Note that Niv Mizzet triggers every time you draw a card, not only when you draw a card as a result of his second ability. This includes your draw step. I think you missed a couple of triggers.
That was such a cool combo from Jim
just so you guys know, you have to stack saffi and gerard triggers so gerard resolves first. This is because you’re required to exile gerard to combo with him. Then Saffi is able to bring him back from exile because of the card’s wording. It’s only relevant to me because Minsc is one of my favorite cedh decks. I am super happy to see it win in this pod though 😁.
Actually it's the opposite. Saffi trigger has to resolve first otherwise Gerrard won't be a legal target for her trigger when it resolves (since he'd be in exile). From the first ruling on Gerrard: "Gerrard’s triggered ability returns artifact and creature cards even if Gerrard leaves your graveyard before you can exile it." Exiling Gerrard is not required for the trigger to resolve.

Interestingly, although Niv can't be countered, you can still target it with a counter spell. It will just fizzle

As a Casual Calvin and a Budget Billy, this may come down to complete lack of experience in CEDH, but since Mana Crypt is free to cast, why play it on turn 1 - invoking extra possible damage - with seemingly nothing to spend 2 wingdings on? Warping Wail in hand? (Is that card competitive?) Not ramping further on Sol Ring for fear of a board wipe that can hit artifacts - or not wanting a possible early Dockside to get additional treasure tokens?
Generally speaking you don't want someone to play a Mystic Remora or a Wheel while you have them in your hand

How did Gerrard not stay exiled? Wouldn't saffi have to happen first?
When the alligator came down the stairs why did they label it as a dog?
Could have soulbonded to the ragavan when niv was exiled.

I don't play with Solitude so maybe I missed something, but I'm not sure why Lua put it in the graveyard after flashing it in. Seemed to me like she would have been able to trigger Winota on her turn had she not done so.

Really loved that Minsc deck and the Saffi Gerrard interaction. I'm glad Jim got to show it off after a lot of sad turns!
Great game, but one little thing. The triggers for Gerrard and Saffi were stacked wrong on the last combo turn. You have to return Gerrard first with Saffi's triggered ability, otherwise Gerrard's ability will exile him permanently from your graveyard. Other than that, great!

Man minsc is definitely Jim's go to deck. Looks like a good build too. Lua lol need to listen and not become the threat asap cause you could have taken that game next turn I think. M

Question to Alex: don't you run any evasion for Pako? I know the card advantage still works, but he gets chumped so much in your games. How do you make your win inevitable?
For real! Too many creatures and not enough evasion/protection
worth noting that there is a combo (seasons past + mystical tutor + 5 mana time walk) but the advantage is just overwhelming and not every deck is a creature dense as these ones
The evasion is less useful in cedh tbh. Usually, you just attack the open player or the black player trying to Naus, and chump blockers are less useful in higher tier pods. And you're basically just fishing for the seasons past combo and pressuring life totals
I think the Mr. Rogers sweater threw Lua off, and that's the only reason she called Jim a stupid old person.

Just to be clear, Gerrard's ability does say to "exile it and return..." The combo works, but you might want to mention that Saffi's trigger needs to bring him back first.

The order that Gerrads and Saffi's trigger are stacked matter. If they are stacked in a way it's demonstrated in the video, where Gerrads trigger first resolves and brings back all the creatures, Gerrad exiles itself and Saffi's ability does nothing.

No, since there is no "if" the trigger will just do as much as it can. First gatherer ruling covers this use case.

But the order of the triggers does matter, should have been ordered with Safi on top, otherwise Gerard would exile itself before returning everything else and you can't loop.

I love to watch your games! Wanted to ask about start of turn 2, though: why wouldn't elliot put the apprentice on top? Alex is about to play Pako and a creature on top is worse for him.
elliot forgot to ping with niv off natural draw and lua forgot to draw of ogma and survival
There was no way to attack with the Lookout and get the draw trigger, I assume ? That was a wild game, not sure Jim deserved the win with such a greedy keep 😉

Psyched to see the Safi / Gerrard loop show up! Bit a note for those watching from home, but the order of resolving the Safi and Gerrard triggers is not a situational thing. You must resolve the Safi trigger first or else Gerrard exiles himself as part of his own ability. There's no "if" so his ability will still resolve if he's not in the graveyard when it resolves.
Love this interaction with my 5C Niv list, though that deck has to find other ways to win with that loop since I can't find those single color cards off my commander.

So this was mentioned in a different content creator's video (I don't remember who's) but it at least used to be that if you didn't explicitly state you were using the second ability then the spell could still be countered. Not sure if that's changed. That all said, sometimes mistakes happen.
Cavern of Souls was tapped to cast Winota. Lua used Chrome Mox and Gemstone Caverns to cast Loyal Apprentice, so it could be countered.

Oh I forgot about gemstone probably because no counter. Typically I remember it regardless lol
So i am kinda new to magic and trying to understand. Shouldn’t cavern of souls have protected your loyal apprentice or did i misread it? Again kinda new and trying to understand if i read it right.

Cool game, fun group to watch. Only small note is Lua should have exiled the Foothills to the Cavern, not put it in her graveyard. This Only came up because there was mention of putting it back on top with Noxious Revival, ultimately Eliot decided not to do it, so it didn't impact game play, which is why it's just a small thing.
