  • Finally some Commander Mods! I wanted to install an oil catch can to reduce blow by in the XK, the only problem is there aren't any specifically designed catch cans for the Commander! I decided to get a UPR billet aluminum catch can designed for a 2009-2017 Dodge ram with the 5.7 Hemi and modify it to fit the XK... But first, an oil change! #Jeep #Commander #Hemi #OIL
    UPR 09-17 Dodge Ram Billet Oil Catch Can 5.7L HEMI Z Bracket 5032-034

    Good vid. I have an air raid elbow that replaces the mouse trap resonator. So it should be much easier. The main thing the catch can dose is keep your throttle body from gumming up so bad by eliminating the oil that cooks on the body and the valve. Started watching after hearing about your channel from D&E. Good XK content.

    Change your PCV with the oil and filter.
    Make sure your filter is premium that stops down to at least 5 microns. My Fram premium filter I get filters down to 3 micron.
    Standard filters only stop 30 microns and larger.

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LOL, Yes I agree. A More expensive price tag does not necessarily guarantee good quality, furthermore, a "quality" material certainly does not guarantee an effective part. The things I considered in this purchase were the Company who manufactured it (and their reputation), the reviews the product received, Which engine it was designed for, the location of mounting in relation to the engine so engine heat could prevent freezing, type of filtration, method of draining, and ease of access. I wasn't thrilled with the idea of selecting a generic one size fits all eBay special. This was an important decision as the commander is my wife's vehicle. This can checked all the boxed

    When pouring fluids like oil or coolant from a plastic jug place your palm on the side and pour it from the side it will allow the air to escape and less splashing when pouring fluids . The catch can seems like a great idea I hope it works for you . The oil filter you had on originally was fine but its not OEM and Jeeps love stock oil filters and the factory one holds more oil so I think 5.5 quarts can be used to fill the 5.7 HEMI beast . Also who put that drain plug in He-man ?😂

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Jay, This beast takes 7.5 quarts! I usually punch a hole in the bottom of my quarts with a pick. That really lets it flow nice. I don't like to puncture the gallon containers cuz they're great for clean up containers. Ill def try your tip next time pouring the oil. And yes, He man definitely tampered with my drain plug. 😁

    Good catch can install tutorial. Been thinking about getting one for my Jeep as well. But what I've heard/read (nothing really scientific...) that it mostly helps if you drive shorter trips without letting the engine warm up. If most of your driving is longer distances where your engine reaches proper temps, catch can isn't all that necessary, since it'll just burn away all that "crap" that can is catching when driving shorter distances with cold engine..?

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've heard something similar too. Which as a another reason I installed it. The Commander is mostly the drive the kids to school, get the groceries, and go to church vehicle.. all short trip city driving. And even if we're going long distance it couldn't hurt! 😁
