Hey Everyone! I have started a new channel called "Roar!" where I take on challenges and push myself out of my comfort zone. You can check it out here: th-cam.com/users/roarrawr
This song was originally supposed to be sung by a woman . Billy Howerdel originally wanted a female singer for APC, but he could not say no to someone as amazing as Maynard . I wish one day to hear a woman do this song with a good recording ( maybe you could * wink * ? ) . There are so many Vocal teachers on youtube, but you're easily my favorite , because you explain every detail so great . I am learning so much from your channel , thank you . I've been a drummer most of my life, , and i've done really terrible backup vocals, but that's it .
i know im asking randomly but does anyone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Greyson Eduardo I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
I subscribed for this. I've always loved Tool but I also love to see people discovering how awesome they are. She also made me a much bigger Iron Maiden fan with her reaction to a song of theirs. My noms for Tool songs (not necessarily my all time favorites, but ones where he uses interesting vocal techniques): The Grudge, H, Parabol/Parabola. Also, Passenger (Deftones feat. Maynard) would be cool. Bonus: Maynard's Dick, because hilarious.
Maynard’s 3 projects/bands as dreams. Tool - disturbing intense and unnerving dreams. APC - ethereal and profound dreams Puscifer - those kind of dreams where you wake up saying “where the f did that come from?”
I remember one time when I decided to listen one song from each band to compare, so I listened to 3 libras, the pot and country boner, which, btw, I had never heard it before xD and I wasn't clever enough to make an idea of what the song was about from the name of the song XDD... You can't even imagine how much I laugh that day... And the 3 songs had nothing in common, Maynard is a very versatile guy
Tool - prog math metal/rock APC - Romantic/emotional goth rock I wouldn't say they were all profound dreams "she acts just like a nurse with all the other guys" or "One taste of you my Magdalena" ... Sorry but they are basically NIN and Tool put together (literally... Billy and Maynard) So it gothic, nu metalish and kinda like billy wanting to do NIN but with guitars and pedals instead of Garageband.
@@fcon2123 I think both serve slightly different roles, Billy being backing Vocals and Lead guitar whereas Carina I'd say atleast live she is more Co-lead, but honestly just semantics both are great.

Could not have said it better than that.. Tool and A Perfect Circle.. can listen to them all day/nite long. When I sing I try to sing clear and effortlessly like Maynard.. drums keep that guitar pace on track. definitely.

Regarding you comment about this being amazing live, when you're in that atmosphere: I've been to hundreds of concerts over the decades, 400 - 500 _at least_ . I still consider the gig of A Perfect Circle in ~2003 to be the best concert I've ever been to. The atmosphere they create is completely unique; it almost feels sacred, meditative and spiritual. After I got out of the venue, when I tried to recall what just happened, all I could remember was the light, and the music and warmth. It was a one of a kind experience.
100% with you. They're so enigmatic and i feel a lasting sense of euphoria for days after their shows. I hope you get to see them on their Eat the Elephant tour. They've started playing Judith again and that was unbelievable. Awesome isn't even the right word...
Agreed!! Saw them here in Chicago and I remember crying during "The Nurse Who Loved Me." And so was every single person around me. There was even an article about that performance in the Chicago Sun-Times that my dad cut it out for me and I still have. The headline read- "Atmosphere key to drawing A Perfect Circle." Yes, I actually remember that lol but you're so right. Have seen them and Tool several times and while it's always spectacular, that was by far the best 😍
This was at Red Rocks in Colorado and I was there- I didn't find out until much later that our concert had been recorded. Billy Howerdel & Maynards vocals have always mixed very well IMO. They complement each other expertly. Your comments on the drumming are on point, the band's original drummer (well, one of them) was Josh Freese who cut his teeth playing in punk bands before becoming a session pro.
Yeah, when they had the girl bassist originally, she added to the vocal trio very well. Probably was the best concert for sound quality i've ever been to.
I've been to a perfect circle concert and you're right about the eye closing thing. You just kind of stand there in a trance and rock back and forth to the rhythm
That's why they dont allow cell phones. They want everyone to just entrance themselves in the music. Most of their shows are.in very near darkness as well to add to this. I've seen both tool and apc live, and it is more than just a concert.... it's an experience to become a part of.

I saw some songs during this performance on here TH-cam before I became a huge fan. I literally got chills from this. I still think you should Judith the vocals are intense, when most singers screams seem like they are at you Maynard’s flow through you. You feel what he feels
Feathers, off of A Perfect Circle’s newest album that came out last year has some amazing vocals by Maynard. Also you may want to check out Puscifer, Maynard’s third band. It’s much different from Tool and APC as it covers multiple Genres of music, and has its own emotional feel to it. I would suggest starting with Autumn. Amazing song and his vocals are on point.
I saw this posted before I went to work today, and I've been looking forward to getting home, all day, just to watch this. I sincerely wish you would have listened to The Hollow from this same concert. It's by far my favorite.... so... so beautiful. Either way, I'm glad you appreciate this. I loved watching this! Maynard is one of my favorite artists of all time. I love all three of his projects, but APC is my favorite. So many things you said are exactly why too. The way it feels kind of calm, but is so incredibly powerful, the smoothness to his range, the fact that it makes you just want to close your eyes and lose yourself in the music. It's all so beautiful to me. It was so cool hearing you say those exact things. I hope you've had a chance to listen to more APC, because it is all worth it
Beth, I'm interested to hear your critique of Maynard's voice for Tool's Lateralus, and A Perfect Circle's By and Down the River. Both are amazing songs, and I think they would be good subjects. Thanks

I was at this show and it's one of my favorite concerts, right up there with SRV, from 35+ years of concert going. There was a light rain falling the whole night, and the rocks of the ampitheatre glowed in the light show (as did the top of Billy's head). It was just amazing. Atmospheric. They were ON. Counting Bodies Like Sheep and When the Levee Breaks were probably my faves of the night.
Soundgarden's "Slaves & Bulldozers" please! There's a great live version from PinkPop 1992. I also fully support any Alice In Chains suggestions. Thank you! Your videos are great!
Would love to see your reaction to Bruce Dickinson 'tears of the Dragon'. It's about him leaving Iron maiden back in the day. Not a vocalist but I love your videos for the insight you give. Keep up the amazing job
If you look at all three bands symbols, the Puscifer symbol looks like a uterus (basic emotions, sexuality, humor), APC resembled the heart (love, passion, pain), and Tool is the flaming third eye (enlightenment, spirituality and psychology). There are images that you can Google to see how cool the three are when seen together.
Just discovered this channel and love your break down of vocalist techniques. Would love to hear your take on Mike Patton of Mr Bungle and Faith No More fame. He has one of the best voices in the business if you ask me and has one hell of a range. Would recommend songs like Everything’s Ruined, retrovertigo or midlife crisis, all great examples, but plenty more to find in his back catalogue.

I could listen to Billy Howerdel and Maynard's harmonies non-stop and never get tired of that. It's just got a genuine texture and mass to it that you could just wrap your brain up with.
I still think you should Judith the vocals are intense, when most singers screams seem like they are at you Maynard’s flow through you. You feel what he feels
Goosebumps with this song. I'm glad I found this, grateful you reviewed this song. I'm a fan of yours now too
The other guy is Billy Howerdel...think I spelled his last name correctly ._.
I love your analysis and then how you just get blown away by all his changes 👌🤘
"Give me one more medicated peaceful moment."
Love this performance! Very nice reaction!
Maynard is my favorite vocalist, for obvious reasons
Beth I can see you are Inloved with MJK since first Tool video
Here's some more examples of best of MJK
A perfect circle - 3 libras in tonight's show
Tool 10000 days hidden track
Tool bottom
Tool the pot
Puscifer - The Remedy
A perfect circle the outsider live
Thanks
My favorite performance of my favorite A Perfect Circle song.
Rammstein mein hertz brent, audioslave cochise or maybe some Chris corrnell thanks, awesome videos from a fellow scot!
Rammstein yes but you can skip the other trash.
@@jerh6210 Chris Cornell trash? Educate yourself fool, Chris is universally regarded by people who know what they're talking about as one of rocks greatest singers.
@@oisinmcphillips2090 there are times that people disagree with what the universe tells them is good or bad.
Music is music, everyone has there own opinion, I like so much different music and am normally a metal head. Here's not the place to hate on others taste. It's only suggestions, give this lass a few ideas for her channel.
Oh yeah, anything Chris Cornell. So saddened to know he's gone. And yeah, I agree with you. Opinions are like assholes... You probably know the rest.
Great reaction! Please do Chris cornell, either say hello to heaven or when I'm down!
agreed
Maynard is the greatest singer/vocalist/songwriter that's ever existed throughout history and will always be the greatest. Can't be topped. Ever.
Soundgarden's "Slaves & Bulldozers" please! There's a great live version from PinkPop 1992. I also fully support any Alice In Chains suggestions. Thank you! Your videos are great!
That was a beautiful recording! I've only heard the studio recording, so this was quite a treat.
Oh You have discovered my favorite singer Maynard James Keenan....He also sings in Puscifer
You got that right ,a perfect circle live is ethereal!
Would love to see your reaction to Bruce Dickinson 'tears of the Dragon'. It's about him leaving Iron maiden back in the day. Not a vocalist but I love your videos for the insight you give. Keep up the amazing job
I forgot how much I really love this song.
Check out Maynard with Puscifer covering Bohemian Rhapsody.
I’ve always loved this song...
Nice observation
To close your eyes and be totally involved is the entire idea. 🤘🔥🔥
Maybe rawr to Wintersun's Sons of Winter and Stars live rehearsal at some point if you get the chance?
Teloch yeah the wintersun guy is definitely on the level of devin townscend
This was awesome.beth, thanks for your interpretation
Just discovered this channel and love your break down of vocalist techniques. Would love to hear your take on Mike Patton of Mr Bungle and Faith No More fame. He has one of the best voices in the business if you ask me and has one hell of a range.
Would recommend songs like Everything’s Ruined, retrovertigo or midlife crisis, all great examples, but plenty more to find in his back catalogue.
Patton’s vocal range is unparalleled to virtually mankind.
Hey! Check out my reaction to Faith No More - Epic (Mike Patton Live) here: th-cam.com/video/lPCaJOYPnpo/w-d-xo.html
