Can we SAVE this beauty or will it be a Total Loss ..... ? This one is a bit of a mess compared to this Regal 2022 Center Console that completely sank th-cam.com/video/VATiOKZL4fM/w-d-xo.html
I’ve hauled a neel and was not at all impressed with the structure of the hull. This would be a 400k refurb I’d imagine!! a structure engineer would probably never approve fixing this mess

I have not been on a Neel, but the Ruby Rose tour makes a statement, Gone with the Wynn's delivery of a Neel bought and maintained with what appeared to be a completely open checkbook, this and a few other things on the web definitely says Neel is not for me.
Like anything it’s all in what someone likes … Matt’s rule is only buy American if you live in the USA cause trying to get parts out of country is a challenge.
Is that the Neel 51? That’s my dream boat. I’ll take it. You can stick it in my yard. It’ll make a good little apartment house lol. I am sure somebody lives on inland it would make a good home on land cut through all the red tape.
@@WillFixThat if it’s broken, why fix it stick it on somebody’s land will make a great land sail hydro generator and just add rain 🌧️ for that fresh water maker collector or Tom Bodett new slogan a clean fresh room, and will leave the sails on for you.
I spent a night on my in-laws monohull that was aground. It was the worst night I ever spent. Much worse that being at sea in a gale with 50 knot winds and 15 foot seas.
If you sail long enough you will run into something. I did it in San diego and ran aground on a sand bad. It happens so fast. I feel for the owner and family. It just takes a second in dangerous waters to run aground.
@@WillFixThat Marco island is a common anchorage before leaving for the keys in morning daylight. This is a million-dollar trimaran if you're not qualified or confident to sail hire a professional captain there are plenty in Florida. This raises insurance rates for everyone.
@@EdwardTeach-k6d Definitely hire a captain that's familiar with the route you are taking! Much cheaper and a heck of a lot less stress. Agree with you completely!
So how much was it to bring it ashore on the barge and put it on the stands? At least share that much. Looks like under $200k in fiberglass repairs on the outside to me.
Supposed to be unsinkable with 6 or 8 dry bays they say! Guess this will be a learning lesson for Neel engineers and Neel owners. underpowered in the high winds.. a very sad event for the owner..
Well, mono hull versus trimaran, never underestimate how wide that boat is, and how sluggish she is when maneuvering. If you're not sure stay away from cramped channels.
It looks as though the boat hit the outside reef. Historically, homes built in Key West had a lookout tower to alert them of boats hitting the reef 4 to 5 miles from mainland. This was common prior to maps and Garmin type products. Someone was not paying attention in this instance. I have seen several other million dollars boats on Stock Island who have made the same critical mistake.
This one hit the jetty and got stuck for like 12 hrs! Both the jetty and reef areas do a lot of damage! People make this mistake from time to time in our waters!
Doable. Big job - hull cores to be dried, re-templated and rebuilt, elecs replaced, likely engine as well (if it went under), prop replaced, interior re-finished THEN need to check the rig, etc. A solid 2-3 years of work for the right person but certainly less than the million dollar asking price.
@@WillFixThat I’d be surprised if it needed one. Trimarans - esp Neels with solid bridgedecks - are very strong vessels and the damage to this one is via water intrusion, rather than a hurricane (for example) where the risk of flipping is huge. Of course a prospective buyer should have the whole boat checked first by a multihull surveyor as bashing against a jetty overnight won’t have done the boat many favours. In saying all that, could be a very interesting project. Any thoughts where the insurer might advertise the wreck once they’ve completed their paperwork?
@@PN_48 no favors for that overnight ride! It's ugly we'll show more in a few weeks. We have no idea about the status of the vessel our job is complete.
Dauntless bought a Leopard 50 with about 30% of both hulls below the waterline smashed and rebuilt it. Get that engine emptied out and fill it to the top with diesel asap the rest is just big fiberglass repairs. She could be good in as little as 3 months.
@@jackdbur For sure - I’m thinking 2-3 years for someone who’s rebuilding in their spare time. Put a crew on it and they’ll knock it out quick smart. The interior will be a bit of a pain but a sparky could be rewiring while the GRP work is going on. The rest of the interior replacement can then be done in-water.
Assuming the structure that holds the hulls together is still solid, I think it will be repaired, probably not in the US, but I think it will float again.
@@WillFixThat yeah was going to say shes a write off, its not that its not repairable, just the money vs having a not quite as good boat at the end. Also the fact that its a Neel, they are very hit and miss on their quality. It could end up as a long term project for some one
You must be referring to the cost to haul it out and get it off the rocks. The rescue people were there in another boat for 12 hours so he wasn't completely alone just waiting for the tide to come in. A barge and crane had to be used to get it on land.

$3k to unload and set.
