I just turned 38, 2 more years until the big 4-0. ugh. Where's my precious time machine so i can blast back to 1990?
As far as the Sega Dreamcast goes, Power Stone, Sonic Adventure & House of the dead 2 were straight up the holy trinity. What an epic launch! Can't forget Soul Calibur either or even more obscure gems like Spawn in the Demon's Hand. It's sad too, because we'll never get that big momentous leap in graphics ever again. VR is really the only thing that's actually blown me away. As of now, PS5 games look PS4 Pro 'Pro'.
Tyler should give Resident Evil Village VR & Horizon Call of the Mountain a shot for the PSVR2 when it launches Q1 next year.. It's going to be absolutely next level. VR2 is the sole reason why i even bought a PS5 in the first place.

Shenmue had such a production value and cinematic appeal to it back when it first released that it was almost impossible for anybody playing it to dislike it-
I know I played it at 14 years old and it wasn’t typically the type of game I would play but from the very beginning until the very end of the game about three or four days later, I was immersed the entire way through..
Truly one of the greatest games in gaming history-

You should feel really lucky! My father was a good provider for our family but never once went out and bought me anything on his own. I once asked him if he could rent me “Streets of Rage 2” in the early 90’s. He came home with the first SoR. I was happy to play that. About 15 years later he bought me a set of mechanical tools (by this time I was early 20’s late teens) So I could fix his truck. I could honestly not imagine having a father go out and buy me things that I would actually love. You had a wonderful childhood. So did I but in a different way😊

I didn’t have a childhood near as good as yours, but a lot of these memories and feelings I share. I grew up with a N64 and then a Dreamcast and watching these videos really unlocks feelings I haven’t felt since a kid. Thank you so much for this. I’m so glad your dad took the time to document so many important and pivotal memories that all our parents in the 90s couldn’t have cared less about. Not to mention that just recording like your dad did was light years more difficult than it is currently.
Also wanted to add that Crazy Taxi also got me into the offspring as a kid. God those were the days. Your dad constantly commenting on Shenmue “wow this is a game!” breaks my heart that he isn’t around to see where video games have come. If only you could sit down with him and play some Red Dead 2.

I just finished Shenmue 1 and now am starting the second game, and I'm in love. It's so cool to see how people reacted to Shenmue and the Dreamcast in general back then, because even now it's one of the best systems of all time. Shenmue is truly a work of art, and the fact your dad went out of his way to import a copy of Shenmue 2 for the Dreamcast is amazing. You got to play it a year before most people in the US. Shenmue literally changed my life in so many ways. I remember buying a Dreamcast from a friend at his yard sale for dirt cheap in 2001 or 2002 because he had purchased a PS2. It came with Shenmue and NFL 2K. I'll never forget that amazing experience. I think a year later, Electronics Boutique or Babbages had the import of Shenmue 2 and a import disc converter for sale. I remember I begged my mom to buy it for me, and I still have it. That converter disc really opened me up to future imports too. Watching your videos really makes me miss those days. Great memory! Thanks for sharing! Shenmue was the primary reason I got the DC. I got it late and was heartbroken to hear Sega stopped it. I didn't get to play shenmue 2 until xbox released it. My friend and I went on release night to buy it together, even though we were high school kids and it was a school night.

Your relationship with your dad is awesome. You can see how much he loves you and, of course, video games. It makes me strive to have that kind of relationship with my young son as well. Im so happy you do these videos. Such wonderful memories. While I was so much older than you when Dreamcast came out, I had very similar feelings and memories when I got my system and games. Takes me back. Great job 👏🏻

crazy thing is living real time inside these memories really does just feel like yesterday. i remember getting dressed for school, brushing my teeth. asking my mom whats for dinner. playing catch with my dad. playing flag football with my friends. playing halo 1. i remember being in those moments like im inside this moment now. crazy it was all 20 plus years ago and everything that was relevant back then is just faint, meeaningless thoughts in my head. everything that mattered, doesnt anymore.

It's crazy to see a father son relationship very close to how I was with my father. My father and I used to bound through guitar, Sci-Fi and Video games just like this. I would come home from school and we would play whatever the new game was and watch the Sci-Fi channel at the same time. Unfortunately I lost him to cancer back in 2006 but those were some the greatest moments I will forever cherish. Thank you for uploading these, its a nice nostalgic beacon to help jump start some forgotten memories.

Brother, your dad is incredible. I hope you know how lucky you are to have a dad like that. My dad wasn’t bad but he wasn’t into video games so I never had a Christmas like that. Your dad is the way I’ve been trying to be with my son. My son is now 11 and I’ve gone through my own missions like your dad went through for Shenmue to try and get some games he wants. Your dad has me beat though because I don’t have recording like this. I have lots of pictures and a few reaction clips of my son opening gifts but not movies the way your dad did em. However, I still have time because my son is only 11 so thanks to your dad and your awesome channel I’m going to do some recordings too lol. Also I think you’re just a year or two younger than me so that means we’re old lol. I was 15 when the new millennium arrived and turned 16 on April of 2000. Love your videos, brother. It lets me remember those times vividly thanks to your dad’s recordings. You were lucky to grow up with a great dad like that

What an incredible time it was. i beat this game so many times, and i got to beat Shenmue 2 with my mom actually watching me, and being invested in the story as i was. great memories

I remember when shenmue and Shenmu 2 first gane out , oh my days i remember me and a close mate being amazed that you could do jobs and lived a life in a game world. Such an iconic game especially the first one. Love your channel as i grew up with games from a zx 48k spectrum, Amiga and Atari st then i moved onto consoles and ive never looked back and thats why i love this channel its a reminiscence of my childhood and teenage to years and the fact your dad had the foresight to record it all not knowing that TH-cam was in the future is legendary.

I've watched a few of your videos, and it's really refreshing to see someone that talks about how these games made you feel rather than the game itself. When I look back on my gaming past, I always remember the feeling of awe I got seeing something new, different and captivating, and not so much how good a game was. A few years ago I replayed Shenmue, and the nostalgia was kicking hard, not because of the game, but because I was remembering that weekend I was glued to the TV, totally immersed in that universe, where it almost seemed there would be no end to. I wanted to see more, more streets, more people, more activities. I was so annoyed when I completed the game and there was nothing more to play. That game, and console, also meant a lot to me, because it was me moving on with my life. My previous console, a PS1 was bought by my older brother a couple of years before he passed away, and for me, the PS1 held many great memories clouded by a dark event, and the Dreamcast was my way forward. I would eventually rekindle my PS1 love affair by focusing on the good memories but the Dreamcast and Shenmue will always be a big part of my teenager years.

I remember tracking this game all the way to I believe late 1998. When it finally released, my dad let me put this game on layaway at a local video game store. When it was paid off, away it went to be wrapped up for Christmas day...the anticipation was relentless.

I dont know why… but new games from the late 90’s and early 00’s were more exciting to get. Compared to getting new games today.
I think thats because when we’re kids, its a once in a while surprise for a game we really wanted.
We also had to wait to get home to even see what the game was about. We just would pop the game in, and drop down all cozy in the couch and play… with nothing else on our minds.

I’ve been binge watching a lot of your videos. I feel like I’m reliving my childhood through them. I also have a close relationship with my dad and we would play video games together, especially Shenmue. Like you, I am also an only child. I either played games by myself, with my dad, or with my friends. Your videos hit home for me.
Your channel is a time capsule. Not only does it capture the nostalgia of playing these games, but it preserves the memories of those who grew up in the 90s and early 2000s.
I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your memories with us and looking forward to even more.

Man, you were a lucky kid. Wish my parents were into games and bought me a truckload like yours did. That said, I was never denied games and had a great childhood myself. My grandparents were awesome and took me to the game store every month for a brand new game. I’m younger than you, but I had most of the popular consoles released in the 90’s. My aunt, for example, bought me a SNES when it came out and bought a PS1 right when it became popular. She’s awesome. My Dad always frowned when she did this, but he has never complained about my love of games. My Mom was never interested, then suddenly changed her tune when the PS3 released and I got the first uncharted. She loves Nathan Drake and the more cinematic titles of that kind. Unlike you, I was never a Sega fan beyond the Genesis. Stopped with Nintendo too after Wii. But I’ve owned every single Playstation console and handheld ever made. And just waiting to buy the Xbox Series X once something comes out for it.
Finally, I love Sega’s development team RGG and am a massive, massive fan of the Yakuza/Judgement series.
