When looking to buy my next car I was looking at 17(ish) plate Golf GTIs, but despite being a Golf GTI fan I couldn’t get excited about them. And then I spotted an M140i at James Paul in West Sussex and just had to have it. I love the way the straight 6 engine sounds during normal driving and then when you open it up it sounds fabulous. Mine is manual as well and I feel that adds to the driving fun and as I work from home i don’t need an automatic for commuting. The later engine is also slightly better on fuel and I can easily get low 30mpg locally and 40+ mpg on a long run if I’m sensible. I also love the way it doesn’t shout about what it is as it’s quite subtle unlike some of the competition!

I drove this exact car except it had black seats from 2013 to 2016. Great car!! Well summed up mate!

Owned one for approx 18 months now, my 6th BMW, also the ZF 8 speed, i have in my past also owned Porsches, Mercs, Audi etc, now this car is a complete animal, as much fun as anything i ever drove the pre LCI also looks brilliantly understated, which i love a true stealth motor, i smile the moment it starts, been beaten by nothing, a total Jeckyl and Hyde, put in ECO mode you can only drive like your nan, as for extras I always buy peasant spec as it is the cars that will make us happy not the extras, certainly media ones they date a car quicker than one without.

Interesting point on the peasant spec, never though of it that way, I see your point but I always like to have all the bells and whistles even if I don’t always all of them

Ill take heated seats, HK stereo upgrades ,wouldn’t stop me buying without but wouldn’t pay more , imo the media aspects like Sat Nav dates so quick and look like a PS2 screen in a few years to what we use at home , Juno in a 10 year old M cat you’ll see what I mean better with none , be the same for all cats as they get older, surely .Best sat nav iPhone google I think 🤷🏻‍♂️

I definitely agree on navigation, after it’s a year or two old it’s only good for giving you a vague idea. Google maps is far superior as it updated all the time. Apple play and android auto are rather good as you can use the maps from your phone displayed on the screen.

I think you can get better spec’d m135i than the one you drove for the same amount of money .. pronav, black panel dash , adaptive suspension etc

Wow, really?! I'm deciding if I should get this or a Carrera 996 C2. Has yours been reliable? Expensive to maintain?

The M135i is a brillaint car, but the M140i is better again. Unless budget is a consideration the m140i is the better choice every time, it just moves the game further on.

Absolute garbage. The 135 is in a different league compared to the 140. The difference between the engines are comparing chalk with cheese!
