No cap I never even noticed how much I loved the drum parts in parabol/parabola and vicarious for like 15 years and I listen to the entire discography a few times a week.
Watching these dudes go from being totally new to metal, rock and prog to full blown fans to the point where they be saying shit like time signatures and knowing the names of all the band members is like a proud parent watching they kids succeed 😂😂😂. I'm a life long musician and metal head and it's great to see the transition 😂. Reminds me of my journey early on , rock on my metal friends. 🤘.

I actually took the time to really think about a 5 desert island tool song play list and after much deliberating, it came down to this for me: 4 degrees, Pushit, Reflection, Right in Two and Descending. Wasn't intentionally 1 song from each album, just worked out that way lol.
First time I saw them live I couldn't believe how many parts he played that I thought were Adam on guitar, and how much he carries the grooves is nothing short of incredible. He's right up there with Cliff Burton for my fav bass player ever.
The guitars in 7:13 ; I believe it’s called a volume swell. It’s when a guitarist plays a note at very low guitar volume and then slowly turns the volume knob and increases it. Adam Jones uses it really well as an effect in many Tool songs ; and its sounds super cool. Sounds even better live !!
I wish they would play Wings part 2 but like some other comments, I'm not sure they will do it. Im not sure why, but part 2 always hits me harder than Part1
I'll never forget the first time hearing this song... I was stationed in Japan serving in the Marines and I knew they were about to release a new single. I streamed radio stations based in California hoping to catch the new song when it first came out. I had been a Tool fan since the mid 90's. Ryan basically hit it on the head towards the end. Tool works if you want to really sit down with a great pair of headphones and concentrate solely on the music and really appreciate the technical depth to the song. It also works if you're working or whatever and just want something that will make you nod your head going in the background. There are a lot of bands that make more technical music than Tool. Tool's secret is that they take all those complex elements and make them groove, which is a rare gift.

for seven years i watched my wife slowly succumb to cancer , the last 12 months of her life i was playing this song nearly every day , i found comfort in it , i wanted her to just die so bad ,to be free from her pain and i wanted just peace from it all , the song made me realize just how selfish i was ...
I think the key to Tool sounding like that is that they each get out of each other's way. They compose apart and then bring it all together later. It's a far more collaborative project than having the traditional bandleader-band dichotomy. Freedom always produces the best results, and it's too bad our culture has forgotten what freedom sounds and feels like.
I think people struggle to understand Tool because of 1) The fanbase 2) The myth behind the band and 3) They are complicated which means you need to find a entry point that resonates with you. Now that you guys have hit 10,000 Days, you need to do Wings of Marie and 10,000 Days back to back (they are similar to Parabol and Parabola) and Right in Two.
@@cougarcartel4658 So wrong lmao their technicality peaked on their last record. Their popularity might've peaked at Lateralus but Aenima - Lateralus - 10k days are almost always considered at the same level with Aenima being the sweet baby. FI however is where they're all at their absolute best (which obviously doesn't mean the best songs) but to say it's a snooze fest, you might as well not be into the genre.
@@Audard It's funny how you tell me to stay off the internet when you're the one being offended by someone's different opinion. No wonder you communicate with mirrors.
Culling Voices is the weakest TOOL song, after the first chorus it sounds like the band didn't know what to do next, so they just repeated the song from the pre-chorus.
I absolutely love these guys. It has been so much fun to live Vicariously through them and see them enjoy these songs for the first time. It’s also been a blast to watch them, grow musically and expand their horizons and become legitimate fans of heavy music. I was so pumped when they said they had actually gone to a Tool show.
I saw Tool last year and gonna see them again this year. I'm new to Tool sinds 3-4 years. It's 🔥 front to back. So unique. Keep reacting to these guys. 💪
Jambi, right in two, parabola would be some good listens for you guys too. I think Jambi would definitely be something Ryan absolutely loves tho. You both would love it but I know Ryan is gonna lose his shit lol
great reaction guys... I've grown up listening to tool and I get stoked when others feel like I do when listening to these dudes. Adam was a model maker in films before tool got big, you can see his name in the credits in the original Jurassic Park. He dipped out to go be in a rock band.
Regarding Tool's shifting grooves, I feel that Aenima is perhaps their most instantly likeable album to the Tool newbie as it has progressive music but with more straight forward grooves. It took me longer to really get with Lateralus and 10,000 days I must be honest but the rewards are deeper there
Glad that you guys enjoyed this song so much. One of my favorites of all time from Tool I always understood this song as a criticism to people that look at life vicariously and that think that others should look at things the same way as them. Basically as an example that we should all be better.
I really enjoyed your reaction to this. Glad you got back to Tool. I like counting their time signatures. This one is almost entirely in 5/4, or 10/8 in some places. But it boils down to 5 head bobs per measure instead of the usual 4. Once you know that it doesn't feel weird anymore.
I subscribed when you reacted to Pneuma. Still my favorite reaction on youtube to this day. This did not disappoint either. So much Tool left to discover. I hope you pick either Right in Two, or Jambi next. Y'all kick ass!

Great reaction fellas! Can't go wrong with Tool! You guys should check out Tool's cover of "You Lied" by Peach. Justin was the bassist in the band Peach if you guys didn't know. And its live too!
So, I’ve heard that ToOL is meant to be an experience, just wait until you start listening to their albums in their entirety--from beginning to end--like how they were TRULY meant to be listened to. I swear there is a place for each of their songs, every song was written so carefully to what feels like a flow in their albums. Anyway, this was an amazing reaction, glad y’all have become such fans. Glad to have you aboard. 🤘🏻🔥👁️
I've gotta say, watching the two of you react to this for the first time, takes me back to 2006 when this song was released as a single, from an, as of then, yet unreleased album. Right In Two is also pretty accessible for a longer, more prog Tool song. Rosetta, Wings, and Intension are pretty inaccessible, though.
@@Gnix1996 I've heard ppl say 10K got newer fans into TOOL because of the commercial friendly songs. The 'hits' on 10K have that 4 on the floor, "sabbath type groove" -MJK quote. However, the same can be said about Aenima (Stinkfist) & Laterlaus (Schism, which was a massive commercial success). I really enjoy that you pause for commentary but also let the music play over top while you comment underneath. The mix is set so well that we can hear both clearly. Add to that, your musical observations are quite astute. Subscribed.
I remember the first time I heard this song at release, I got full-body chills for like, 10min after. Simply incredible.
I love it when I see anyone ‘GET’ tool. It validates what I hear 🤘🏻. Ya all have the best reactions
Definitely one of my favorites, my favorite of this album.
for seven years i watched my wife slowly succumb to cancer , the last 12 months of her life i was playing this song nearly every day , i found comfort in it , i wanted her to just die so bad ,to be free from her pain and i wanted just peace from it all , the song made me realize just how selfish i was ...
I BEEN REQUESTED THIS! Finally yall have blessed yall ears with the masterpiece that is Vicarious 🔥🔥
Met you guys and we took a pic at the Tool show. You're the best 🤘
Jambi is also a great song off this album. Not too many people talk about it but its a banger
If pressed for a favorite “JAMBI” would be it. Other than that it would the tool song that I’m currently listening too
I think the key to Tool sounding like that is that they each get out of each other's way. They compose apart and then bring it all together later. It's a far more collaborative project than having the traditional bandleader-band dichotomy. Freedom always produces the best results, and it's too bad our culture has forgotten what freedom sounds and feels like.
I find with Tool, it's like listening to 2 songs into one. The work and craftsmanship they put into their songs , it crazy.
This is their most compact and sophisticated statement. A musical and lyrical masterpiece.
@@cougarcartel4658 Couldn't disagree more. Invincible and Descending are two of the best pieces of music ever created.
@@SN4K3P1T000 You are part of the problem with this fan base. Probably best you stay off the internet and communicate with a mirror.
@@Audard It's funny how you tell me to stay off the internet when you're the one being offended by someone's different opinion.
No wonder you communicate with mirrors.
Right in Two - Maybe the best TOOL song lyrically
Culling Voices - Most underrated TOOL song imo
Culling Voices sucks. Sounds unfinished. Far and Away the frog on fear inoculum
@@ForestDumper666Who hurt you
Culling Voices is the weakest TOOL song, after the first chorus it sounds like the band didn't know what to do next, so they just repeated the song from the pre-chorus.
@@BirdsElopeWithTheSun09 It was you wasn’t it
I absolutely love these guys.
Your commentary is so unique! I enjoy the perspective. Also, I love Vicarious-one of my favorite Tool songs. It slaps so hard.
i love vicarious but its almost too overwhelming
great reaction guys... I've grown up listening to tool and I get stoked when others feel like I do when listening to these dudes. Adam was a model maker in films before tool got big, you can see his name in the credits in the original Jurassic Park. He dipped out to go be in a rock band.
My most listened song ever. Probably listened to it more 500 times, can´t believe you finally did a reaction to it.
Regarding Tool's shifting grooves, I feel that Aenima is perhaps their most instantly likeable album to the Tool newbie as it has progressive music but with more straight forward grooves. It took me longer to really get with Lateralus and 10,000 days I must be honest but the rewards are deeper there
Parabola is their most entry level song imo. It's what got me into them and it's what makes my friends go "oh I get it."
Glad that you guys enjoyed this song so much. One of my favorites of all time from Tool
I always understood this song as a criticism to people that look at life vicariously and that think that others should look at things the same way as them.
I’ve waited for another TOOL review patiently. It was another banger. Got to get back into A Perfect Circle again. You’re sleeping on them again. 😂
Haven't seen you in years!!! Good to see you still discover new TOOL songs. :D
Btw you were always the best. I love your reactions.
Man, laughed so hard at 15:18 when you guys almost paused it but realized how good the climax was gonna be and had to keep listening. Unreal track!
You 2 and The Charismatic Voice are the best reviewers of all time... Thank you for your work
You look to the discography of this band and realizes "how the hell they just can't do wrong?". Absolutely phenomenal band, we're lucky to witness, nuff said
I really love the intro for this video, the clips of you guys commenting on different songs. Really does a good job of introducing the video and showing what you guys are about. Fantastic work, keep it up :D
Great reaction fellas! Can't go wrong with Tool! You guys should check out Tool's cover of "You Lied" by Peach. Justin was the bassist in the band Peach if you guys didn't know. And its live too!
You Lied and No Quarter are amazing covers.
It's like Queen putting out Bohemian Rhapsody on every record! Tool Live is insane! best bands I saw live. Tool, Maiden, Metallica
For this song to be as old as it is and STILL hit this hard.. is bananas!
I loved how you guys recognized when the guitar comes back in the second verse it’s so subtle but at the same time so epic.
lol you've heard that huh?
@@checkle1 Yes, I have 😬
I've gotta say, watching the two of you react to this for the first time, takes me back to 2006 when this song was released as a single, from an, as of then, yet unreleased album. I had been waiting 6 long years, and this song was everything I had been waiting for from my favorite band! It was so awesome, and seeing you react the same way I did so many years ago, is just so great! Thank you!
Greatest band ever. Criminally underrated. Never sold out.
I agree with the first two parts but they did sell out, have you seen the prices on the same recycled merch?
Said I’d NEVER tattoo a band on my body. Last week, that became a lie:)
@@Mxulin yeah definitely agree with the merch aspect. They overprice everything. I guess that’s how all musicians are these days but definitely sucks when it’s your favorite band and you can’t even afford to get a poster without having to pay half the price of your ticket
@papajules7511 or when they re release an album for $500 💀
Top 3 for sure..
Tool is how I found this channel, and the fact that they are just now doing Vicarious is absolutely perfect timing considering I'm about to see them in concert next week. I love this channel and I love Tool. Keep it up guys, y'all are amazing
One could react to their whole discography and it will be awesome. Stll, Lateralus is my most fave among all the Tool faves.
You guys make people really appreciate the band!
10,000 days is their most accessible album by far. Jambi is a must from this album!
I would say the undertow album, is more accessible then 10k. 10k still has a ton of freak out jams & long tracks. TOOL calls 10k their blues album.
@@adamjones7014 eh depends on the person I suppose. 10k Days was more accessible to me and it's what kickstarted my love for Tool. I still rarely listen to Undertow because I'm not really into grunge. But tracks like Vicarious, Jambi, and The Pot are all very accessible.
TOOL always writes a few songs for commercial play on every album not Undertow. idk if I consider Undertow grunge. It's hard rock. TOOL said, when they were trying to 'make it', they chose their heaviest songs for 'Undertow', because that was the sound back then.
Love to see y’all still reacting. Y’all were the first ever reactors that I subscribed to. As Life time member of the Tool Army, I thank you.
This is Tool’s best album to me. I know all of them are breakthroughs but to me, seniority here is through the roof. Not even mentioning Wings for Marie pt 1 and 2 yet.
It's been a minute since I've hit your channel but I'm thrilled to be back checking out what Brothas think of some of these classics after hearing them for the 1st time!
Unsophisticated music pallette causes fair weather music fans to denigrate TOOL. TOOL IS FIRE!
Precisely!
Huge, huge love from Melbourne, Australia, been watching you guys since 2016 - this is video of the year so far.
Imo 10,000 days as a whole is underrated. For me at least it’s my second favorite tool album. This song is fantastic, and the lyrics on this album is top notch.
Agreed. I never understood why people have looked down on it. It's so good.
Agreed. I never understood why people have looked down on it. It's so good.
Argued with my kids one night at dinner about this, I’m a Lateralus guy, but they both love 10000 Days, after they started listing tracks, I was like, they may have a point
@@ericwoods3849 lateralus is just always going to be a classic and it has a special place in my heart (and my favorite overall) but wings for Marie and 10,000 days reaches me like no other song reaches me, and will always have a place in my heart. For that alone it’s my second favorite, but add vicarious, the pot, hooker with a penis, Jambi, I mean come on it’s a classic album.
I’ve been a massive tool fan for a very long time and to hear two black, very intellectual gentlemen sit and talk about this song alone is very, very refreshing! and very lovely to hear. I bless both of you.
Jambi needs to be the next reaction.
Vicarious is not only the peak of Tool songs, it's the peak of all of it has been done in rock music as a whole.
