    We got caught out between cherbourg and Brighton in a f9 wind over tide. The way those waves built up so steep and short, like a two story house as we viewed them from the trough. We got knocked right over on our stbd beams right over. 90 degrees and we were looking down into the green depths through the pilot house window. It was night then.
    We basically spent 18hours getting slapped on our ears, one to the other. Moral: if it says Plus de Vent in cherbourg just wait it out. "I need to be back for work" just isn't worth the risk.
    I quite liked it. But it was stupid. Brighton looked like the maw of hell so we were directed to Newhaven. Good call.

    • @jamesaron1967
      @jamesaron1967 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, there's only one Neel 50 apparently, and you're looking at it So, no one outside this channel ever reviewed this boat. The Neel 51, which is the production model unlike this prototype, is what most people are familiar with. It's a completely different yacht. About the only thing they have in common is they're both made by Neel and are trimarans. That said, you can expect similar handling and performance from all the Neel line of yachts. I'm eagerly awaiting a review of the new Neel 52..

    Cool video. The old rule; wind doesn't brake boats, waves do. A lot of sailors underestimate the wave conditions after a big low, and think they have an easy ride on the tail end. Sometimes it is better to just park and wait it out, and get ahead at the next system. That requires not being on a shedule.

    • @sailoceans
      @sailoceans  ปีที่แล้ว

  • @goetzfrank4090

    I have been in conditions like this twice. Once off the Columbia coast on the way to Panama (40kts for two days straight) and once on the way to New Zealand (40 kts gusting 50kts for a day or so). Enjoyable memories after the fact :) ….. Agree that photos or videos don’t do it justice. I have done it in a 30 foot heavy steel boat. It would be interesting to experience it on a multihull. I felt quite safe because my boat was built like a tank but I could not outsail anything. If you can sail away with 18 kts from a gale then 40 kts only feels like 22kts…..

    • @sailoceans

    In such rough sea is a Trimaran safer than a catamaran?

    • @sailoceans
      @sailoceans  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      At that point I would say it depends on the operator and the choice of course, sails, etc. Both give you the speed to position yourself in relation to the system in such way as to end up on broad reach or quartering tailwind. It is the best, stable, safe, and reasonably comfortable point of sail even in 50+ knots winds as we have experienced few times. If you were to try to sail into such winds it would be a death wish with such boat. Having said all that I like the added stability/beam of the tri vs. cat.
      Thanks for a good question.
      Cheers. B

    E outra nao precisa ficar com medo do Lula e nem do Putin , porque voces gostam é de dinheiro , e dinheiro voces vao ter. Entao prepara , porque vai beijar os pés do Lula , é isso que vai acontecer . Voces vão beijar o pé do Lula , olha que loucura , presta atenção . Isso vai acontecer de verdade . Pra vcs verem que a única coisa que eles querem é dinheiro , então nós vamos resolver o problema de voces. Eu to com a parte mais dificil que é trazer o dinheiro , entao deixa o pai trabalhar que em pouco tempo a firma é nossa

    Much ado about nothing. This is ridiculously over-dramatized, but good for fooling people who have never been to sea.

      50 knot winds and corresponding waves amount to less than 1% of statistical conditions in this general area/season. We are delighted to meet you as it is very hard to encounter tougher conditions not to mention sail into them consciously and controlably. Needless to say, I am super curious about your experiences that put 50 knots into category of "nothing" for you. Please do share. Cheers. B
