on amazon and ebay are not legit, i just asked my local dealership about the SD Card for a Mazda 3 2022, they wanted 700 USD!!!! that´s just too much for getting maps on your dashboard
This man has the best video. Thank you so much for your video. I bought a 2023 Mazda CX5 and dealer wanted $500 like you said and on Amazon the regular cards where $50, the only for 2023 was $74, so I got that. The fact that you get the speed on the screen made me decide to get it. Best video out there with all the right info
the cars already have navigation built in which is why you can see your latitude and longitude when you open up the nav without it. mazda just sells the license key which is kinda scummy.
Of course the hardware GPS unit is in there ... that's what determines the position via satellite triangulation. But there is no map data in the system ... that's what's on the SD card and that's what you pay for. Not just the license.
2021 CX 5. The hinged sd card slot cover in the console seats the sd card when it snaps closed. Label facing forward angle corner down. Took about 30-45 seconds for the system to acquire the necessary GPS data and for the Nav display to become active. Don't despair if it isn't instantaneous. Agree, pretty simple process. Sneaky they encode the card with the VIN after 60 miles so it can't be moved to another car. But hey, fair is fair. Got mine on eBay for $58 after tax.
@@gangstaBJK You don't download the file. Nav data access is always from the SD card. So yes, you need to keep it installed. And it is brand/model/year/owner specific registered to the first install only. It won't work on any other Mazda product. Not even another CX5 once set up on your car.
I have a 2016 CX5 and I got the sd card from the dealer back then for a “steal” of $200 (it’s actually not that bad) and those take a few seconds to load… it can only read so fast, it’s an SD card
Honestly a great video. Quick, easy to follow, and informative. From the comments it seems like you may have missed some stuff but don’t worry. Camerawork was good too.
he leaves out the most important part. if you use the native nav system with the card, the turn by turn will show in the heads-up display (HUD). i have a 2019 cx5 reserve. i use the native nav because of that over the apple car play or Andriod as those will not display in the HUD. that makes driving so safe and now you can use your screen exclusively for music. the HUD will show the speed limit very well done with your radar cruise control. not one video will never address the integration of the HUD with Nav... they just don['t know the car.
I bought the SD card, installed and updated in my CX-5. Still I can't see any change in the HUD display. How exactly can I turn that on? Does you CX-5 have one or two digital circle displays on the panel?
Hi, may i know any connection beetwen nav card and TPMS function too? Because my mazda 3 without have nav card , the vehicle information not showing number dor TPMS
I just purchased a card and the 2023 CX-5. It uses an SD card and is located right next to the USB ports. The card worked but the map data was from 2020 Q2. I don't believe these Amazon cards can be updated because they changed the Mazda Toolbox program to not recognize illegitimate cards. They can't change the car but they can easily change the software update app which they did. Do I care that it's not legit -- not really. Instead of trying to sell a $700 SD map card to a few owners, they should have sold $50 map cards to everybody. My old Chevy Volt came with Navigation but they charged $99.99 for map updates (on sale). I thought that was pretty crappy too but to be honest, they aren't adding a ton of roads so map updates aren't that important. The biggest changes are probably to speed limits which are included in the map data. For a $25-$50 price tag, these cards still provide a lot of value vs the $700 card. The Carplay connectivity and Waze is probably what you should be using if you want the latest map updates or an old fashioned Garmin GPS. GM plans on phasing out CarPlay on its new EV's starting with the 2024 Blazer since customers were opting out of the expensive navigation systems. Kind of shows what they think of their customers with this thinking though.
I've owned a mazda for about a year and quickly gave up on the built in system. I find it almost impossible to use, Google maps for me or go old school and keep driving till you can ask directions.
I got one of those from Amazon for my 2016 cx-5 GT to update the Nav that was already working and I couldn't get it to work. Now my Navigation is hosed. Why is that?
@adampatterson it would make the most sense, since the head unit won't have internet to report in. In saying that, updating with the mazda toolbox, it probably would take that metadata/Vin and record it. That would mean the second card wouldn't be able to be updated.
I bought one around 2017 and it was flagged as counterfeit just today when I tried to update with Mazda's tool box. Of course, it did not update. I only tried to update b/c it was awful at finding addresses and I had hoped by updating it, it might help. Now I am taking my 2017 CX-3 to have the "Android app" installed for $400 dollars. The counterfeit still provides navigation but it generally sucks at finding locations to navigated to. The moral is you get what you pay for.
Does the nav SD card directly from mazda enable the traffic sign recognition or does it simply take the speed limit data from the nav and put that on your gauge cluster?
I have heard that in the U.S., it takes the info from the nav and puts that in the gauge cluster. In fact, when I am driving in my new development in my Mazda it does not show the speed limit in my neighborhood, even though there are speed limit signs posted.
So how are the 3-year updates delivered... do they swap out the SD or are there 'over the air' updates somehow? Also, does Mazda care that you get this through a third party and not through them?
So I bought a second hand SD card aka not a dealer one. So I tried to update it but it saids unrecognized on the laptop. Does not give me an option to login or create a maps account. Any reason why?
When I put my SD Card in my Mazda CX 5 2021 I have a message telling that my Mazda does not have a navigation. Is this possible ? There is a navigation button in it. So I don’t see why I am getting this message.

It would have been nice if you'd given more than a couple of seconds about the actual install. Hard to tell where and how. Otherwise very informative video.
Why do you need this SD if you have your phone with Google or Apple maps with you and Bluetooth? Unless it has built-in GPS AND you live in remote area. The speed limit thing is not really important to me since if I want to break it I don't need my car to tell me what the limit is and if I want to respect it there is already the signs telling me. And I live in an area where there are frequent changes in speed limit either for road work or actual change in law so I wonder if the SD card is even that useful.
