Bought same type off ebay. Had a hose included, which is too light+flimsy, so bought proper hose from auto shop. I used a bit of steel wool like you, *but* I added a square steel-wool scrubbing pad, inserted vertically in can, between in and outlet, as an extra filter. It didn't reduce vacuum, which is good

Greetings from Levy, Ar., all is well in our neck of the woods here. Fantastic seg on the douse-bag catcher; a little bit of an induced purging of a system is always a sign of gratitude towards the Good Lord's bounty, both from a personal purging or a mechanical purge. My dad taught me and my waterheaded brothers a lot of things but never was purging of any kind involved. Especially when dad showed everyone the fine art of Charter 10 straight out of the bottle. Thanks for the heart-to-heart Super Dan, we consider this seg as an intervention of the soul; as we reflect the light of life back to our good friend Mr. Jeep. P.S. What a wonderful family you have there Super D. Your kiddos just radiate the joy and splendor of Christ. You and momma D are doing a great job holding down the fort up there, carry on and here out.

Excellent! XJs have a CCV system but it's still good to catch any blow by before it gets out back into the intake!

Catch cans are needed if you have worn piston rings and there’s lots of blow by. If you have good compression in the cylinders and you maintain your engine with regular oil changes not so much but it can’t hurt. With direct injection you need a catch can no matter what.

  • @3gencamaroguy

I have recently installed a noname catch can on my ZJ. Finish is apparently nice but be careful. On mine, the reservoir o-ring groove just below the threads is machined too deep or maybe the o-ring is too thin, resulting in possible vacuum leakage because the metal to metal sealing may be inefficient. I solved the problem by installing a slightly fatter o-ring. Good finish doesn't mean "quality" ☺️

Thanks Dan, looking forward to a follow up video on this ,The 4.7 seems to have more blowby-condensate sludge in the winter also. Which is when you need the catch can the most. I'm definitely gonna put one on my 03 WJ Overland, although I'll need to get it closer to the engine to prevent freezing in the winter. Is there a reason other than cost, the one on the commander won't work on the WJ? BTW, really enjoyed the ending of the video with your family award. On my 5.2 ZJ I've got the PCV valve on the passenger side leading to the intake. On the driver's side there's a "crankcase breather element" which is essentially an elbow from the valve cover going into a tube heading strait to the air box. I don't know if the WJ has a similar setup, but I'm wondering if one catch can should go on the PVC valve for the intake, and one after the "breather element" to keep oil out of the IAC.
