Curiously, I bought my copy of the UK edition of the Biggles from an Australian seller. It cost under £40, including shipping. I don't have the Lothian (Australian) edition ...
That's cool, missed out by one call to dealer Brian Kesterton, who had one for £50 back in the early 90's. Got mine in the end off eBay for a touch over a hundred. The last two sold on that site for £500 on buy it nows.

Such a beautiful collection of rare paperbacks. The copy of Ariel by Maurois is mind blowing. Once again Jules has shown part of his amazing collection. I love it. You and Gary always have the best to show us. Thanks for taking me out of the 21st century for a few minutes. Priceless. 👍😀
@@JulesBurt Yeah, it's been a while since I've checked in, one reason I was trying to keep a eye on my data use on my phone but I've got a good chance of actually getting internet in my home soon. Kinda excited about that so then I can watch all the back catalog of your stuff. Just been trying for probably 15 years. 😂 Take care my friend. 👍😀
The Bodley Head was the original publishing house, where Penguin creator Allen Lane worked as a partner. I believe it's the first 80 books that have this on them, until they became, just Penguin Books🙂 The books were originally distributed through their network and warehouse.
Did all the early Penguins have jackets, at what point did they stop adding the jacket. I see the 50s/early 60s Penguins fairly often and they never have jackets.
@@JulesBurt yes thinking if it, I've seen the doubles with jackets before. Another series that I've often wondered about is the Pelican series, you get some weird ones like month music and science, I'd be interested in seeing what are the rares for Pelican.

I caught a glimpse of a photo of the writer of Biggles as you flicked though the book-how many authors these days are seen with a pipe in their mouth? Ha!

I store these super carefully! These early books all had ads, some are really great!

Luckily came across a copy of #6 last year, just need #5 and #6a as 1st impressions
5 should be fairly easy but 6A seems super hard to track down nowadays....

The dust jackets stopped just as the second world war started. So about 1939. A few odd double volumes had them in the 50's.

Not a lot of rare Pelicans but some wartime issues fetch a bit.
