    If you're looking to take your photo editing skills to the next level, then you won't want to miss this video. In it, I'll be sharing my experiences with Sean Bagshaw's Luminosity Mask Master Class and demonstrating how I've applied his techniques to two images by Dave Karp. The first image presented a challenge with its dark foreground, but Sean's method enabled me to make adjustments to both the sky and foreground in the RAW file. For the second image, I'll be showcasing how to "sculpt light" using a levels adjustment and a luminosity mask. This will allow me to bring out texture in a really cool old willow tree that looks like an old man's face. Dave Karp calls this image "Old Man Willow".

    Wonderful lesson Dave. Pretty much everything I know about processing came from Tony, Sean, and you. What a dream team! You and Sean often do things differently and that's really helped broaden my skills with photoshop and TK8. Thanks for the iCloud tip. I sometimes have to search a lot to find Sean's or your video to review. Thanks for all that you do..

    A full edit would be appreciated. However, this short to the point edit of this photo, focusing on one technique was very very helpful, in that sometimes(well OK often for me) a particular technique can get lost in the full edit when it comes time for me to use it. I do try to make my own notes (on your notes), but there are getting to be quite a lot of them, so a specific technique can be hard to find. And speaking of notes, it dawned on me that I should download the notes prior to watching the video so I can make my notes while watching the video. I did that and it made the notes even more useful. Thanks Dave, you are a gifted teacher.

    Hi David,I had been doing what you did with the dl first image for a long time ( though I didn't use the " masking the mask technique), but that was before you taught me how to do so many other things with the TK panel, thank you so much for that 😊 . And I think for the second image, your balancing the contrast with the color wheel works just as well,if not better ( you can even play around with colors) ... 🙏

    Hi Dave, I do love and look forward to TK Fridays and trying to anticipate how you are going to accomplish your goals. For the second image, might it have been easier to use the paint contrast on the tree and then protect the lights and darks with a midtones 3? I would love to see you use those tools more with masks (add Color and paint contrast). Keep up the great videos and thanks for all your efforts!

    Thanks for the reminder about Sean's course, I must rewatch it. Looking at the file dates I suspect that he produced the course before the Photoshop update that introduced one-click sky selection. I wonder if he would still protect the sky using luminosity masks now that sky selection, and inverting to select foreground, can be done automatically? No need to mask the mask, just paint through the foreground selection onto the foreground version of the image? Same principle of double adjustment of a raw file but simpler masking.

    Hi Dave. Again a great tutorial. I have used Tk7 and now Tk8 for a while and your tutorials are really helpful. I hope I can explain my question correctly. There are numerous ways to use the Tk8 panel using luminosity masks etc. As there are so many how do we decide which is the best method to use for example editing a landscape image. I am sure that there is one method for a particular image that would give the best results. So can you give any advice on this or is it just a case of using what we feel is best for our own individual ideas. Hope you can help Dave.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly

      Thanks Brian. There are so many different ways of doing the same thing in Photoshop. I try to show the various ways of working with the TK8 Plugin For Photoshop on my TK Friday tutorials. It is hard to say that one way is better over another, it basically comes down to personal preference.

    Hi Dave, a very good tutorial as every Friday, a good solution to record photos under shows, I would like to see the editing of the image, A question, at 4:50 you open camera raw and you use the profil: Adobe neutral , why not have using a linear profile? Thank you for your answer.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I originally started with a linear profile but changed my mind. The reason is because I have included the image in my Drop Box for viewers to download. The camera used was a Canon 5D Mark III and everyone wouldn't have that profile. Tony suggested I use Adobe Neutral because it was the closest to a Linear Profile. I should have mentioned that in the video but it just slipped my mind. Thanks for this question.

    Hi Dave, Great video. Two questions. I am new to using a pen pad; I noticed that you changed the opacity of the pen from the opacity slider on the top menu and not with pen pressure. Is that correct? Second -- I have watched all your videos; this is the first time you have used flow instead of opacity. Is there a reason for this? You continue to delight me with new methods and approaches to enhance a photograph. You are Number 1.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Gary. I did use the opacity from the slider, I usually just use shortcuts like 1 for 10%, 0 for 100% etc. I haven’t used pen pressure that much, I never got used to it. The reason I am using flow is because that is what Sean was using in his tutorial so I thought I would work with it. Flow does take some getting used to. I find for me I need to keep it really low. I will have to experiment more with pen pressure.
