When I hear "Alfadhirhaiti", the same image comes to my mind. An army of united tribes chanting this "ritual song" and an army standing opposite, full of fear of what is to come. I've been a fan of Heilung since 2015 and have their albums. I am always amazed!
Very likely exactly what Varus' troops experienced in the battle of Teutoburg forest. United Germanic tribes challenging the then-thought unbeatable Roman legions. We all know who won. To this day, it's THE founding myth of the German people as a whole. Likely exaggerated in song and story, as always, but nevertheless eternal in history.
This is the first song I heard from them, while looping through some random playlist on TH-cam. Sometimes you wish you can have a first experience again. It was a life-changing experience.
@@zarkokaradzin5380 To expand...Sleipnir was Odin's eight-legged horse, which was also Loki's son. Gungnir was his spear, which always hit its target. Draupnir was his ring, which created eight copies of itself every nine nights. The Eddas are a decent lay reference.
Seeing them live last year was one of the best experiences ever. Absolutely go to a ritual if you have a chance. Dress up as well everyone does and its amazing ❤
Ravens and wolves are best friends in the wild 5:04 it makes sense they included it. Also, wolves howl to make it sound like there’s more than what there actually is. So that is what they’re doing in the video when howling. And a wolf howl too is beautifully haunting.
So glad you reacted to this song, easily my favorite Kai-centric experience. In person, the ritual can only be described as transformative. I hope you get the chance to see them live!
We sure did (Baltimore on 10/19), and even got to interview Kai after the show! Please check it out when you have time: th-cam.com/video/IBsQushnY6k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LH8QhZ0W-SmauBjt
The thing Maria plays is the Taglharpa or however u spell it. The song is about going to battle, the previous song in the opening is about peace and getting attacked and the rest is about them kicking ass back. They call on Odin and has ravens as well as other war deities. This was my first video of urs btw.
The instrument Maria is playing is a very old instrument from India, called the Ravanahatha. A taglharpa is flatter and looks totally different--the taglharpa is often featured in Wardruna's songs, and other similar groups such as Nytt Land.
What always gets me HARD is the fact that ppl who attend them live will report you: ppl cry, dance in trance and dance theyr own way to it. Its something (you may believe in it or not) you cant explain. It hits your soul. As someone growing up in the north of germany more likely "on land" and not in a city with connection to nature it hits me DEEP and calms me when i feel my inner self if rotating out of my mid (soulwise). They are precious and i hope they stay forever :D
I have conflicting feelings... If this group came to my village and started singing this I would soil myself and run for the hills. If I was part of them I would feel invincible. If they were protecting me I would sleep safely at night.
I'm late to the party as far as when you posted this, but seeing this song live last year was absolutely insane. I was front row and the drums with the subwoofers... The entire show was an experience, it wasn't even a concert. I highly encourage everyone to go to one of their rituals if ever the opportunity arises. It was insanely beautiful. ❤
Heilung's music is pretty wild. I have been to a concert with them a couple of times when they have been to Denmark. Several of their concerts are like being part of a prehistoric ritual. It's not just music, it's a total performance 🙂
Remember, that we all are brothers All people, beasts, trees and stone and wind We all descend from the one great being That was always there Before people lived and named it Before the first seed sprouted
You have to understand the power of the female that Maria is playing. Only female reindeer have antlers in the winter so that’s what she’s wearing along with a shaman head dress that covers her eyes.
I just experienced my first Heilung ritual 2 weeks ago and it was amazing 👏 can't wait to see them again at the Red Rocks Amphitheater 😍 Also some of thier songs are in the Tv series Vikings 👌
The first few words are "Geri" and "Freki", these are the names of the wolves that Odin the All-Father hunts with. Then he says "Sliepnir" which is the name of Odin's 6 legged horse. Then he says "Gungnir" which is the name of Odin's spear. When the "crow noises" come in, he says "Haugin" and "Maunin", the 2 ravens that Odin hunts with.
This isn't a show it's a full on spiritual ritual..we just saw then 3 nights ago at red rocks amphitheater. The part you said about the subs and bass. The bass reverberate off the cliff walls and you feel it deep through your bones into your soul. Again this isn't a show. It's a ritual. If you go to it with that mentality you will be all in what they provide. Absolute must watch
Everytime i hear "Alfadhirhaiti", i think about around 20 Shamans starting to sing something like this in unison and a few Thousand Soldiers in the Background singing along in the midst of the Woods. Would/Could've been Epic, but not for the Enemies im afraid.
Do the mix between German and Germanic with North as we call Scandinavian is so mixed and connected to each other that so many similarities and traditions cultures religions are identical so you wouldn't be far off you said it one way because Germanic was a wide term used for anything across from Europe and Scandinavia
Hopefully you saw my interview with Kai - he speaks on this! Please check it out when you have time: th-cam.com/video/IBsQushnY6k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pbB2qQ6B-edyBTOO
this is about Odin the supreme Norse God the God of war and poetry who was accompained by two wolves and two crows that's why they're making those animal sounds and the guy who leads the "choir" says their names. doing this with all atonal instruments is crazy and I think most people don't understand that. sorry for your information they had kingdoms in england for centuries and left a lot there in terms of language and DNA because they integrated with the anglo-saxons and the native populations (since the anglo-saxons came from part of modern Germany and Denmark) and in France they were given Normandy the north part of the country and in 1066 William the Conqueror the duke of Normandy who discended from them conquered England.
Saw them live at Midgardsblot ..to much "ritual" for my liking...maybe if I was on drugs it would have been better ...but I`m a simple rock`n roller addicted to beer...😎

For real! Absolutely want to hear them for the first time again, it was intense.
I'm seeing them TONIGHT!
The name of the song means "Names of the All Father" and its basically (at least in my mind) a Berserker ritual cause Berserkers were devoted to Odin.
Hence the ravens.

Saw them in Manchester, England in January this year. You feel it as much as hear it. A mind blowing experience 🤯

I believe maria is playing some sort of string flute during this song. A taglharpa is like an elongated 4-12ish string harp.
The instrument Maria is playing is a very old instrument from India, called the Ravanahatha. A taglharpa is flatter and looks totally different--the taglharpa is often featured in Wardruna's songs, and other similar groups such as Nytt Land.

This song is an incantation for Odin. The chanting is all of the names Odin is known by.

He is calling out the names of Odin's wolves in the beginning, Gere and Freke, followed by Sleipnir the eight-legged horse of Odin//troutbumandsam
