I loved the episode! Also, Parun is probably the most powerful version of Niv-Mizzet just because of how many pieces it combines with for nigh infinite damage AND it's uncounterable.
The persistent urge to make a Slicer deck and only refer to it as "my commander" for the whole night at LGS, *JUST* to deliver the "Its been a slice." Salt in the wound villain pun to all of your defeated opponents as you walk out the door. 😈
Serious question for the spike feeders: i havent ever personally used a gamegenic deckbox yet, so whats their major selling point when you compare their equivalent product to, for a specific example, the ultimate guard twin flip n’ tray? The two boxes look like theyre functionally identical aside from gamegenic having the detachable flaps.
Another specific comparison id like to inquire about: gamegenic sleeves vs dragonshield, since dragonshield has been touted as “the best around” for years in terms of sleeves by *numerous* creators.
The designer of many of UG's flagship products left and started Gamegenic. Generally speaking, many of Gamegenic's products are based on lessons learned, so they'll look similar at a glance but they'll have a few quality of life improvements over the equivalent UG product. The ultimate guard flip n tray is pretty equivalent to the Stronghold (except for the detachable flaps like you mentioned), but if you compare the regular flip n tray to the Watchtower, the flaps allow you to configure it so the dice is below or above your deck depending on your preference. Gamegenic boxes also have a little more room, which helps if you double sleeve your decks -- especially if you're sleeving with thick inners. In terms of their sleeves, I'd say they're pretty similar to UG Katanas. You're right that multiple creators have loved DS sleeves in the past, but a lot of them have changed their mind recently. I'm not sure if they've fixed things, but starting in early 2023 (Jan/Feb) a lot of people were complaining about DS sleeves splitting. Ultimately, though, once you get to a certain point of durability, sleeves are mostly preference. We're also currently working on a product demo of the new Bastion product (similar to the UG Boulder) that should be out in a couple weeks. If you're curious about features we're going to be talking a lot about them in that video!

This was a great game and two of my favourite channels together! I just wish you had gone thru the motions on how Eilidh actually won the game. If this was supposed to be a learning experience I think that would have been kinda relevant instead of going "Ok, you win" like you would do with a table full of seasoned cEDH players. All that said, can't wait for the sequel!

The new playmats do like real nice and for recorded/video content, they are alot better imho, as it's less catching when you look at each players board comapred to the old ones.
She wouldn't have been able to choose to stop the combo with Tandem Lookout on Niv because the Soulbond draw a card isn't a may it's a must. The draw a card for Ophidian Eye and Curiosity are mays. I mean she may have had other instant cards she could use to try to stack where she wouldn't deck herself or she may have had enough damage with the rest of the cards in her library before decking herself. Definitely not Timetwister or am I missing something?
She just does the one damage to Niv Mizzet itself. Tandem Lookout reads whenever it damages an opponent, not creature, so Niv pinging itself stops the combo
Notably, with the Tandem lookout combo specifically, neither of the cards have a “may” ability. This would mean that as soon as Alias draws one card, the combo starts and she will draw her entire deck with no opportunity to stop. So assuming the total life totals of the other players are greater than the remaining number of cards in her library, she would actually deck herself before killing everybody. There isn’t a window of opportunity to cast an instant speed “timetwister” effect either because as soon as that spell is cast it will trigger Niv and start the chain again before the spell even resolves. Fortunately though, at the time she put the combo together, life totals were most likely low enough to be less than the cards in her library and she wouldn’t have to worry about drawing out. But it’s important to note!!
Tandem Lookout only triggers when it or the soulbonded creature deals damage to a player. You can break the loop temporarily by targeting a creature (or Niv itself), allowing for sorcery speed spells before restarting the loop.
Actually, life totals definitely weren't low enough (91 total, the only way she has that many cards in her library is if it's her first turn or everything got shuffled in), but as mentioned by Spikefeeders you can break the loop by targeting creatures with the damage.
Seeing Jim not paying the one, then wasting a mana floating going to combat was painful to watch. #dontfeedthefish SPOILER/EDIT: Eilidh did win the game with a hand full of cards. Who would have thought drawing cards was so good in MtG!
@@The_Breaded92 Not quite, since they accidentally destroyed the Dryad Arbor. Culling ritual destroyed the right number of things, just not the right things. The Sol Ring surviving wasn't that impactful because of the null rod, but Elliot having Dryad Arbor and an extra mana would have also allowed him to pay the one for one of his spells the next turn.
I call BS. Not everyone is that fast and if the whole table was always on thoracle, people would also have interaction. Sure, this was not a super competitve pod, but neither is the meta that stale. People still play korvold, random stuff like yuriko and have been trying new things like tivit and tayam. Thoracle is big, but very interactable and people get to it in different ways.
I really don't consider this CEDH. These days, if you're not trying to Thassa's by Turn 3, you're getting left behind. It's why I hate CEDH lately. Played 5 games on spellltable last week, and every game was done by turn 3, with Thassa's Oracle. 2 of the games they even used preators grasp to steal someone else's Thassa's Oracle. And they feel safe doing this because of the 15 decks i played against, only 2 weren't going for Thassa's Oracle. Saw 1 Wynota and a guy who thought Teshar was still relevant. SO boring.

Culling ritual does kill sol ring. That said, I don't think it will weigh into the ending. I don't see Skullbriar winning this.
