With Heilung, I turn off my musician/analytical brain and just experience them. Maria, the redhead with the dreads, did an hour long interview with Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice channel and said it takes her an hour to get ready. She talks a lot about how the group gets their inspiration. They’re a fascinating group.

  • @deichkucker

To explain a little where you can classify "Heilung"( it means "Healing"):
The music of Heilung should make "sounds and sounds of bygone times" come alive again and bring you in contact with your "inner healed self".
This is not only limited to the music, but also to the poems contained.
The languages used are diverse: from German and English to Gothic and Latin to proto-Norse.
As a further stylistic device, the band members wear elaborately designed traditional costumes on stage.
They are partly based on the "spiritual traditions of the Eurasian circumpolar peoples" or reproduce historically correct images of Viking Age clothing.
Heilung describe their music as "amplified history". You can take that literally. On the stage of the German-Danish collective you will find
human bones converted into instruments, ancient drums, bronze rings and sometimes entire armies armed with shields and swords based
on the material of the Iron and Viking Age.
Because some Misguided see music about ancient times and the use of Nordic symbolism as an invitation to missionary, nationalistic
and right-wing extremist ideas, Heilung emphasizes that their art is independent of modern political and religious systems. Any attempt to
make a connection is "pointless" as Heilung "tries to connect the listener to the time before Christianity and its political offspring
raped and burned their way into the Northern European mentality."

  • @n5iln

One doesn't go to a Heilung concert. One attends a Heilung ritual.

Heilung has touched my soul more than any other music… got to see their ceremony live & it was life changing!!! All their instruments are traditional, hand made & painted with their own blood, one of the instruments is strung with the hair of an Indian Chiefs daughter… they use real animal & human bones, they get their lyrics from old runes & coins. Heilung means healing… they are going back to our roots with spiritualism & spreading the word that we are all brothers.

  • @shotgunbettygaming
    @shotgunbettygaming ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Fun Fact:
This was Heilung's first EVER live show together as a band.🤯
When they came together, they came together STRONG👍
I had to come edit because Imma nerd:
05:50 one of the things I personally find very beautiful about the sounds they are making by clanging metal bits together, charms and cymbals is that it sounds VERY much like a blacksmiths forge when the men are at work. You hear rhythms and music tinging from the items they forge and in the Norse culture a blacksmith was held in HIGH regard. He was considered touched by the Gods for his ability to forge ore of the earth in a way that aided them in their conquests. A skill not many had.
As the song goes on and the battle commences the sound of the metal being forged into swords and axes is nearly deafening with its crescendo. I think this small but poetic touch is lost on a lot of listeners and they may not understand the power behind the sounds.

Heilung tours regularly. They have been in the USA and the UK. Heilung live performance is more than just a concert. It is a TRUE FULL EXPERIENCE because you feel like you are transported back in time and the beat of the drums and the energy all through your body! From what I understand, this song is about the Pagans of what is now the area of Germany, and their first contact with Christians. They attempted to interact peacefully, but the Christians "only understand the language of the sword". Eventually, the Pagans were largely slaughtered, and scattered across the globe, but not wiped out.
This is similar to Ireland and the story of St. Patrick, who "drove the Snakes from Ireland" (a euphemism for killing Pagans).

Heilung doesn't really do Viking Age stuff. They aim to recreate pre-Viking Age Germanic tribal music and ritual. Before there were Anglos, Saxons, and Danes, we were all inhabiting the same region pre-migrations. In fact, at one point, we were all fighting together against the Roman intrusion of the Germanic region.

The bones she is using are actual human bones. There are certain countries they cannot bring them into. And yes, they are truly amazing live!

They sing mostly in Proto Germanic which was spoken during the roman invasions and before. So not really viking age.

Jeremy. Home Free's put out a fun new song that will blow your headphones off with bass and it's not just Tim, Chance jumps in on the bass too. It's called "Skull And Bones." I think they're trying to pitch it to Ubisoft for the game.

Heilung refer to their music as "Amplified History"....Maria Franz performs like a pagan shaman and is magnificent, as are all the members........the majority of their music is sung in a proto Germanic-Scandinavian dialect

I've watched the full concert several times, but the ads do break the energy too much. Opening Ceremony starts the individual videos of the concert. There are plenty of shots for each person playing spread throughout the concert. So if you want a better look at something it'll eventually be shown.
