    Great video, that was so helpful and soooo many questions answered. Back in 2017 I had my first m135i and I was in love with it! From the sound to the performance to….everything! Then couple of things needed replacing two years later and in a rush I swapped for m140i cause wasn’t sure if that was maybe the start of the big bills coming up( also the salesman at the time kept praising the b58). As soon as I drove away from the dealership I was nearly in tears cause I regret it straight away. You had to get a sweet spot with the m140i to get that kick back feeling whereas the m135i responded no matter what when or where guns blazing! I suppose back then most that start with the m135i always want the next upgrade which was the m140i, but to me felt like going from a stallion to a clumsy donkey. It’s still probably a great car for most people but the sound was awful, it is more progressive but I prefer the aggression of the m135i. Got rid of it and on the hunt now in the last 6 months to find my perfect second m135i ( not the new joke of a m135i AWD😂😂)

    Manual is about being engaging, not about being faster. And I understand your point about resell value. But as they get older the manual is going to be more sought-after. Especially since, as you said, most people went for an auto to begin with.

    Super informative video. I have it with the manual- because I love the engagement, doing heel/toe/ throttle blips and the feeling of absolute control. Manual all the way!!

    I've had my M135i lci for 5 years now still love it , it's manual now running 440whp (at the wheels) you must let them warm up do regular oil changes , bin the suspension, I've fitted quaife LSD amongst a lot of other bits including pureturbos stage2 and definitely baffled sump , better sound than B58 , average mpg 25 . Fitted an AEM performance guage to monitor oil temperature etc.

    • @BMWDoctor
      @BMWDoctor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree ! That’s something I plan to get mine to LSD is next on my lift aswell as the baffles in the sump as it’s something I need the way I drive this car 😂 but it’s much much better then B58 and the sound is much better all together. I agree M135i all the way.

    Manual or Auto is personal choice. I respect your opinion but Manual is the one for me. I drove 2 autos before choosing my M140i manual. Manual is simply more engaging and i found auto boring after 20 minutes of driving.

      I was surprised when I arrived in the UK and discovered that you can still find manual cars made after 2012. Before that, I thought no car manufacturers were producing manual cars after 2012.

    Thanks for this video. I just bought M135i manual a month ago and loving it. I was a bit worried about the reliability, but this video proves I did the right thing to buy it :) And yeah, the fuel economy is not that great, but the fun I have driving this car is worth it :) Great car, much better in almost every way than my former E46 325i

  • @DjNikGnashers

    If I could afford 2 (or more) cars, one would definitely be a manual for the driver experience it's more engaging.
    As I can only afford one car, I went for the auto as it's much better as a daily driver.
    My M140i is everything I need in a one-car family.
    Just a simple 200 cell Wagner cat has allowed it to be tuned to 455bhp/634nm, and the xHP3 software for the ZF8 makes it change like a DCT.
    It would be very easy to get it to 650+ bhp but as a daily driver, I'm happy at it's current power level, I feel it is very reliable, and actually pretty good on fuel if I want to drive slowly (42mpg on a run).
    I think the M135i sounds slightly better, but the B58 is a better engine.

  • @covingtonrace1

    My most reliable car was a BMW 325tds from 98. Tuning box running about 180/190bhp, beat the crap out of it daily, filled with old vegetable oil, drifting roundabouts, redline, handbrake turns etc...... Did no mainstream ever. Carrying tools and plasterboard etc...... Sold it with 200k on the clock to a mate, he tuned it more to 220bhp and made it 220k miles, before nose diving into a hedge. Amazing beast.

    I got a manual one of these just over a year ago, and although the zf auto box is probably better for track use, i find the manual just fine for my use. And i completely agree with engine reliability, had a warning light come up so i took it to bmw, they wanted me to put down 4 grand on repairs, i told them to do one, took the car to a specialist just down my road and talked me through what could be the issue, and it turned out to be nothing more than a dirty sensor, so took the sensor out, cleaned it and done, no issues in a year and been a wonder to own and drive

    • @BMWDoctor
      @BMWDoctor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Manuals are cheap to buy, Autos are not ! That’s why so many people end up buying these because manual is the cheaper version. And people will do anything just to own one, I have driven both and even BMW themselves will tell you auto is the way forward for anyone much better car in auto that ZF8 is exceptional on this engine.
      I take it you have small screen nav ? As ones with all that manual and small screen are very very cheap I mean I see manuals around that nobody will even buy as soon as auto comes up it’s gone !
      Why is that ? Well because when you remap this engine you can also remap the gearbox you can’t do that on a manual so it’s useless. And that ZF8 works wonders with a map 😍 sorry I just don’t find manual useful and I must be honest, my Americans would appreciate that either as they like me having autos. I mean if I was purely pushing myself out for the uk then yeah manual is perfect but I have a American based channel, which I don’t think they would agree me having a manual. Besides that, I love my autos I hate manual it’s useless for day to day driving and stop start city traffic.
      As for engine reliability standpoint, let me assure you these N55 m performance engines are solid ! They are not like the last N55 generation fitted in the E60 and E90 BMW revised this whole engine are taking it off the market for 2 years before putting it into the F series and changed EVERYTHING Inside including the internals. If you don’t know the engines have the S55 internals :)

    • @BMWDoctor
      @BMWDoctor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't agree ! I can tell you right now from someone that knows the car market very very well, The manual is cheaper and is NOT desirable at all. No matter where you look where you go who you ask everyone will tell you the ZF8 is the only way, That gearbox with the N55 is the perfect combination. Most who will say the manual is better is because manual is much much cheaper then auto and I don't mean £1K Cheaper, I mean like £3-4K Cheaper. Just have a look around and see how many people buy the autos immediately and the manuals sit there for many many many months without getting touched.

    • @AndyfromSurrey
      @AndyfromSurrey 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BMWDoctor I bought it because I loved it. I don’t commute or live in a city so simply don’t need an automatic. I also don’t care if the auto is quicker and has launch control, the manual M140i is still stupidly quick. As for value, I bought it for less than an auto and so expect it to always be worth less when I come to sell it. However, they sold around 1,000 manual & 10,000 autos, so it will be rarer. And BMW seem to not be offering manual option either now. So in the future if you want a performance BMW with a 6 pot engine & manual your options will be limited. But as I said, I’m not in for the money, I simply love the car.

    • @BMWDoctor
      @BMWDoctor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree ! And if we was in the USA, I would say it would be worth a fortune. But as the Uk is so overpopulated with manuals in every single manafacturer I find it very very hard to believe that will go up in value, and your right I don’t live in a city I live in the country on all the A roads all national speed limit, but I like auto and prefer auto over manual any day of the week and I encourage everybody to buy auto. In USA they LOVE manual as it’s rare incredibly rare, where here in the Uk 90% of cars are a manual. I prefer paddle shift and auto that’s the way it should have been going along time ago, and I always said that there is no need for manual anymore who the hell wants to be changing in and out of gears and have a clutch ? Paddle shift is way much quicker more easier. I don’t know manual isn’t for me I owned too many manual cars from 13 years old that I got to hate it. Had many BMWs in manual and it’s just not for me, if I’m honest I think it’s a English thing, as I’m not English so I don’t understand all the hype about manual I love automatic. Even tho I can drive both just not for me. But honestly I think “Mostly” it’s a British thing having manual as it’s only British people who want manual gearboxes. Hope you don’t take that the wrong way

    • @AndyfromSurrey
      @AndyfromSurrey 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BMWDoctor but 90% of M140is are automatic in the UK. So the 6 pot BMW market is not exactly overpopulated with manuals.
      I was looking to purchase an automatic but came across my manual car locally, test drove it simply decided I’m not ready for an automatic yet as I’m only 52 😂. We will all be forced into automatic or electric cars without a gearbox all to soon so I think I’m lucky to have a manual 6 pot performance BMW and hope to have it for many many years 😎

    • @BMWDoctor
      @BMWDoctor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is funny how it’s all changed 😂 before it would be people in there 40-50s wanting auto, now it’s the opposite it’s people 18-30 wanting autos and people older wanting manuals. I just think it’s the people I mix with and stuff and what is popular in the craze and manual just isn’t desireable I mean I have a lot of friends and every single one of there cars is auto, and even when they ask me I tell them do not get a manual doesn’t make any sense not in this day and age. 🤷‍♂️ it’s just me f**k knows why I like auto so much 😂

    18:40 The reason it's not in the USA is simply because these types of cars are not liked there....
    In europe we have so many small hatchbacks because fuel is expensive so they've become popular. Not in the US. It's definitely not because they can't handle 300hp... That's also not much power these days anyway.
    Plus they have the m235i which is the exact same car and also had the previous 135i because it's a coupe.
    Most are worse drivers there yes, but these people don't really buy performance cars, just crossovers so that's irrelevant.
