    Firing order? Where they go and where number wise

      Driver side spark plugs are odds (1357), passenger side even (2468). The cap driver side (starting from the first wire, 1,7,3,5 and the passenger side is 8, 2,4,6 and the last one goes to the coil.

    Think I gotta do this exact job to mine. Randomly started it n it had a rough idle n then it’s sputtering when stepping on the gas.

    I noticed that the rotor button was between 1 and 8 when it dropped in.
    Was that with the numbet one cylinder at top dead center?
    Or did you just set it to whereever it landed when the truck shut off

      @TerenceDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ron, I sat the distributor in exactly how I removed it. There was no need to find TDC. Thanks for watching.

      @@TerenceDIY ok thanks.
      I was just wondering because i sat mine at top dead center on number 1 compression stroke
      Installed distributor with rotor button facing number 1 cylinder on cap.
      But im obd2 reader is saying the timing advance is negative 24 when idling.....it start right up and runs great and its Not throwing any codes.
      So im not sure if its actually negative or my obd2 reader is just reading it wrong

    • @TerenceDIY
      @TerenceDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ronspencer676 , it's probably a faulty reading especially since you said it's running great. I wouldn't put much time into it. Once again, thanks for watching.

    I redid everything on the bide of course before watching and now I am getting a p0300 code. The only difference is I did not pay attention to the distributor cap and which direction it was pointing. Any ideas ?

    • @TerenceDIY
      @TerenceDIY  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That was the most critical part. Your truck has to be running poorly now correct (misfiring)?

      @@TerenceDIY yes unfortunately. Thank you for replying.

      I only changed out the spark plugs, sp wires, cap and rotor not the entire distributor. I made sure the wires matched lengths and made sure they firing order was correct. If I didn’t place the cap back correctly would it still throw off the timing ?

    • @TerenceDIY
      @TerenceDIY  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh, okay. Tell me this, was it misfiring before you replaced those new parts??

    Yeah I did this today same exact distributor…ask me plugs and word as well….buuuuuuut even after marking the old distributor…put the new one in aaaaaaand buttoned everything back up and no star just crank…timing is off…

      Did it start before replacing the distributor?

    I didn't get my distributor to drop back in correctly, now it won't start. I believe the engine is not in time, how do I fix that?

    • @TerenceDIY
      @TerenceDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're going to have to remove the #1 spark plug and find TDC. Once you remove the plug, and the distributor, ball a piece of tissue up just big enough to fit snug in the spark plug hole. Keep bumping the engine until the tissue pop out (you'll be at TDC then). Reinstall the distributor and make sure the rotor cap is pointing at the #1 spark plug once you drop it back in. It may take a few tries, but you should get it. I hope this works.

      Yeah bro it's a pain in the ass I tried to do it in the cold I drop a bolt to hold the distributor down couldn't find it was pissed off bout that only because the vehicle out dated and no autopart store has it u would have to know what kind of threading it was to find it then after I got the bolt the distributor didn't wanna sit right like how u were having trouble even after I did the timing right I'm guessing it's the teeth at the bottom of where the distributor sits at weren't lined up so I called my mechanics over to change it they used the old distributor took off the teeth on it to use it as a flat head to be able to turn it some how and they took off the spark plug for cylinder 1 and did it that way all I gotta say it was a pain in the ass u might have to call somebody not even my mechanic next door that has knowledge of fixing body and paint knew how to do it even he had to call someone that distributor is no joke I give props to the people who could pull it off lol

    • @TerenceDIY
      @TerenceDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are absolutely correct. They are a pain once they get installed incorrectly.

  • @theeenforcer8857
    @theeenforcer8857 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Man I’m horrible at timing so I think I’ll just wrap some electrical tape around the distributor to hold it in place lol backyard mechanics at its best/worst. We had to do a lot of rigging parts when I was a Army Mechanic so the mission didn’t stop.
