His voice is so iconic. He will be listened to 100 years from now and still amaze people.

I love how Maynard stands near the back in the shadows, and has Billy Howerdel up front in the spotlight, as he feels its Billy's band.

Billy does so much. All the musical elements are his and his voice for the harmonies is as unique with Maynard’s as Maynard’s is alone.

It is Billy’s idea. MJK volunteered his voice. Now their band.

This is one of the absolute best live performances ever recorded.
    How about that drummer?
I've read that this song is also about Maynard's mother. When he had to make the decision to cut her life support at the end of her life.

    • @Spaztiq

Josh Freese being said drummer. Another master of his art form. Seeing him drum for Nine Inch Nails is something else, you don't need a drum machine if you have Josh Freese. :D

It definitely seems to be about his mom in some form.

This song was written, recorded and released years before his mother's death.

Yeah, Josh had left by then replaced by Jeff (also in Puscifer with Maynard)

I’ve grown up listening to all three of Maynard bands, experience each of them in there own light and I’ve always been amazed by the art that these bands can put out. So seeing someone else experiencing the same has been a joy.

That sound is so overwhelming. It surrounds you. Maynard can do no wrong.

This song used to relax me so much that I would fall asleep while listening to the album lol. One of APCs best in my opinion. Also can't wait until you experience some of the upcoming Tool songs. So many masterpieces!

Great reaction, sir! I am obsessed with this Red Rocks live album on Spotify right now. Maynard & Billy’s harmonies sound so haunting; I find myself humming parts of songs hours after I heard them.

The live version of When the Levee Breaks from this album is one of my favorite vocals from both Maynard and Billy.

One of the greatest live concert videos of all time... the entire concert is epic. “The Package” will knock your freakin socks off.

The “something” is Billy Howerdel. The collaboration of these two men makes this band a writing powerhouse.

The guitar right after "I can almost hear you scream" is amazing. This whole song is a beautiful thing. It and "3 Libras" are my favorites off their first album.

Great song and performance. I would say Billy Howerdel is pretty important to the sound of A Perfect Circle too, though.

I go back and forth with Tool and APC. It just depends on my mood and what’s going on in my life. APC touches a part of my soul I seem to forget about sometimes, and Tool touches my subconscious in a way that reminds me of who I am and why I am. And both are necessary. And sometimes I need a break from both and just listen to ear candy. But I always come back. It’s the best therapy ever.

    • @izorion6443

And that's why many people say "Tool for the mind. APC for the heart" :)

  • @TFrancis002

I can’t believe I missed this reaction. One of my favorite APC tracks and opening lines of a song:
“Metaphor for a missing moment, pull me into your perfect circle.”

I couldn't agree with you more. Maynard IS pure genius!

  • @killakaminski

I absolutely love this song. So deep and sad. It’s about Maynard having to make the decision to pull the plug on his mother after she suffered for 27 years. “Gotta cut away, clear away, slip away and sever this umbilical residue that’s keeping me from killing you”

This is hands down forever my favorite A Perfect Circle song. The harmonies and overall feeling you get from it. It digs down deep. From my fave APC album, Mer de Noms. Great reaction as always.

  • @pitviper8795

Billy Howerdel was Adam the guitar player from Tools guitar tech in the early days if I remember correctly. That's how him and Maynard started playing together and A Perfect Circle was born.
I want to say there was a Tool show where Billy sat in for Adam way back when. Not sure about that though.

  • @lewismaddox4132

I think APC is more melodic and emotional than Maynard's other incarnations, at least in their present state.
What's striking here is that soul wilting sound of lament not just from Maynard's vocals but with the guitar
work. Billy's body language shows a heart anguishing to find answers, yet that search is so poignant and
    human, relatable.
It all makes sense when the subject is matricide. Not an endeavor undertaken whimsically. It's tough to say
bon voyage to a piece of your heart.

  • @MegaJufy

A Perfect Circle is awesome. You should see their alumni sometime. Take your pick of popular 90s and 2000s rock bands, and at least one member has probably been in APC. TOOLs singer and guitar tech, NINs drummer, Smashing Pumpkins guitar, Paz on bass (I only know her from APC, but she's been in some stuff too), Marilyn Mansons bass player.. probably more, but I didn't look it up recently.
For 90s rock bands, this was our supergroup.

So glad to see you react to this one. It is one my favorite songs and performances of all time,up there with the Salival version of Pushit from Tool. Great react, always.

It's been said that Tool comes from the head, Perfect Circle from the heart and Pucifer from a spot below the waist line, nudge, nudge. Orestes was a mythological being who killed his mother and her lover, to avenge his father's murder by the two of them.✌

Someone who gets it Maynard is the common denominator.
Imagine and Rocket Man , Maynard did covers of these songs, I highly recommend you check them out.
He can turn the happiest of songs into deep emotional thought provoking music. Those covers are a great example of it. To me it’s why he’s the best at his craft

It is so beautiful, so poignant, just gut-wrenching! The honesty is stunning.
Just rip your skin off and tell us what it was that hurt you so bad that skinning
    yourself alive was a relief.
I don't know how to act in the lens of this kind of truth. It's unblinking and makes
me feel like a cheap knock off!

Maynard's level of eloquence and emotion is unmatched in rock music IMHO. There may be more technically skilled singers, but those 2 arenas I mentioned belong to him.

    • @ashleelegeret5916
      @ashleelegeret5916 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree! So many singers I love such as Mike Patton for his wide range and technique and Chris Cornell for his raw emotion. Yet no one has ever been able to touch my soul and make me feel the way Maynard's voice does.

Oh, sir, you have to listen to Puscifer's "Potions" - it is literally the most beautiful song I have ever heard, the melody, but especially the vocal performance by Maynard. It is sublime. I would not steer one of my favorite EVER reactors wrong, I promise. It is lovely. (PS: there's even a banjo in it!)
