    As always, you lift the spirit of an amateur like me by showing you how simple and easy it is to edit a photo into such a beautiful final image. As for the notes, I will not say anything because I do not know English and it would take me too long to translate them into my native language. As always, I warmly greet this beautiful Polish autumn from the city of "Fortress Przemyśl" and thank you for how much needed tutorials.

    Great video, Dave! I like Properties above the Multi-Mask panel, with Combo panel underneath. I also keep the CX panel open but leave it on the TK Actions, with My Actions underneath it. This double panel on right, along with Layers over History & Channels on the left side, gives me a dashboard, which as an intermediate PS user makes a lot of sense to me. I frankly couldn't run Photoshop without it! I'm also printing out your notes from this video to put next to my TK8 button cheat sheet (from Tony's instructions file). All your steps here are just what I need as a reminder. Thanks!

    On the segment of adding a little contrast twhen lightening an aerea, you place two points to create a small S-curve. It is easier to use the top preset and select Linear Contrast or one of the other options.

    As soon as I am finished writing this I am going to try the Combo panel and Properties panel as shown in your video. Have been using the CX panel, but also find the popping out of the Properties panel a bit of a distraction. Have been using the Paint Contrast action for dodging and burning.......but voilá another hidden gem......using the eraser tool to ease back on a dodge or burn.....who knew. Am now printing out the PDF files cuz is easier to follow on screen with a printed cop. "So there you go" another great TK FridaY.😁

    I like it!!! I’ve said it before, but just when you think it can’t get any better Dave further improves the quality of the notes even more, as well as the overall presentation. Entertaining, educational and fun ! I much prefer the Cx panel as it leaves me more Canvas space, the workspace seems a bit busy with the Combo Panel, but it’s nice to have the option. Thanks Dave! Thanks for reinforcing that the only way to correct paint with contrast is with the eraser brush, I forgot that and that you can adjust your eraser brushes opacity.
    P.S. And I really like how Tony Kuyper’s Good Light Journal dovetails into and reinforces days TK Friday this week.

    Dave, I use the CX panel, as it takes up less space (as I work mainly on my MacBook Pro 14). As usual, love TK Friday - I work along and try my own edits 1st (one by one) before watching yours to see if I can predict what you will do & how you do it. (as a retired Children's Dentist & Orthodontist), I always believed in "see one, do one teach one" philosophy). I especially love the Paint Contrast. I always learn watching your edits & instruction. Thanks so much!

    Hey Dave, you're definitely the Bob Ross of TK8 Fridays. Wonderful edit as always, and to answer your question. I prefer using the CX panel (Slimmer one) because of muscle memory. I hover exactly where I need to, and I just prefer the space saving feature. I tried to mix it around, but I have to re-adjust my brain again, so I leave it as the CX version. Thanks again for another wonderful TK8 Friday.

  • @Mousyfox
    @Mousyfox ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Dave, You asked about the panels Cx or Combo? I always use the Cx panel due to using a 15" MacBook Pro, so real estate is limited. I prefer to try to work without zooming in if possible so the more real estate I have the better. Thanks for another great video. Every experience makes the TK8 panels more familiar and so easier to use when I'm not relying on your videos to follow along with. The pdf sheets are brilliant for going back over things a second time to make sure I didn't overlook something, so keep 'em coming. We get better by doing, and even better still by re-doing. Cheers, until next week.

    Another great edit Dave! I didn't think I would like the Combo TK8 - but I like how you have the properties on top. It always bugs me that it pops out. I will give it a try. I do use Screen a lot to lighten the entire image, but I notice that you use the Screen and Multiply a lot when editing objects. Is there a benefit for using it over dodging and burning - Like how you used Screen on the front rocks only?

  • @AlexFeldstein
    @AlexFeldstein ปีที่แล้ว

    Very good as usual. I use both Combo & Cx in a second screen.Combo for the normal functions, Multi-Mask below, and Cx set to Actions-Color-Blend. Second screen makes everything so much easier. Note I also keep there Layers/Properties/My Actions/Channels/Histogram all open and visible all the time.

    A great video as usual Dave. One thing that puzzles me is the use of a curves layer then a mask before adding the colour grade tool. You never seem to touch the curves adjustment so why is it needed? I'm obviously missing something!

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  ปีที่แล้ว

      When I lighten or darken using a Screen or Multiply Blend Mode the curves adjustment layer is only used for the Blend Mode. There is no need to adjust the curve unless I want to add a slight S Curve to bring back contrast when I lighten darker tones. I add a Black Mask so I don't see the Lightening effect before I make the Painted on Adjustment. If there was a White Mask you would see the entire image go dark or light depending on which blend mode you are using. I prefer not to see that change before I paint on my adjustment. Watch the video again and you will see that I do explain that.

    • @vycc980
      @vycc980 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly thanks for the reply Dave. I just watched your foggy lake scene edit too, very nice, and I think that I see it now. The curves layer is just there to allow the blend mode to work. That's probably a bit simplistic but I think it has clicked into place.
      Great tutorials, keep 'em coming!

    Dave you are doing a very difficult job trying to teach the TK tools thank you for trying. Personally I find the speed of your work is too fast for me and there are many steps missing from the pdf notes compared to your actual video for those to be effective. Should You not be careful to add too much contrast in the background ?
    This would result in losing depth in the image.

  • @malencid
    @malencid ปีที่แล้ว

    Dave,
    I notice that you no longer “mask for success” by saving out sections eg sky, foreground, mountains etc. like was done in some of your earlier videos and the editing these sections. It would be interesting for you to go back and redo your old photo now using your new technique. I find myself using too many stamped layers (ctrl,shift, alt,e) and I can’t then go back to an earlier edit like you are able with your new system. A video describing the changes you’ve done could be helpful.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  ปีที่แล้ว

      Dean I still do that. I didn't know I would need to adjust the sky until the end and that is the reason I didn't do it. I still do the masking for success, however, each image is different. I use It when it calls for it.
