Tyler, thank you for this video. It has brought back such wonderful memories of all the fun we had playing the games together. I still love to play all the old games and have my own special room set up to play them in. The old games are the best and I still enjoy them. In fact I was just thinking of playing "The 7th Saga" for the 7th time. LOL Love you, Aunt Michele.

My dad was mildly interested in video games. We had an Atari 2600 when I was born, and got an Amiga computer when I was very very young. I bought the NES.. parents made me save up for it. I got systems as Christmas presents sometimes, but I think basically once the NES came home, gaming moved from my dad to me. He wasn't very into it aside from helping me out here and there on Amiga adventure games (like Sierra adventures... King's Quest and stuff like that).
My sister didn't really care about games, though she did have a Game Gear at one point, and she got a Wii, which I skipped.
No brothers. I'm sure my house would have been way more game crazy if I had a brother.
Cousins were into games, but we lived all over the country, not nearby.
The Game Boy did get everyone's attention though. It stayed on our coffee table, and we eventually got another one for link games and just because we always had four people wanting to play... we'd sit on the couch, watch tv, and usually one or two Game Boys were in action at any given time.
My parents would play my sister's Wii too... but only on holidays normally.
"real" gaming though... that was all me.

I use my computer and I tend to play games research etc. When I'm outside. I rarely touch my phone. I dont even like to take picture or videos. Im all about living in the moment. I dont judge those that do but I dont like stopping every 5 feat to take a pic. Or watching videos. Only time I use my phone outside is when I'm in a call. Or im playing music while driving or finally if im taking a long road trip I put on headphone.

From all the marketing I'd seen, I was expecting something that rivalled PS1/N64 graphics in a handheld, but ended up with bare-bones SNES graphics with a screen that you couldn't see unless you shined a torch on it or played in the pitch black. This will forever be my favorite system. It had just enough power to let devs get really ambitious with the games and cover just about every genre. And the sheer variety and quality in the library meant that every game purchase for me was a big occasion. It kept me up till sunrise for many nights during summer break. I still take my GBA SP with me on vacations, when the Switch proves a little too bulky.

I'm the cool cat! So in October, 2018, my uncle had a friend that had retro consoles, and one of them was the gameboy advance! So my uncle asked to borrow it and he agreed, and along with a Jackie chan beat em' up and Super Mario advance 2, so the surprise was happening, and my mom called me and I sat on the couch, with everyone recording me and he put the stuff in a plastic bag, and he gave the bag to me and realized he got me a gameboy advance! I was so happy and loved playing Super Mario World on it! Loved taking it to school trips!

This brought back some wonderful memories. My aunt and uncle were the ones that me into gaming. My aunt mostly played on the Genesis. It’s a reason why I love Castlevania because of Bloodlines.
I loved the GBA. I’m playing as we speak. I dunno if it’s the Reddit posts I’ve seen for GBA mods, but I got a whole new love for it.

0:55 I personally don't consider the GBC a revision, it had more exclusive games than a lot of consoles on their own. At worst it was a Game Boy 1.5

Dang that dark screen!! Such a shame you couldn't fully appreciate the experience of GBA's games because of that. I wonder how did you felt at the arrival of the Game Boy Advance SP.. Regardless, seeing this family of gamers is beautiful, having a common melody where each has their own instrument to play. Great video as always. It's amazing to see how far it's all come. Beautiful!

While the AGB-001 units had a terrible screen if you still have them it's really easy to mod them and install backlit IPS panels now and with the mod it's the best gameboy console ergonomically. The SP was good in my adolescent years but my nearly middle aged adult hands get cramped on the SP sadly. The micro is super portable but the lack of Gameboy and Gameboy color compatibility makes it a super niche product.

    I loved the Gameboy Advance.
I was 8 when it came out and I wasn't allowed to have a home console. It was a huge step up from my Gameboy Color in terms of game length and complexity. I didn't even mind the non-backlit screen, I used to hide under my sheets with a lantern to see the screen

Can your family adopt me please? Omg, greatest family of all time I was born in 82 and I would love to grow up with people like you I only know one family that was similar but definitely not as cool I mean final fight one Japanese version? Floating runner, lynx? My friend Eric always had the new stuff when we were kids like 3do, jaguar and he had a neo Geo small handheld system, all the new stuff that came out because his dad worked for a company that would get new products. And sometimes we found out they would be testing new products a year later so he would get the video game systems a year before they came out sometimes. I also remember them getting board game fireball Island which was my favorite game growing up, and the X-Men card game was fun

I grew up with the OG gameboy. To be perfectly honest, even at the time I was kinda underwhelmed. Sure I played it a bunch but it always felt like just a way to pass time. Because of that feeling, I didn’t buy another handheld system until the Nintendo Switch. Ironically, during the pandemic, I kinda lost my mind a little and decided to stock up on DS and 3DS consoles/games. It was kinda cool because I got to discover all this content that I missed over 20 years. But yeah, when I got into college, I literally donated all my gameboy games to Goodwill. That’s how little I cared about that stuff (looking back, I should have held onto it like I did with all my other gaming stuff as those games took up almost no space but meh).

I remember when these guys were talking about circle of the moon in middle school behind the school skipping class. One had the guide and was telling the other who was playing it what to do. I was like what is that , they like whispered “circle of the moon”…I was like dude whatever that circle of the moon is, I gotta have it. And guides back then dude remember guides? I would take out the resident evil 2 guide or pokemon guide and just stare at it for hours on end. You should do a whole episode on game magazines dude, remember tips and tricks??? Kids would stare at tips and tricks for HOURS, just staring at it. If you had a guide, of any game, that you brought to school, all the bros wanted to sit by you.

"So many game in these machines and not enough days in our lives to play all of them."
Such a hard truth in these words. Its been some time now that I've given less importance in the concept of a "backlog" because of this fact. Hearing this now made me reflect even more.

I was actually pissed that Nintendo didn't put the backlight after the experience of the Gameboy. I waited and sense that they will include the backlight in the future. Then I finally got the Gameboy advance SP. Clamshell design to fit in the pocket, included the backlight, and finally it's rechargable (no more AA batteries).
